Cavanaugh's was a delightful place to visit while in Philly! A busy sports bar right downtown with the traditional sports bar feel (nice, large bar, louder environment and TVs with sports games on all over) and food options, but tasted much better than most normal sports bars! My wife and I had split a couple of appetizers, including their brussel sprouts and Philly cheese steak egg rolls, both of which were incredibly delicious! My only minor complaint was the slightly slow service but, it was a busy Halloween weekend, coupled with the World Series on TV, so I definitely understand the situation. We popped into Cav's Rittenhouse out of pure convenience, just a pit stop before dinner nearby, and somehow lucked into a table for six on a packed Saturday afternoon in the fall. We were only grabbing drinks, but our server was on it the whole time. She juggled a full crowd, kept our orders straight, and even got us the tab lightning-fast when it was time to move on. The crowd definitely skews younger, lots of 20s and 30s energy, lots of TVs showing every game imaginable, and a soundtrack that copies the mood. There's a bouncer at the door (and a couple inside), which kind of sets the tone, not that anything actually happened, but you get the sense a spontaneous something could breakout, but much later than my 7 pm visit visit. I can't say better reviews about the staff- always kind even when overwhelmed. Only reason for the lower stars is the food. The Cav's burger used to be a go-to, but it appears changes were made to the bun and presentation and it was not good. The new bun is very dry, even though the inside was rare the outside of the burger was extremely dry. There was no Cav's sauce as advertised in the menu. Caramelized onions were not cooked, just liquified, essentially wet onions and no flavor from caramelization? Burger itself was so dry with no flavor. I don't think the team had the right preparation or ingredients, which should have been communicated. With the food decline in quality I would not order the Cav's burger, though other items may still be good. But again, service was very nice acknowledging the anticipated long waits on busy nights. read more

I came on a Saturday for a group hangout at the bar and honestly we were a bit frustrated. The entire bar was rented out and reserved for different parties for the college football games, which is completely fine, however everywhere we stood or occupied we were told we weren't allowed there so I'm not sure why they let us in the bar to begin with. Pretty freaking bold statement to list your wing selection with the words, award winning wings, this sets the expectation sky high. I can attest these were brilliant. Not overdone and the chicken cooked inside was luscious and just perfect. It came with six flats and six drumsticks. I devoured the flats, and it was enough to fill me up. I would love the opportunity to try more of their menu as they list some great pub food. This establishment has been around for a long time however they moved the location I wanted to say within the past two years, and it is no longer the old dive bar, it is now something much more. My first time at Cavanaugh's since the move and I had a good time. Upstairs was kind of crowded for the Palmetto Bowl so I stayed up there briefly then found a spot at the downstairs bar where I was able to meet some folks who lived within walking distance. We chatted a bit, I offered some beer options that I thought they'd enjoy as I indulged in a Goose Island Boubon County Stout which is absolutely delicious! Available only on the main floor and is greatly recommend. The Saturday night college football atmosphere did not disappoint at all. Maybe, a little too accommodating trying to satisfy everyone with games on the tvs which is never a thing cause someone will find a reason to complain, but overall I appreciated the effort to show as many games as possible. It was great seeing everyone in their college gear and hearing the Ooohhhs and ahhhs, laughter, fight songs, and screams across the bar, upstairs and downstairs. If you're game, I'd say grab a mystery beer and let your tastebuds be surprised. I was not disappointed at all. :) My only issue was after a while the bartender was MIA and never came back to check on us or to see if we needed anything else. It was pretty busy but with a couple people behind the bar, just a quick, "Hey, are you guys good?" Acknowledgment would have been nice. I've been to this location a few times, never a dull moment! Each time I've been I've sat at the bar (pictured) or the upstairs rail. Service has been great wherever I've sat. It is quite noisy, but that is to be expected, it adds to the atmosphere. I went this past Monday for the UGA vs. TCU game and the every was phenomenal!!! I wish they were fried hard and then tossed in bbq sauce. The mozzarella sticks were oddly huge and there was way too much cheese. Plus the itty bitty marinara sauce they gave us was laughable . I thoroughly enjoyed the chicken quesadilla. It was awesome. The sautéed chicken, caramelized onions, and three cheese blend sent my palate to places I'd never think bar food could. Came here with a group of friends after a busy day walking around in the city. Cavanaugh's is your classic bar, with lots of tv's, noise and bustle. It's pretty much what you expect, and it was pretty average overall. We each ordered different items off the menu and agreed our dishes were average. I ordered the french tip sandwich and it was tasty but the quality wasn't great. The fries were the highlight of the meal though so I recommend trying them, especially with the chipotle mayo. Everything about her was nasty, from her tone and the look on her face. You would have thought I had just insulted her. This Sports Bar Food is "Just Ok". I'm a big fan of value, and I wasn't impressed here. The food isn't bad, but it's not good either. I found their prices to be higher than they should have been for their offering. While the burger meat was fine, the bun looked like a McDonald's McChicken, small slice of tomato, and very thin slice of cheese. The French fries were a bit cold and look just like McDonald's fries. The salad was OK, but you get deli meat, 1-2 slices. No sufficient, filling protein. Total for the two meals was $33. I just don't see the value and would not go out of my way to get takeout from them again. read more

