Was trying to sell my comics books but I knew from the beginning he wasn't going to do anything but belittle me and think I'm stupid and that I don't know how to sell comics or anything about them. Even though the last 4 years I've been selling my collection off and did sell half of them. I know how bad it is to sell comics now. Just if you don't want to deal with people then go find a different job. Don't bother trying to sell to him he will give you attitude and if you have what they want probably won't give you more than 20% of its value. read more

I've been coming here for a few years now and love the place. I find some hard-to-find and exclusive toys and figures plus collectibles. They have a wide range of old and toy new toys. It's a very nice collection. I enjoy coming here with my young niece and nephew. I am an avid toy collector and have been going to San Diego Comic Con for the past 2 decades so this place is a hidden gem and highly recommend. read more

The place is stuffed to the gills with collectibles and it can be somewhat disorganized, but it is fun to check out all the things they have and the prices have seemed reasonable to me. Went into this place just to check it out. Ended up asking to see some items that were in a glass case and even apologized for taking some of the owner's time since he was busy. He reluctantly helped me out and as I decided not to buy any of the cards I looked at, he berated me and told me I was just trying to find "cheap PSA 10's in the wild". I laughed and left the store and thanked him for his time. I then walked into another store and on my way out, while he was having a smoke break with another individual, he started going through the situation we had just had and was talking crap not knowing I could hear him plain as day. A nice place I suppose for toy nerds and action figure enthusiasts, but not the most friendly feel of places. I entered at my own risk with J as he can easily spend hours looking at action figures, old toys and packaging. I'll admit, some of the stuff is fun to look at, like the gizmo action figure from Gremlins and old toys, but Im not a die hard by any means and didn't really need it. There weren't many females in the place which I get. It's a man cave for boys and intense toy collectors who are really serious about this stuff. They do carry quite a few action figures, video games, cards: baseball, garbage pail kids, old nintendo systems, and some even older video game units. Anime, a few DVD titles and a bunch of other old odds and ends. The general feel was not that welcoming and just seemed to have a general air of "you're a bother" while roaming through the store. If I have to sit and listen to the history of action figures I would rather do it some place else. read more

