We stopped in to pick up some beers to go while visiting family in the area. Great selection of local beers both tap and a huge variety of beers to-go, both local and some beers from farther away (spotted some Lakefront Brewing from our old stomping grounds in Wisconsin!). The lady working was incredibly kind and helpful, and we had a nice chat with her while making our selections. This place is definitely our new go-to for beers to-go when we're visiting our family in Brevard. Hopefully next time we'll have more time and stay to enjoy a beer there in the taproom or on their patio. read more

We always visit the Canteen when we are in town. Great beer selection and a nice little bubbly rose in the cooler. The service is always friendly, and the music is great... last time we were there it was a Latin Jazz band! read more

Truly the nicest people on the planet! I went in after a very cold Dupont ride and asked if they had some hot cider. The owner/manager/beer expert gave me a hot cup of Chai tea. Free! And then I asked if they had anything to eat. He led me to the end of the bar where I served myself a bowl of chili and rice. Same price as the chai! This was in December. We also love to sit outside by the creek during the summer for pizza and music. A true treasure in Cedar Mountain! And... Seriously environmentally responsible! No BS. Reusable forks and plates, no plastic bags... True citizens of the planet!! read more

I LOVE THE CANTEEN!! The BEST taproom in the Cedar Mountain, NC area! Right on the Little River with outside seating it's the place to hang every Spring, Summer, and Fall!!! They have great beers on tap, and an extensive bottle and can collection of both local and national beers! You'll thoroughly enjoy the Canteen!! They serve in a plastic cup, but you can buy one of their pint glasses for $10 (includes a beer, $6 for just the glass), or bring your own pint glass. What a lovely hangout. We really liked the simplicity and warmth from this place. A very good beer selection, great atmosphere for little ones and those not so little, and very friendly barkeeps. In fact, there was a 7 year old's birthday celebration happening outside, while mountain bikers sipped brews inside. We wished we lived in the area to make it a regular haunt, but we'll be stopping by any time we go through. Wonderful place! Very nice people, killer local craft beer selection and great outdoor seating area. My wife and I had just got a beer after mnt biking in DuPont and were going outside to sit down and another couple who were leaving told us we could take plastic chair into the nearby creek to sit in! We plopped our chairs on the sandy bottom and dipped our feet in 6 inches of crystal clear, fast running water! read more

This is a most lovely beer garden, tucked away at the entrance to Dupont Forest, in Cedar Mountain. What a unique treasure! It makes me feel like I am in Bavaria, kind of..The beers on tap are top notch, many getting 5 stars on beer listings. I've been twice now, once with my wife and daughter and more recently with a friend. My daughter hates beer but they have good cider, and white wine. They have a great outdoor area on the banks of a stream, perfect for sitting outside and sipping and talking.. My only suggestions for making it better would be to have more food options. (You can order food during the day from a nearby restaurant and have it brought over, but the restaurant is not open in the evenings.) The other suggestion is to serve the beer in glass, rather than plastic. I know I am a beer snob, but it just tastes better that way. This is a great addition to Cedar Mountain, and a perfect place to visit after a hike or bike in Dupont Forest. read more
