Shirley always makes great breakfasts (her eggs Benedict, sausage pie, pea meal bacon and ginger scones are my favorites) and the different rooms I've stayed in here have all been very comfortable. The king size room has a microwave, TV, mini fridge, huge soaker tub, sauna and is enormous. The rates are the best on the Island, ranging from $45 for a single to $95 for the king. there's a beautiful little pond and creek and a gorgeous gazebo and hot tub. It's near Vesuvius at the north of the Island. you gotta stay here- it's delightful and great value. And you'll love Shirley.

Started out with lobster bisque (with a good amount of lobster) and a dozen snails (chef slipped a couple extra!) in a marvelous garlic butter and Parmesan sprinkled over all. Then for entree we enjoyed a wonderfully prepared Herb Crusted Wild Pacific Red Snapper With Creamy Parmesan Polenta, Basil Pesto. I enjoyed the Pan-Seared Nova Scotia Deep Sea Scallops on a fresh bed of lettuce mix and greens. So definitely a restaurant to try but you'll want to plan staying a night or more given they are on an island off the Vancouver island! Rooms are great also with some placed in cabins with views making you feel like you're in a tree house amongst the pines. Of particular notes, each morning different fresh baked muffins mysteriously appeared outside the suite door . But definitely the breakfast each day was amazing.

Cabins are surprisingly comfortable, both cabins we stayed were really clean, they have kitchens and of course a BBQ ready :) Prices are also great, if you're coming as a group like we did, it is very affordable. Owner is friendly and ready to help whenever you need, but also respectful to your privacy. We are in love with this place and we will definitely keep coming on each opportunity :)

Everything is really as beautiful as the pictures and you can see it all from the bedroom! It was also such a bonus to get to watch the sunrise and the sunset in bed without having to venture out. Joe and Dianne are the hosts at Above the Narrows and they were very friendly and helpful on our trip. Joe gave us many great recommendations while we were there and they also have a guidebook in the room that pointed us to some great spots as well. Joe also prepared the breakfast each morning and it was very delicious! He even used local eggs which made the meals extra special. I was very happy with the amount of interaction I had with the hosts. They are not overwhelming at all, leaving us to enjoy our breakfasts alone. The room also has its own separate entrance so there is quite a bit of privacy. That said, Joe was very responsive and was always happy to answer any of our questions. The location of the bed and breakfast is also very convenient if you are driving. Personally, I visited Salt Spring Island without a car once and it was definitely not a very good experience because all the fun things on the island are quite far apart. But there is a nice network of trails right by the house and we could go on morning/evening strolls through the forest with ocean views too! We had such a great time here and I would definitely recommend this place!

(get ready, this is a long one)…read more After a few very different stays at Bodega, I can honestly say that it's one of my absolute favourite places in the world. In.the.world. The staff not only take an unfathomable amount of pride in their work, but are friendly, professional, and entirely accommodating of just about any reasonable request. One of their star employees, Dave, has always made me feel as though I am not just a guest, but am visiting my second home. And I imagine that I'm not alone when I say that after the first visit and meeting with the owners, Jesse and Chris, that I felt as though I'd gained two new best friends. Talented, whip smart, and cool, they are the perfect proprietors of such a place. Island life can be tricky, teetering between too hippie and too stuffy, but they've found a real balance by being themselves, and the property at Bodega reflects this. With three bedrooms, two bathrooms, a fireplace, and a fully equipped kitchen in each of the seven cabins, this is not what I'd consider roughing it by any stretch of the imagination. A classic log cabin inside and out, the modern touches are what make it cool. Plush leather couches, filament bulb lamps, Pendleton blankets, reclaimed Douglas Fir tables--the could-be twee aspect of cabin life is exonerated by sensible design. There's even a flat screen TV in each cabin with a small library of movies in the main lodge to choose from, but I wouldn't bother--there's so much to see and do at or nearby Bodega Ridge. Spectacular meadows, forests, and wildflowers surrounding the property, Bodega is positioned so that it's almost always bright and sunny. The staggeringly beautiful trails along the ridge offer one of the best views of the gulf islands, and the ocean is close enough to walk to in a matter of minutes. Also, bonus: the weirdly infamous Stoneworld (as seen here: http://www.hellobc.com/british-columbia/blog/january-2011/stoneworld-on-galiano-island.aspx) is a worthy stop on the way to a serious magical forest hike. Free wifi throughout the property, an amazing main lodge that can accommodate up to 70 dinner guests, and wonderfully knowledgeable proprietors who will have a recommendation for just about anything--all a quick boat ride from Vancouver. I don't know that I have the words to describe just how amazing Bodega Ridge is. Bringing the city to the island, staying rustic and real, this place has it all. **of note: Bodega is located about a 40 minute drive, or a few leisurely hours by bike from the ferry. Amazing ferry service between Vancouver and the islands…read more The boat is huge and could barely feel it move across the choppy waters of the inlets. The cafe was nice and great service too. Food tasty and great quality! After being used to the horrible service that is the norm on many US public transport, it was refreshing to see a great transit service.