An EXCELLENT store positively MOUNDED with fun stuff to look at, buy or marvel over. I saw some seriously cool stuff in there! If only the staff weren't such complete tools. I went in with two huge boxes of merchandise to sell or perhaps trade. The young man behind the counter was very polite and called the store owner (apparently he lives like a block away) to come have a look at everything since it was a rather large amount. I told him what I would like as far as trade value, and he offered me about a fourth of what I asked for. Not taking it personal, I smiled and told him I would look elsewhere. Dude went OFF on me, demanding what sort of profit margin I thought was fair for a store like his, did I understand how business were run ("no I don't think you do!"), and so on. I was so taken aback I didn't know what to say. Then he tried to convince me to leave the boxes and boxes of stuff I'd brought for a mere $200. When I turned him down, he got aggressive and on his feet, trying to convince me what a bad decision it would be to sell any of it online ("think of the shipping, the boxes, etc. eating into your profit!"), how little I knew what I was doing and so on. The man was rude, crude, and ugly about the whole thing as I tried to hurriedly pack all my stuff back up into my boxes and not damage anything (mostly 20+ year old toys). As my wife and i were heading out the door we heard him say "I really wish I could'a broken that guy!" What a jerk! The store owner was aggressive, rude, and as it turns out, a bit of a scammer. I've sold just ONE of the (dozen or so?) items I brought for him for over $200 since my visit. While I wouldn't expect him to pay 100% of the value price, I also wouldn't expect to be freaking ROBBED in the process. What a scam! Sold my enormous Star Wars collection to Steve(owner). We agreed on a price and he got a hell of a deal for what he took home (hundreds of carded figures, battle backs and boxed vehicles and tons of loose items). I helped him and his son bring the items up to his vehicle, threw in extra loose figures and vehicles and I even helped him move the entire collection to his house. The next morning I realized that he had taken a box that I had not intended to sell. Called texted him the next day to try to retrieve it. When I was able to get a hold him he said "I don't know exactly what you are talking about because everything has been processed. The deal is done". I had two pieces of a ship that he was missing and I as willing to give him as a sign of good faith. He didn't care. So, . . . .no good deed goes unpunished. The owner prices items outrageously high (both new in box and loose as well)! Cedar Cliff has a great selection, but at those prices I would rather buy online or look on eBay! Once in a while you may find an arbitrary good deal on an item, but that's like 1/10 visits. I only go because I tag along with a friend. The staff is patronizing and make it seem as if you are bothering them by asking them a question. They only appear to be friendly upon taking your cash. They do not tax you if you are paying with cash, but you need to make a minimum $5.00 purchase to justify your credit card transaction. The owner does not hide the fact that he is a vulture. I have heard him boast about how much he has ripped people off by "jacking up prices" or even how he makes fun of his patrons for ordering "dumb" Doctor Who products. At one of the comic conventions he had his staff tearing through trading cards to find the chase/rare cards... I know this is common, but right in front of your customers...? Classy. I've been going to this store for years. They've moved locations twice, but they've always been one of my favorite comics and collectibles stores. They have amazing prices on most of the stuff I collect, like the loose D&D miniatures which are only 1-2 bucks a piece, and plenty of other stuff like action figures and comics. Also worth mentioning, people who don't like the owner really just don't understand his sense of humor. As long as you put forth the effort to chat with him and be a normal friendly person (instead of acting like a scared teenage nerd) he's extremely nice. He's even cut me awesome deals before BECAUSE I talked to him for a while and acted friendly. He's really not a bad guy, and he's not mean, he's just got a sort of sarcastic sense of humor, and it's a great shop. read more

Cedar Cliff Collectibles is just like your mom's basement; comic books, toys, games, and cards fill up the place floor to ceiling. The clutter, however, remains the same. You have to dig for what you want, it's all on (or under) tables. Once you settle in and start browsing, you must decide if paying $20+ for an over-printed Nintendo game or to walk out the door. Next, should you get an employees attention (between opening packs of cards to keep the rares, for markup), hope you're not insulted. Nice place to get cool stuff if you can withstand the complete lack of customer service and rude behavior from the staff. I've been there multiple times and each time I've either been completely ignored or been looked at with contempt or agitation when I ask a question. It's really ridiculous almost to the point of being laughable. Things seem pretty overpriced as well and good luck trying to sell them something. They seem extremely arrogant and only friendly to the small elite that are their regulars that I'm guessing are keeping their heads above water. I went into this store and was helped twice by a very friendly employee with blonde hair and glasses. The experience that ruined it for me was another employee with dark hair who was very rude to me in explaining all about how his business is run. He even went as far as to raise his voice to me in anger when I was trying to negotiate a trade-in. These people need to treat customers like they want them to come back and not like opponents. As an owner of 29 marvel statues and 2 Thor's hammer replicas, I consider myself to be an informed and avid collector. I have visited countless collectible stores in Minnesota and can guarantee you that no store in Minnesota has a wider collection of comic book, movie, television, and video game collectibles. This is also one of the few stores that will offer you store credit for statues and other high end collectibles. I am constantly surfing eBay and Cedar Cliff Collectibles' prices are normally lower than eBay's, plus you don't have to pay for shipping and can ask the staff to open the statue box so that you can inspect for damage or defects. Yes, the store is cluttered, but I'll gladly tolerate a little clutter in exchange for such a vast selection. The staff and owners are very knowledgeable and answer questions or offer advice with frank honesty. read more