For years, I have been a huge fan of all things Cavanaugh's (Riverdeck, Headhouse, and Rittenhouse). The food is always delicious, and the Cav's sauce is a must-try. I'd recommend ordering takeout because my most recent in-person visit left a very bad impression on me and the friends I brought with me. In short, the service from the bartenders on our Tuesday night visit was somewhere between unkind and genuinely mean. The food we had ordered came out at varying times, with one person waiting 15 minutes and another waiting 45 minutes. When you're ordering chicken fingers and fries, there is no reason it should take 45 minutes. In more detail... my friends and I are in a kickball league that plays on Tuesday nights. The league has different "bar sponsors" that offer promotional pricing if you visit their business on game day in your league shirt. We were thrilled to see that Cav's was on the list and gave it a try. I can understand how a group of 10 people showing up around 9 PM on a Tuesday night would be unwanted by a staff member. However, we're 10 paying customers and the business willingly chose to be a bar sponsor. When we arrived our IDs and vaccination cards were checked at the door. Then as we walked past the bar to grab seats, the bartender angrily stopped us to demand we show our vaccination cards, again. We tried to explain they had already been checked, and the staff member that checked them at the door also tried to explain this, however the bartender was intent on double checking... fine! A few of us stood by the bar, intending to buy some drinks and bring them back to the tables. The bartender told us to take a seat, that someone would come take our order. We did as we were told. After being ignored for 10-15 minutes, we went back up to the bar where the bartender told us we should just order there. This is where my confusion and frustration began, because this was the original plan. Disorganization is a pet peeve of mine, but this was not a huge deal. We finally got drinks, placed some food orders, and were enjoying our post-game team bonding. Two out of the three people that had ordered food received it in a reasonable amount of time. The third waited, and waited. Checked-in with the bartender to ask what the delay was and if someone may have been given her food by mistake. After a full 45 minutes of waiting, the food finally came. My friend was tired and frustrated to have to wait so long for chicken fingers and fries, so she asked for a takeout box and took it home with her. After she left, I witnessed and heard the bartender then go on to speak negatively about my friend for asking about the timing of her food and then ordering food while dining in and then immediately taking it to go. The worst part of this whole thing is that we did not even get the discount that Cav's offered the league for stopping by on game night in our shirts. This was overall a pretty negative experience for all parties involved (us as guests and clearly the staff as well). If you've made it this far, thank you for your dedication to reading my ramblings. Order their wings for takeout, and their mac and cheese! The delicious food is why Cav's is getting 3 stars. read more

From his eloquent greeting, friendly but stoic smile, attention to detail, and his eagerness to support his bartenders he is the backbone of the business. This place is out of control. The bartenders are basically obnoxiously perfect. I literally watched 800 sports fans pour into this place and get rapidly served like it was nbd. Also, the food is legit fucking nonsense wonderful. Looping back, the entire bar team, and their support staff, are outrageously polite and attentive for a group that has literally just put up with Phillies 'finest'. I'm sure this review makes it obvious I'm industry, but man, these guys deserve the shout out no matter who the fuck is witnessing this expert class in skill. Best service. Best food. Their wings come in 2 sizes - small (7 wings) for $11.99 and large (14 wings) for $16.99. I got the small and my husband got the large and we also split an order of fries. We both got their "hot" sauce on the wings. The wings were really good! They kind of remind me of rotisserie chicken because they are really moist and tender. The buffalo sauce is ok. It tastes kind of like Parmesan a bit though, which I'm not really on board for. But anyway, they were still tasty! They were also pretty big! I also appreciated that they gave us about a 50/50 ratio of drumsticks to flappers! The fries were also good! They could have used more salt though. Overall, I really liked our meal!
