    Wednesday night fish fry
    Lori G.

Love Caulfields. My husband had the Wednesday night fish fry. The fish was flaky and moist with a crunchy breading. I ordered the salmon which is served over puréed cauliflower. Both meals were absolutely top-notch. Their drinks are fantastic also.

First time at Caulfields. This is a perfect date night/ girls night place. Separate big bar area with great service and specialty drinks. Small twinkle lights and cozy atmosphere. I tried the ancho margarita and espresso martini. Both were very good! We all had the homemade cream of cauliflower soup tonight. The cordon Bleu pasta was flavorful and VERY rich, which was fine as I had leftovers the next night. One dining partner had the crab cakes, saying they were great- crispy coating and flavorful. Service was very good. Will be back to try more items. Note: we were here on a Wednesday which is half off wine night also!

4.5 overall This is a great new spot in the old Bennos space. It's stylish and comfortable on the inside with plenty of parking in back. The menu is a mix of small plates, boards and a few larger dishes. Prices are fair to reasonable and there's plenty to explore. I loved the shrimp canapé snack and the pickled veggies too. The mister had a very nice wild boar dish that came with homemade pasta. It needed salt but again, high quality. Good wine choices and interesting cocktails along with pleasant service means this one gets added to the rotation!

We came here on a whim for dinner. We didn't have a reservation, but were able to get in right away. Everything was really good. We had the special flatbread, sprouts, and the gnudi. It was plenty of food and we had leftovers. Service was really good too. I'd come back and try some other things

New to us space! They have been open since NYE, but we just found them tonight! Space is really warm and inviting. Also an outdoor patio in the back if you want to enjoy these nice summer nights. We both enjoyed wine and shared the pickled shrimp, crab cakes, and seasonal flatbread. Prices were fair and the service was kind and efficient. Water glasses were always full! Will definitely return.

    Duck Cordon Bleu Egg Rolls

Caulfield's is a new wine bar that recently opened in the former Benno's space in West Allis. While it is a wine bar, they also serve beer and cocktails, so there are options for those who don't drink wine. The space is completely remodeled and very clean and classy, while still keeping a casual feel. There is a wine list of reds, whites, and sparkling wines, with an option to buy a flight of four 3oz pours, so you can explore the wine list easier. The food menu is broken into Bar Snacks, Small Plates, Large Plates, and Sandwiches, with a handful of thoughtful and creative items in each section. My friend and I shared the fried Duck Cordon Bleu Eggrolls, featuring housemade duck ham with Swiss cheese in a wonton wrapper and served with a cranberry dijon dipping sauce. I ordered the Wild Boar Stroganoff with a ground wild boar ragout, creme fraiche, parmesan cheese, and handcut pasta, and my friend ordered tonight's Tuesday Night International special of Korean Fried Chicken with handcut fries. All three dishes were excellent, and we received excellent service from Gabby! I also ordered a wine flight, which i enjoyed, and I like that they offer this option to try more wines! I will definitely be back, and I recommend you check this place out, which is a sister restaurant to Camino, which is another great place!

As a long time Benno's customer, I was excited to see what new ownership did with the existing space. Located on bustling Greenfield Avenue, I appreciated the website noting there a was parking in the back. Better yet, you don't have to walk all the way around the block to the front door-there's an entrance (and a cute little patio) in back! We made a reservation but quickly saw there was no need-the dining area was completely empty on a Saturday evening. We were greeted promptly by our waitress. I tried a lovely Slovenian white wine, bf had an Old Fashioned-both were tasty! We thoroughly enjoyed our crab cake appetizer-full of crab & lightly fried. The cheeseboard left a lot to be desired: each small chunk of cheese was $7. It included a few nuts, some jam & honey. In the land of cheese I'd expect a more robust variety, especially at the price point. For our main, we chose the fried chicken dinner special. The chicken was juicy, flavorful, & crispy. The greens lacked depth, the grits were gluey. All in all, the service & wine selection would keep me coming back; perhaps to sit at the bar & enjoy an appetizer.

