Aug. 15, 2026, early AM:: I just visited on a road trip to Tally. New store, no sale racks or clearance yet. We were the first customers, somewgat empty at 10am. The manager seemed distracted as we checked out. She didnt ask if I had an account LOL. The manager never asked for my phone number to get my rewards and the manager said I will ask them to add it. Of course I would trust her. I had an account from my last Road trip, we stopped at Cavenders in South Georgia.
A tall white man approached us, was friendly. He hovered alot. He was helpful, but hoovering makes you feel pressured.
CAUTION: Now, as a black person and Florida native Im used to the racist shadowing, and following even though I have 3 college degrees and make almost $200k, I used to this following. So, I ignored it/him. He is young, and probably following orders. He did ask a white man on the same row, if he needed something. He snapped back, boots. So the kid said nothing more. He kept hovering over me. I got my Durangos and left. He almost followed us to every section. I will admit a white girl in ladies, did keep working. I purposely left my purse in the car to minimize the amount of shadowing me lol. But he was pleasant. Not rude.
I was recently in South Florida at an Ariat Outlet at Sawgrass Mall. That girl was downright rude and crazy and racist. I got my daughter boots for her trip to Texas, she was going with Key Club as an officer to speak at a conference. Well, the 20 yr old worker bee told us how wearing pants inside boots is dated, wearing pointie toe was out, dead. And there is a right way, wrong way for boots and fashion or people will know we arent from Texas. And even when I firmly said, we know how we want to wear our boots. She went on and on to the point of annoyance! Yes, I reported her later to the manager and Ariat corporate. Often leaders arent aware of the shenanigans at the store level, so they are blind to local antics that can ruin a stores brand.
Anyway, long story short, the fashion at Cavenders is middle of the road. Shocked at no good Wrangler bags. You would think they would have a huge Wrangler purse area with chains to lock em up. I bought one on Amazon prior so I'm ready! The mens clothing is a bit jazzier, but 15-20% overpriced. I'm sure due to the brillant tariffs. So, we found better western clothing, prices at Rural King. Nice wide selection of boots, most start at $100.
Its a great store, worth the stop if you want clean, nice merch, descent staff. Im sure they are not overly racist, as I saw a blk guy walk in as we walked out. Cultural sensitivity is warranted for staff training. I use to own a store - here is a good rule: watch everyone equally. I found white and blk shoplifters. Practice good security, then there's zero racial profiling! I would return for sure on another road trip. Im a believer in GRACE. We all must extend grace. Now if I go back and get overly shadowed while whites shop in peace, then I will call it out and update here!!!
