READ THIS BEFORE SELLING YOUR COLLECTION To HERO COMICS & CARDS!…read more I walk in and the owner shows me this incredible card collection he just bought from someone and starts bragging how he already sold a card for $2000. Mind you, he had no idea how to identify some of these cards. I've been in this hobby for 10+ years and I was more than happy to show him everything I know on about how to identify a card. One of the cards I helped him identify was worth $900-1300 conservatively and in NM condition. When he found out how much this card was worth he told me he didn't even factor this card into the value of the collection when he paid for the collection. He said that he thought this particular card wasn't real or was tacky. If you do not know how to evaluate certain cards don't accept them but instead do the right thing and guide your customers to a place that can evaluate a collection appropriately. This should be common sense for someone who has been in the industry as long as you have been. When the owner realized how much the card was worth he didn't seem too concerned about ripping the person off at all! Instead he said "sometimes not knowing what a collection is worth can truly payoff," then he laughed. I really tried to have a good conversation with this man but deep down my intuition was screaming that this person was lost in Greed. There was one card I wanted to buy and he wasn't even willing to sell the card for fair market value even though I helped him identify these cards. All of a sudden somehow he became the expert and was suggesting that these cards were worth more than they actually were. He kept referencing TCG player prices but he knows nothing about how this market works and pretends he does! He didn't even know how to look up these cards on TCGplayer until I showed him. The prices you find on TCGplayer are oftentimes above market value and you can almost always find them cheaper on eBay! Don't deal in a market you're clearly not informed enough to deal in. Be ethical and guide people in the right direction rather than try and fill your own pockets. It's just really sad businesses like Hero Comics exist. I feel for the customer who didn't get the value for their collection that they truly deserved. If you are looking to sell a collection get a quote from multiple card shops before actually selling your cards. If you find out your cards are worth a pretty penny reach out to an online auction that pays 90% of a cards value! Their are plenty of local card shops that know what they're doing and won't accept cards that they are not experts in. Many of these shops are fully transparent with you about the cards you have and can guide you into the right direction. And to Hero Comics, no one is perfect, do the right thing, actually reach out to the person, and be fully transparent with them on what the cards are worth and what they sell for. Give them at least a 70% commission which is industry standard for most card-shops. Take accountability, learn, and grow. I'm confident you will.

There is a toy store next door that seems to be affiliated with the bookstore, with a LFL out front. The bookstore is one room but they fit a lot in, with books for adults and children. They have a customer loyalty program for those in the area. Both employees were very welcoming. They also had very cool bookmarks for the shop that came with the purchase. They had art done by customers. The books are new and not used.

So when this middle-aged dad finally ended up in the store I wasn't sure what to expect from Boom Tube Comics. I knew bits and pieces from a lot of pop culture and just my own casual interest over the years, but still, I thought trying to get back into comic books would be confusing and intimidating. I'm happy to say that it turned out to be exactly the opposite. Dan has created the kind of comic shop in Boom Tube Comics that I think every fan or collector hopes to find. From my very first visit, he made me feel welcome, never talked down to me, and was incredibly patient in explaining how comics and his store works. He's a wealth of information too, from subscriptions and FOC dates, to special series, blind bags, conventions, etc. No matter what your level of knowledge is, he meets you where you are and seems to genuinely enjoy helping people learn more about the hobby. Dan's always happy to talk about local artists, comic book history, recommend an interesting/popular book, point out books you might otherwise overlook, and even suggest trustworthy online resources if you want to learn more about collecting or comic history. You never feel rushed, pressured, or like you're asking a "dumb" question. The man has patience for miles! On top of that, Dan has a terrific sense of humor that makes every visit enjoyable. It's the kind of place where you stop in for a few books and end up spending extra time just talking comics or cracking jokes and getting sucked into whatever is piquing your interest that week. His prices are fair for key issues and incentive covers, his customer service is exceptional (Shout out to his wife Karen, appreciate all you do too!). If you're hunting for an older issue, he's happy to check his back catalog to see if he has it. Subscribers are treated like royalty, he bags and boards books, slaps a discount on for you, and goes out of his way to make sure subscribers receive the best copies. He has a lot of gratitude for his regular customers/subscribers and it really shows that he wants them to have a premium, yet still classic, comic shop experience. The shop also has an excellent selection of toys, collectibles, and nostalgic items that make browsing as much fun as shopping. This a great TOY STORE TOO! I wasn't sure about diving back into comics in some ways, but Dan made it super easy and fun. If you're a longtime collector, someone returning to the hobby like me, a complete beginner, it doesn't matter. I truly can't recommend Boom Tube Comics highly enough. It's a fantastic local shop run by someone who truly loves comics and genuinely cares about the people who walk through the door. Support our local businesses! I've pretty much depleted my decades long accumulation of baseball cards so now I'm into selling off my football cards. I walked into DJ's Comics and Cards to sell six vintage New York Giants cards from the late 1950's and early 1960's. I had done my pricing research, and after correcting for condition and selling to a retailer, I had an idea what to ask for. He offered me $5 less than my assesment, so I countered with his cash offer plus $5 in store credit and that clinched the deal. I ended up using the store credit toward buying a Tom Brady and a Kobe Bryant card for my grandson. DJ's made me a very fair offer and we were both satisfied with the outcome. The store has quite a bit more comics than cards, but I sure enjoyed looking at the shopwcases and rummaging through the commons boxes.

There were a few vendors selling what I was looking for and were close in price between each other. After explaining my situation to the owner of Fanboy, Troy Emmi, he took his time to go over different options and even was able to help me preorder some rare items on his site, that no one else had available. He was basically 10%-15% below all the other companies and I have purchased about 4 more items since then and all we delivered as advertised in perfect condition. Some of these other reviewers seem to be focused on shipping issues which any owner has no control of.

The owner was so personable and ordered the book I needed for me. It came in a few days. I was happy to see my money going towards a local store vs something like Amazon! They also have an amazing kid section. My two young children have already asked to go back twice. The store has so many hidden details. It's a dream for my book loving family. Everything about this store is 5 stores and I will for sure be returning! Thank you for bringing such a great spot with character to our neighborhood!
