The dead probably don't care so much, but us living who visit them would enjoy the serenity. This is not a creepy horror-movie cemetery, no, this is the quiet contemplative kind, where it's socially acceptable to talk to yourself and the ones pushing daisies from below. The staff seem to take good care of the grounds, keeping the grass trim and occasionally planting those tiny flags on holidays. There's a golf course next door... I wonder if the old retired golfers look over here and feel differently than I do...

A peaceful place…read more The Cedar Lane Cemetery was established in 1861 and was originally only one acre. But as people on the island insisted on dying, the non sectarian cemetery kept expanding until it's now almost ten acres It use to have a cool entrance on the west side but since the new highway was built the only way to really get into the graveyard is now from the south and Cedar Lane. The cemetery is very quiet and unassuming. Most of the memorials are small and modest, no huge obelisks or gigantic and ostentatious gravesites. Just very quiet reminders of who was here in days past.
