Technician came on time, as scheduled, and identified the problem in 10 minutes. He ordered part needed, charged me for service call $95.00, and left. Week later the front desk called they have received the part ordered, and scheduled repair. The technician showed as scheduled, it took him 15 minutes to complete the repair. At this time, I was charged another $142.21 for the repair and the part ( burner switch-about $56.) So, the total labor, per invoice, comes to $175.00. With this said, I consider the labor cost of my appliance repair ( two years old electric range ) is a bit expensive, compared to IPhone repair, or car repair, for example. The front desk was not able to tell me the labor rate per hour. So, next time, when you shop for appliance repair, do some research, when calling around for appliance repair company.

My Bosch dishwasher stopped working after a power hit on 2 January. Suspected circuit board fried…read morefrom gitgo, prepared for bad news. Tech came out on 5th or 6th, pulled out appliance, and checked control unit on right side. Did control unit test, indicated original control unit fried. Est repair $430 including one svc call and control unit. Ordered replacement control unit that day, it arrived following week. Biz owner (The Boss) came out on the 13th to install replacement control unit, which would not work. On inspecting packaging, he suspected the part was used, and declared it defective. He reinstalled original control unit. In the interim, The Boss did a precursory search around with a flashlight and smelled burning insulation, with smoke coming from terminal control box in front. Seems Justin Case was watching out for us. The Boss took off front valance and found exposed burnt insulation on hot wire. He said the wire had worked loose from machine screw terminal causing voltage drop to control unit, causing malfunction, but no electronics damage. The Terminal box WAS damaged, I guess the cost about $30 or $40. A lot less than $350 for the control unit! He said likely cause was faulty installation (7 years ago) by under-torqued connections, which explained brief recovery. He ordered a new terminal box and will install it for $96 with parts in addition to the single service call. That was about 40% of the original estimate. He also mentioned new electrical code will require plug-in wall outlets for dishwashers. I can't guarantee appliance repairs will go that well for everyone, but I find these people to be honest and perfectly reliable, and with a Holmes-Poirot-Father Brown doggedness to get to the bottom of the issue. Other sources here in Yelp, as well as others, rate Scott's as highly as I. They DO come out here to the Wild West as well as Baldwin County. BTW I installed the appliance in 2015 so it was my fault the connections were under-torqued. That is, I should have used a socket instead of a screwdriver. The next patient will get the Scott Appliance treatment for sure.

A couple of weeks back we hired Mobile Bay Handyman to come look at our disposal. During the…read morevisit, it was determined it was completely dead and needed to be replaced. The job was completed quickly and professionally. The garbage disposal works and we happily paid the bill. The first time we ran our dishwasher after this, it leaked everywhere. We called Mobile Bay Handyman back, told the person who answered the phone what the problem was and that a tech was here recently. They sent a field tech the same day. The tech diagnosed the issue immediately. When Mobile Bay Handyman installed the garbage disposal, the tech who did that did not remove a "plug" that allows water to flow from the dishwasher...thus causing the leak and water everywhere. We received a bill, but wanted to discuss it with them as it was there fault for not removing the plug during the installation. The person we spoke to did not agree with our assessment. He basically feels that if a surgeon were to cut you open to repair an artery for example and you bleed out as a result that this is not the surgeons fault. I offered to pay the "service fee" but felt that Mobile Bay Handyman should absorb the rest of the cost because, again, it was there fault for not doing all the steps at installation. My advice is to be careful and ask all the right questions (do your own research on potential problems) and make sure everything is done correctly.
