Each site has a firepit, and the campground office sells firewood at $7/bundle. We camped two nights here in a tent while bike touring. It has a few hills coming from town, but the whole island is a bit hilly. It is about 5 km from Ganges town, about 25-30 mins bike ride depending on your fitness level. If the weather is bad, at least there is a recreation room to retreat into that overlooks the water. Facilities they have are: - electricity at the campsite - heated washrooms (up to 13c) - flush toilets with running warm water - warm showers - outside sink for dishwashing - wifi internet - hot tub (6 ppl capacity) - small pool - recreation games room that is heated -- ping pong table -- television with cable tv channels -- couches with coffee table for board games - boat to borrow There is a movie theater nearby as well and the ability to launch boats into St Mary's lake to go fishing. Also available are campsites for RVs & trailers, and cabins with full kitchen and BBQ for cooking. We paid $35/night for 3 people with two tents sharing one campsite. You can call ahead to reserve your spot. Payment in advance required to reserve. Site 16 & 17 is really close to the washrooms. Note that there are exterior lights to the washroom if you think it might bother your sleep.

From the Seaview Haven Chalet, with it's own kitchen and two floors of my own space, it was blissful peace from the moment I dropped my bags. Definitely rustic, with a grandma's house vibe (complete with stuffed animals) the chalet only has one piece of "technology," a CD player--ideal when you're there to escape! *And a potty note -- they are on a septic system, so if you can handle tossing your TP in the trash instead of the bowl, they greatly appreciate it!* The view from the bedroom was incredible! Waking up to look at the ocean, framed in trees always has a way of winning my heart! My only suggestions would be for them to update some of the furnishings, linens and bedding. Right next to the main house, a stream runs straight over the big rocks leading to the ocean. I had to admit, there was something serenely magical about sitting out on this edge. When the tide was out, I spent so long stretched out on a long rock with my book that I sunburned -- ouch! A bathtub (yes, a bathtub) that you can fill up is built right into the rocks. I didn't give it a try - not being a bath person myself, but it does have a great view! *A deer note: Make sure you're around at dinner time, that's when the deer come out and try to sneak nibbles through the fences they have protecting their gardens.* There's also a couple of rooms they rent out inside the main house which had extraordinary views as well! Maybe if I'm feeling more social next time I want to escape I'll look into one of those...one did have a hammock after all! If this is up your alley, I should warn, the house is situated down a long steep gravel road, 12 km from the ferry terminal. That's about 1/2 way up the island, so I'd say a car, or really powerful bike legs...and it is a hilly ride!

I have chronic pain and long standing issues from an MVA and she really did help. My roomie got a massage that was more related to stress and emotions. Theres only one RMT so we took turns. We both came out feeling genuinely happy. The Massage room is a separate house, also another amazing structure. Its clean, modern, well-set up. She asks you tell her about your body and when you go to disrobe, she goes behind these doors and then you tell her when youre ready. I actually love the face pillow that you put your head on when lying face down, it is, for once, comfortable!! Host: Luannah said she was going to send me referrals in Vancouver for a chiro and an RMT, which I thought was really kind and thoughtful of her. She knocks on the door and also responds to texts and calls. Her husband and kid came home later in the evening. She was super caring, thoughtful and helpful. Even packed us food to go cause we were in a rush for the ferry. Provided advil. Wifi is good. Shower nozzle was super tricky to get right. There's cat in the main area and I think I only sneezed and blew my nose a handful of times, which I'd say youre pretty safe imo. Cat is 19 year old Jeremiah who goes outside and stays downstairs, super cute!! Hot tub was my super favorite part.

We have been here before (for the spa - restaurant was closed during COVID, when we were last there), and were thus return customers for the spa, and first-timers for the restaurant. The meal was really good; definitely good value for money (though it wasn't cheap). If you have vegetarians (like my spouse) in the crowd, the "hippie/draft dodging" history of Galiano Island means you have some pretty great options. LOVED the soup! Everyone left full, and happy. As for the massages, we all agreed they were simply TERRIFIC! Notably, Linda (who was my masseuse) gave me the best massage I have received. (I am sufficiently spoiled to have had a few...) Seriously, will plan my next trip around Linda's availability.

Everything is really as beautiful as the pictures and you can see it all from the bedroom! It was also such a bonus to get to watch the sunrise and the sunset in bed without having to venture out. Joe and Dianne are the hosts at Above the Narrows and they were very friendly and helpful on our trip. Joe gave us many great recommendations while we were there and they also have a guidebook in the room that pointed us to some great spots as well. Joe also prepared the breakfast each morning and it was very delicious! He even used local eggs which made the meals extra special. I was very happy with the amount of interaction I had with the hosts. They are not overwhelming at all, leaving us to enjoy our breakfasts alone. The room also has its own separate entrance so there is quite a bit of privacy. That said, Joe was very responsive and was always happy to answer any of our questions. The location of the bed and breakfast is also very convenient if you are driving. Personally, I visited Salt Spring Island without a car once and it was definitely not a very good experience because all the fun things on the island are quite far apart. But there is a nice network of trails right by the house and we could go on morning/evening strolls through the forest with ocean views too! It is separated from the main home offering privacy and quiet. It has its own hot tub too located on a private balcony. The innkeepers, Richard and Julie are warm, amicable and great hosts. To me a good B and B is not just the facility but the folks who run it. They are great and will make you feel right at home. Julie will feed you well too, so make sure you go for a hike, bike or run afterward and the Fernhill B and B is located really close to the wonderful hiking trails of Mount Parke. Oh yeah-the B and B has a big ole cat and a cute and slightly skittish rescue Shiba Inu. They both add warmth and character to this wonderful accommodation.

The photos of rooms may have been taken a few years ago when the motel was given a modern vibe makeover. The modern touches are still nice though there has been some wear. The room we stayed in is considered a deluxe and comes with a big TV, microwave, coffee maker, AC, and a small refridgerator with tiny freezer.  Our small room had a comfy bed with bedside lights and outlets for charging devices. Wifi is good.  There is a small table with two chairs in the room for reading or breakfast though the weather was so nice we often sat at the table outside our unit. The shower is a joy! It is a spacious walk in with a large window for light and plenty of hot water. Towels, soap, shampoo, and lotion are provided. The motel has a laundry area that is open 8am-8pm.  The Duncan Motel is in a quiet area transitioning into an area with more apartment buildings. No, it's not the best neighborhood, but is safe and very walkable. The manager closes the big gate at the entry from 11pm-5am to add further security. Staff are super friendly and helpful and we have met some other very nice young and older guests. I definitely recommend the Duncan Motel for your next Cowichan Valley stay.