This place is great for collectibles! They have toys and collectibles from the 60's and 70's to today. It might look cluttered, but there's little gems everywhere and half the fun is exploring to see what you'll find. The staff are knowledgeable and good to deal with and the entire place has that great '90's vibe of a post-modern Shinders. I posted an ad on Craig's List to sell the remainders of my Magic: the Gathering card collection. Apparently, the owner of Cedar Cliff Collectibles peruses Craig's List for just such listings. He then sent me a form email that he must send to tons of people every day, asking me to get in touch with him to talk about my collection. Since it was a very descriptive listing, there was no need, I told him: all the details of the small collection were listed with a lot of specifics. I said you can take or leave the offer. I had plenty of emails about it and ended up selling the collection for the asked price that night to someone else. He didn't like that response and swore at me (the F-bomb). This is the owner, mind you, not some cashier or something. Even that would be bad enough. So, I told him that wasn't such a good idea and that I'd be doing things like this to let everyone know how they operate. Ive been to this store a handful of times, and only when theres no other place Id rather go to find what I need. The employees always have an unfriendly demeanor, as if youre a bother just being in their store. If you ask for something they dont have they dont even try to be helpful with suggestions on where to look for it. Its a "buy what we have or leave" mentality. The store is cluttered and messy, which is strange because the employees never seem to be working. It cant be that hard to organize their merchandise so that it looks presentable. One of the first times I was in the store I was browsing thru some cards, and there was 1 other customer there (middle aged man looking at Magic cards). As soon as he left the owner started talking negatively about him to his employees AS IF I WERENT EVEN THERE. He made a comment about the guy being so poor he couldnt afford to pay 10 cents for some commons and couldnt feed his own kids. I couldnt believe this. Who says something like this about their own customers?! This store is disgusting and the employees are even worse. I discovered this hidden gem from a friend that new I was getting back into collecting figures and comics. The store has everything a collector could want! His prices are always right there with eBay prices and you don't have to pay for shipping. If you notice his price might be a little to high compared to eBay he will almost always honor the eBay price. All you need to do is ask. He has always given me fair value for trading in items for store credit. You also have to remember no matter where you trade your stuff in every place is looking to make money and that place is doing all the work by trying to sell the items for you. The people that work there and the owner have always been very friendly and knowledgeable. If you're a true collector or you just want to pick up some loose or retail action figures for your kids, you owe it to yourself to visit this store! read more

This is a tale of two stories. First, They have a lot of hard to find items at an OK price. Some things are great to fairly priced and somethings are ridiculous. Inventory aplenty! Second, These guys are such D-bags! The owner is a special kind of jerk! He is either trapped in this place and hates it or has never found interacting with other humans, all that pleasurable. His staff mimics his poor example and there is maybe one guy in the whole place you'd want talk the trade with. I bring this out because collectors of toys, comics, games and movies participate in the hobby as much to BS about it as they do to actually collect. AGAIN, lots of great inventory and a place you can literally dig for good finds, but god help you if you have a question, offer a lower price, feel like learning anything about their products or open your gums expecting anything more then masked contempt for your intrusion of staff/ownerships valuable day. read more

I've been coming to Cedar Cliff Collectibles ever since I was a child and they were in their old, cramped location. I love their selection of toys and comics (I'm a huge Star Wars nerd) and they have incredible prices. You will never pay more than you would online anywhere. The staff are very knowledgable, reasonable people who are actually nerds to the core themselves, and that is important to me. Sounds like the rest of the reviewers are just butt hurt lol. It's a great store, you don't see many local shops anymore. Also, they don't overprice in their products. I guess previous customers are just cheapskates; Alex, Amy, and Paul. I mean if you don't like a local shops, then get on the corporate dicks of The Source or whatever. I always come in and pick up 3 packs of magic cards for just 10 bucks. You can't find that kind of deal anywhere else. Another thing is they are pretty damn knowledgeable. I was recently at The Source asking about general MTG questions and the woman there just refers to me to another employee, Jeff, because she didn't know what the shit I was talking about. Damn you Janice from Roseville. Anyways, I recommend making the trip to there if you're in need of Magic cards or other items.