    Old fashioned

Went here with a girlfriend on a Saturday when they first opened at 1:00. We sat at the bar and were quickly served our drinks, I ordered an old fashioned, while my friend ordered the sangria. We knew what we wanted when we walked in, which was their Saturday fried chicken special served with greens, a biscuit and grits. While we waited for that to come out, around 20 minutes to make, we ordered a cheese plate and a bowl of soup. Once the apps were finished, we got our chicken, which was a huge portion of food. It could easily be split between two people. It was crispy and delicious. The biscuit was warm and moist and the grits were smooth and buttery. I don't eat greens, but my friend said they were amazing. We took leftovers home and I shared them with my neighbor, who said the chicken was nice and crispy. The place is lovely inside, clean and pretty spacious. I would definitely return to get more of their amazing dishes.

The floor to ceiling windows would provide a great view of the lake and on a return visit, I would come in earlier. Unfortunately I missed the view as I came in for a nightcap. Thankfully the space was decorated for the Halloween holiday and very festive. There is a nice variety of wine and cocktails on the menu. There is also some small bites available for purchase ie cheese and crackers. The cocktail menu is curated by an external consultant and changes seasonally but creative nonetheless. This meant I couldn't ask as many questions about how the cocktails were conceived or what they were planning for the upcoming season. There were definitely some that were combinations that I've not seen before! The staff were kind and engaging. I genuinely appreciated the company and conversation as a solo drinker.

There are tables and seating towards the front of the store and an event space upstairs. They have large coolers filled with individual bottles of beer, wine and other beverages. I was impressed by the variety I believe Uncorkt has something for everyone to indulge in. They also have a nice selection of snacks. I was a little underwhelmed with the customer service. There were two employees working and a couple of customers enjoying a bottle of wine when we arrived. None of the staff made eye contact with us or said hello. We browsed around a bit and when I picked a beverage I took it to the counter to ask about their process....do we pay then find a seat, do we start a tab, etc. The person that I spoke with informed me I had to pay for my beverage, and was very short with me when I asked clarification questions - I couldn't get a smile or laugh out of her. I'm sure masks make it hard to understand each other, but the whole interaction felt awkward and not very welcoming. Later a local family that this employee knew came in, and she was very nice warm to them, so I guess she just didn't want to warm up to me. My husband said the other employee was helpful & friendly. We enjoyed sitting by the window and watching the activity along the street while enjoying out beverages, and I would return.

The waitstaff will walk you through how that works your first time. We started with some of the taste & share plates - showing off WI cheese to the out of towners - and then a few people shared some gnocchi and beef tartare while a couple people got burgers. We had maybe 4 bites leftover, and no room for dessert, it was a personal victory. I'm sad I didn't get photos because I love the feel of each unique area that's here. The restaurant is bigger than you think because it's subdivided into smaller rooms. We had a group of 7 for a work event (which meant I kept my phone put away) and were in a cozy little nook in the back by ourselves, I'd never even noticed this little spot. What a fantastic time we had!

At that time we were easily seated in the main dining area, but there were quite a few full tables already seated. Our service was excellent and friendly, thanks to Elly. The main dining room is not large. It remains fairly cozy and seating spills over to high top tables in the liquor store area, but no one was seated there during our visit. We started with the twin mushroom handpies - Local Mushroom Duxelles, Shredded Saxony and Montamoré, Sherry Syrup, Thyme Almond Gremolata. They took a long time to come out from the kitchen, which was understandable since they were baked in house, but they were still a little raw on top. Nonetheless, they were the best bite I had all evening. I had the Root Vegetable Agnolotti - Black Garlic Pasta, Sweet Potato And Ricotta, Celery Root Soubise, Toasted pine Nuts, Crispy Parsnip and Sage, Basil Oil. It was interesting and I enjoyed trying it, but I wasn't blown away. The sauce was thick and the filling was similar in texture and the overall effect was kind of muddy and smushy. It was helped by all the toppings, but this wasn't a home run. BF had the Tuesday burger special, in this case a Bacon Barbecue - Prime beef, coffee BBQ, crispy onion strings. He enjoyed it quite a bit and said the barbecue sauce was not too overwhelming. It was a big burger and quite filling. I had a Manhattan and a glass of wine - both of which were very good. They offer up a celebration dessert - an unbaked cheesecake slice with chocolate sauce and cherries. It was a nice light bite to end the dinner and we enjoyed it. I will say that I find their pricing to be somewhat aggressive. Several of their appetizers, sharables and sides are priced like main dishes and their main dishes are priced as if this were a high-end steak house instead of a more casual eatery. My pasta was fairly good, but more than a steak at comparable restaurants at $33. It was not THAT good.
