There are some broken stones and I don't like that the stones that are flat to the ground get covered over with cut grass and leaves. I'm afraid that they might disappear entirely. There are lots of roads through the cemetery and places where you can stop and walk. It's really beautiful with all of the old trees. I only go in here to take pictures to put online for people doing the genealogical research. I love Cemeteries and this is a really nice one.

A place to…read morerest The Greenwood Cemetery was established in 1858, which means it is an old graveyard but certainly not a really ancient cemetery by New England standards. Many of the graves do date back well over a hundred years but the cemetery is still accepting new arrivals. A very nice combination of extremely dated and worn graves and monuments combined with nice new and shiny ones. Many of the headstones are very cool and unique. Some huge obelisks and tombs right next to very simple crosses that are now impossible to read. All kinds of very personal and distinctive ways of remembering people now gone from this world. A very peaceful place that is quiet, scenic and at the same time historical. A relaxing place to visit a loved one now departed or to just wander around the many old graves and wonder about the people now at rest.

Most of the grave stones are dated in the 17 and 1800's it's truly a wonderful place to take your time and read some of the stones. The Bristol Family's from Dewolfs and wardwells. I'm sure it would be a great learning experience to tour with a guide to find out about the history . There is also a beautiful view at sunset overlooks the bay in the winter where I have experienced amazing colors as the sun sets. It's definitely a trip to take.

Hidden gem alert!…read more Amazing stone structures greet you as you enter this stunning cemetery, but that is just the tip of the iceberg. I happened upon Juniper Hill while taking a brisk walk at lunch. I'm so glad I did! It's obvious that the caretakers love the property as every tree and stone is well cared for. Some of the tree species I have never seen before. Coming around the last bend, there are amazing views of the entire downtown area of Bristol. The sunsets must be amazing! I found out later that the caretaker offers historical tours, botanical tours and a special Halloween tour once annually! I will definitely be back for that!

Gravestones ponds and…read morequartz The Spring Vine Cemetery is a fairly large graveyard containing about 2,000 graves that was built in about 1850. Not really old, but old enough to be interesting since it contains a wide variety of different memorials. One of the most fascinating thing about the cemetery is the massive chunk of rose quartz that is located in the graveyard. Must weigh several tons and is almost certainly not indigenous to the cemetery, which means someone took a whole lot of effort to bring the huge stone here. There is no inscription on the stone so exactly when it was brought to the graveyard will remain unknown. The cemetery also has a nice little pond on the west side and some fairly large and interesting gravestones. No obelisks because they weren't quite in style yet but there are some pretty massive gravestones. A pleasant cemetery for a walk that is actually close to several other old graveyards. Flat ground and nice old trees makes it a cool place to spend a bit of time, if for nothing else just to check out the fabulous piece of quartz.

Mayflower and mayor…read more The Ancient Little Neck Cemetery is indeed ancient. It was established in 1655 and the oldest recorded grave is John Brown, the guy that actually purchased the land that the graveyard is on from the native Wampanoag tribe. The spooky old graveyard has lots of very old graves, memorials and plaques and if you take a look at the top of the old flagpole you will notice that it has a carved skull on top. A whole lot of famous colonial New England folks are buried here, including Elizabeth Tilley Howland who came over on the Mayflower and died in 1667 and Captain Thomas Willett, who became the first English mayor of New York. The ancient graveyard is an absolutely fascinating place filled with plaques and memorials about shipwrecks, wars and disasters. It looks a bit worn in places and could probably use a bit of TLC but then the scruffy look just adds to the spooky and weird ambiance. One of the coolest and historic colonial graveyards in New England. Over 1,000 graves here from 1622 up till 1993 and of course all kinds of hauntings and bizarre things have been seen in the area. An amazing and historic place to spend some time with the people of the past.

I tried to find out who owned it and finally got a hold of a gentleman who claimed to be a commisioner several years ago that told me that the Chinese bought it and that it was only mowed twice a year! Then I was looking at some statistics that werent very promising that there were sources that said remains from plots had been flung over a wall so they could bury someone else in the plot! My heart sank thinking that my grandparents couldve been flung! I havent been back to the cemetery in awhile as I live in a different state now but I am interested to see what can be done about the state of the plots and headstones. I understand that it is a historical place and that it is ancient. However there is no excuse for it to have been let go like it has been. I wanted to buy plots if there were any available so that I could be near my grandparents but I doubt there are any left. Saint Ann's Cemetery is such a beautiful place. They keep it very clean and they have very nice…read moreburials. They keep the grounds very clean here , and they don't just throw your precious decorations out immediately they allow your decorations to your loved ones to stay for a little bit. It's a little hard to navigate on your own for the first time , but if you go to the main office they will help you out give you a map or guide you. The chapels are beautiful ! I attended a burial here and it was very beautiful , they made a sad moment into something understanding and accepting. The family who runs this are very nice. The stones are very pretty and the upkeep makes me very happy. Cemetery's that are well kept are hard to find, but this one is one of them. There's a lot of water surrounding , if you do want to stay around and walk around ( I have numerous family members here. ) There's a church directly next to this site as well with its own lot, if you want to attend church.

This is not a creepy horror-movie cemetery, no, this is the quiet contemplative kind, where it's socially acceptable to talk to yourself and the ones pushing daisies from below. The staff seem to take good care of the grounds, keeping the grass trim and occasionally planting those tiny flags on holidays. There's a golf course next door... I wonder if the old retired golfers look over here and feel differently than I do...

It was the Jewish organization established in 1906 by Chesed Shel Emes. It is also known as Rhode Island Historical Cemetery Warwick #11. As I said, crowded but there is enough room to drive through. Most of the roadways are smooth though there is only enough space for one vehicle in each direction. The cemetery is the final resting place for jazz musician Lew Sherwood (1903-1971). was the featured vocalist with Eddy Duchin & His Orchestra during the band's greatest years, from 1933 to 1941, and was the band's primary trumpet soloist and one of its musical arrangers. There is a large polished granite Memorial wall and annual Memorial Day ceremony is held here at which the names of those Veterans who died during the prior year are unveiled. A very crowded…read moreneighborhood Lincoln Park is a Hebrew cemetery that is still open for new arrivals. The first thing that struck me was how crowded certain areas were. I've seen very old graveyards where the gravestones were placed close together but I don't ever think I've seen one quite this packed. Since I haven't been to many Hebrew Cemeteries I don't know if this is a common practice or unique to this particular graveyard. Others areas were very open which made quite a contrast. The cemetery is lovely and has some unique and very beautiful memorials. Lots of stones that were carved to resemble tree stumps and some very oddly shaped gravestones. The Hebrew practice of placing small stones on the gravesites out of respect was also very prevalent and added a very poignant and personal touch to this beautiful cemetery. A truly wonderful and fascinating cemetery that is a very lovely and reflective reminder of those that have lived before us and have now moved on.
