I've actually had CAVA before, but it had been a few years since the last time I went, so I was excited to try it again. I got arugula and brown rice as my base with harissa honey chicken, tzatziki and hummus, plus corn, pickled onions, pita crisps, pita chips on the side, and the yogurt dill sauce. Everything mixed together so well and had a really good balance of flavors and texture. The harissa honey chicken had a really good sweet and spicy flavor without being too overpowering. For my drink, I mixed the blueberry lavender drink with lemonade and it was SO good and refreshing. My mom got the garlic dressing on her bowl and I highly recommend trying it because it was really flavorful and paired well with everything. I'm a first timer! I was looking forward to visiting CAVA. I've heard so much about it. And who does not love watching someone build your own bowl? I know I sure do. When we walked in there was hardly no one in the place. But very quickly it filled up. That is a good sign for sure. I decided to get the build a bowl. CAVA's build-your-own concept only works if the basics are nailed, so they need to slice avocado for even mixing, toast each pita fresh before assembly, and check orders for warmth and proper prep. Why didn't anyone tell me about Cava? So I recently saw an online post about Cava, it mentioned something similar to what I said in my earlier sentence so I was very intrigued to try it. I'm going to be honest, I don't really like Cava. I know it's healthier which is good, but sometimes the rice is hard and sometimes the employees that give you the food, almost like limit how much they give you in the bowl. It nice inside, clean for the most part. Another thing I didn't like though was that they changed the kids meal for the pita to be 1/4 of a full pita rather than 2/4 of a full pita and now you only get pita chip or the fourth of the pita. Cava, I heard of it but recently was told to go and check it out. I went to the location in North Dale. It's differently a busy location and it smelled good in there. I got build you own bowl. My order taker explained everything very thoroughly. My bowl was so good with chicken and braised lamb with brown, cucumbers, tomatoes, eggplant hummus, feta, tzatziki, and dressing. I am finally ready to share the secret, since everyone knows now anyway. CAVA is amazing! It's a Mediterranean-style build-your-own bowl or pita counter service restaurant. It's kind of like Chipotle if Chipotle was healthier and not Mexican. You choose your vessel: either a bowl or a pita. Pick a base, like rice or lettuce, or a combination. (I recommend the arugula). Then you choose your "main". I recommend a combination of the chicken & falafel. I found the steak gets a little dry. Maybe it would be better if you got there when they open. But, if you must get steak, add hummus at the next step to beef up the moisture. (Pun intended.) The next step is the toppings. It's a Greek place so there will be olives recommended. I prefer the tomato-cucumber blend. Cucumbers are excellent, Persian variety. The tomatoes are halved grape tomatoes. Pro Tip: If you get the blend, it's tossed with police oil & seasoning before being added to your bowl or pita. The hummus and feta (or "crazy feta") is also a must try topping. If it's too much to decide; just choose from among the "chef-curated bowls". I recommend the Greek Salad. read more

Omg! What have I been missing! A Mediterranean version of Chipotle...sign me up! It is definitely pricier than the average fast food/take out but the flavor are phenomenal. They have preset bowls and the option to build your own. Since this was my first time, I opted to try their Harissa Avocado bowl and it was very flavorful. This bowl included rice which was satisfying. The drinks were also really creative and I liked the flavor profile. The cucumber mint lime drink was even more refreshing that the blueberry lavender. I love that they have fountain soda, plus a few interesting tea options. They have combos that are "put together" or you can choose all/any ingredients you want. I was not in the mood for decisions, so I went with their spicy Harissa Avocado bowl with harissa honey chicken, feta, hummus, fire-roasted corn, avocado, pickled onions, cucumber, feta, and romaine lettuce instead of super greens. I added a fountain drink to my order and noticed that they only serve Maine Root sodas. I had the black cherry flavor and it was acceptable, just not my preferred taste. We were in line for over 25 minutes! I think the staff is still learning the items and refer to the ingredient cards which takes a bit longer. So be prepared for the line to move slow. I think next time I'll order online for pickup. This is the only reason I removed a star. I got the Greek Chicken pita with a side of pita chips. Hubs got the Chicken and RightRice bowl.
