In this case, the Barclay Hotel was so damn convenient that I couldn't pass up the opportunity to stay here. First of all, the price for the location is very reasonable. It's located right off Robson Street amongst all of the fancy hotels, restaurants, and shopping. This is prime time baby. Prime. Time. Now, don't get me wrong; this hotel ain't fancy by any means. But it's clean, comfortable, and convenient. The 3 c's that I will always live for when it comes to accommodations. It's an older hotel so I feel like this is why it's such a bargain when compared to the other newer hotels nearby. But, don't let the age of this hotel fool you; it's a great deal. The only rooms that were available during the time that I booked were two queens. When I arrived, the front staff was very kind and helpful. There are no elevators in this hotel so keep this in mind if you have heavy luggage. I'm generally a light packer, so this didn't affect me much. The room was large, bright, and clean. It had a small sofa, work desk, mini fridge and TV (I never watched anything on it). The bathroom was a nice size and also very clean. My room had a nice view of Robson street. Housekeeping was great and cleaned my room thoroughly everyday. The heater is old school radiator style, so it took a bit of time for the room to warm up but it definitely kept it warm. I barely saw anyone in the lobby and didn't hear any other guests while I was there. Not sure about the parking situation since I took public transit while I visited, but the fact that I was able to walk to most places was wonderful. The train and bus are within a few minutes walk. So many eateries that are literally right next door and across the street. The convenience is what truly did it for me, and I felt completely safe staying here. I would definitely stay here again during a future trip to Vancouver. You cannot beat the incredible value and prime location.

It's not a four star hotel but the outdoor facing entrances of a inn was evident. The accommodations were very comfortably appointed with a mini fridge, microwave, coffeemaker and a rubber ducky. The inn lobby had a coffeemaker/espresso maker from beans, now tell me if you can find many inns that can offer that. That alone sets it apart from any other places I've stayed at before. Oh, I need to make you aware, not every room has a microwave, the rooms that don't have a microwave have a larger refrigerator instead.

A one-bedroom signature suite at L'Hermitage was significantly less than a regular room at the Pan Pacific and the Rosewood so I booked 3 nights ($625CAD/night). I got off the Silver Moon at 9:45am, handed my luggage off to a representative from Luggage Forward, and walked from the cruise terminal up to the hotel. My room wasn't ready, so I dropped off my carry-on and backpack and went shopping and to have lunch. I was still on my way to CF Pacific Centre when the front desk called, informing me my room was ready. I told them I'd return after lunch. Wow, I loved my room (707)! As you entered through a short hallway, you found yourself looking at a full kitchen to your right, bathroom to your left and then the bedroom, past a closet housing a stack washer/dryer. The living room was bright and airy because there were walls of glass. Past the kitchen was a den with a desk and sofa. Off the living room was a small lanai overlooking the pool. The kitchen featured a gas range, full-sized refrigerator, dishwasher and microwave. It was like a timeshare unit, not a hotel room, as there was tableware, glassware, etc. The only nitpick was the bathroom; it didn't quite measure up to the rest of the unit. It was small, with a full-sized glass-enclosed tub, a Toto (but without the washlet) toilet, and a small vanity and shelf unit opposite the vanity. It was totally functional, but I wished the tub had a shower wand, not just the rain head. If I could, I'd want this room moved to Hawaii to become my residence. The front desk staff were personable and friendly. The exercise facilities were fine. The L'Orangerie restaurant is located on the 5th floor ... more on that in a separate review. All told, I found the L'Hermitage to be perfect for me and will now be my hotel of choice when in Vancouver.

Not sure if safe if you have a stroller or mobility issues, as the cars can be aggressive. The nearest supermarket is Foodieland -- quite far, terrain is not even and again, cars were aggressive. We love Foodieland for the hot meals. Too bad it was quite a walk from the hotel if you just want a snack or milk. Front desk and staff were very nice. The shuttle driver did not say anything. Restaurant was lovely.

The living room looks super cozy -- love the pop of red from the cushions and the new artwork on the wall. There's a bathroom followed by a little kitchen area, and I was impressed that the drawers and cabinets are fully stocked with dishes, utensils, and cooking tools. Super handy if you want to eat in. The bedroom is in the back and has a nice city view from the window. It can get a bit noisy in the hallway at night since the doors to neighboring rooms are pretty close, but because the bedroom is farther inside, I didn't really hear much once I was in bed. Overall, a comfortable and convenient place to stay in downtown Vancouver. Great location and solid value -- I'd totally come back again.

The fixture for the AC installment was just a piece of painted plywood. I would definitely come back. The location and neighborhood is great. It has everything one could need such as grocery store, movies, skytrain, restaurants, and other places to go. We got lucky with parking during the weekend. It's free from after 8pm to 12pm. But if we had to spend a weekday there, I wouldn't know where to park.

When we arrived, we found that all the grass on the property had been ripped out - maybe they're updating it or something, I don't know. but they really should mention that. It was a real pain finding somewhere for my dog to do it's business - our options were a) in the parking lot or b) in the dirt. I just wish they had mentioned that there was no green space available. Oddly enough, the BEST part of our stay doesn't even exist according to their website. In the FAQs for the hotel it says that there is NOT a pool onsite, but there is. It is an outdoor heated pool and it was INCREDIBLE. The water was so warm, it was really lovely to float around in for a bit before bed.
