I have been debating over the last day or two what rating I should give this place. New owners took over about six months ago, I think, and it is obvious they have a lot of pride. There are about 12 different hotel "rooms", many with an outdoor pet door where your cat can safely get closer to nature in a wired enclosure. Of course, those rooms that do not have the outdoor access are about $5 cheaper per day. Special services include extending daily grooming, playing or sending you a photo every day while you are away. All, about $5 extra. High quality sandbox sand is used and changed daily, according to the owner. The doors to each room are wired, so the cats can see and smell each other from across the hallway. Some other places have solid doors that close which doesn't let fresh air in. Each room is also "cat-a-fied" with climbing shelves so the cats can be at the top of the room which they love so much. On staff, is a wonderful young lady (sorry! I forgot her name!) who absolutely adores these feline creatures. All of this we learned when we previewed the place before bringing our cat here. We came back from our trip Sunday night. But because the Cats Cradle is closed Sunday, we had to pick-up our cat on Monday morning. Most places are closed on Sunday, so I have no problem with that. The part I *do* have a problem with (and hence why I could not give this a "5" rating that I really wanted to.....) is their billing. Every place I have every taken my cat give you a "check-out time", much as a hotel does for people. Other places -- which I think is FAIR -- give you a time to pick-up your pet (typically around noon), otherwise you will be charged another day. That makes sense. Get there early, and get your pet. Nope......... not here. Because your cat is "on site" this next day, you are charge a FULL DAY's RENT. I think this is grossly unfair and simply not right! Because they are closed Sundays (let's face it, most people are going to be gone the weekend and come back Sunday before they have to go to work on Monday!), you are essentially paying an EXTRA DAY. THIS IS NOT RIGHT. Because of this I am torn about coming back here again. There ARE other options that will not charge the extra day. Sounds like a money-grab to me........ There are other places we also visited that we may use instead next time, just for this reason alone. read more

They were very attentive toward making sure my cat had exactly what he needed, making it easy for me to not worry while I was gone. I brought my cat here to stay for a few days as it is just down the street and my vet recommended them. They only board cats, which is what really drew me to them. The women who run it are wonderful, absolutely lovely in every way. They have two forms you can fill out beforehand that are on their website, or you can fill them out there. They opened just last year I believe and right now they only take cash or check. The new billing day doesn't start until noon, so if you have to leave your cat overnight after they have closed you don't have to worry about being charged again. It is cheap, and they give free "massages" to the cats. They also have cat beds that my cat actually slept in, despite the many cat beds I have bought for him. The area they keep the cats in are huge, and if you have a cat you let outside I believe they have a special area so they can go outside but they are still contained. My cat is indoor only so I can't be 100% certain. They facility is clean and organized and you can tell they really do love cats, they take in homeless cats and make sure they are fed and healthy. They also have a cat there named "Will Feral" so if anything that should sell you on the idea of boarding your cat here. Most people don't think to board their cats but my cat needs medication and supervision, and this really set my mind at ease while I was out of town. read more

Highly recommended! Wonderful facility and great staff! This is a small owner-operated business. They know our cat by name and give her lots of love and care during each visit. The rooms for the cats are large individual spaces with a window, lots of room to move around, shelves and levels to climb and even a tree with scratching rope on it. The building itself is on a quaint wooded lot so the cats can see trees, birds, and other nature out the windows. The facility is always very clean. The staff are always friendly with me and the management is very accommodating about pick up and drop off times (within their posted business hours and policies, etc.). We have been using Cats Cradle for years. The new owners kept doing all the stuff we liked before and added new stuff like accepting credit cards and the option to get a photo of our cat via e-mail while she is boarded. If we were writing this review based on our first experience here, we would definitely give it a 5. The fact that our first experience was pleasant is the only reason this place gets 2 stars instead of 1. Though we cannot argue that the facility is nicely constructed, I would not recommend this place to anyone who is seeking great customer service. We received a nasty email from the owner, Laura, after we had to change our plans due to Hurricane Florence. Instead of being understanding that the change in plans was beyond our control, she became vengeful that she lost money for two days. She wrote an email to us (very rudely with a lot of words in all capital letters) telling us that if we were to keep our reservation, we would have to pay for two extra days at a "goodwill" reduced price even though our cats weren't at the boarding facility for those days. Since there was not enough time to find another place to board our cats, we were forced to continue the reservation with Cat's Cradle. Upon arrival, we were informed that our cat's vet records were lost. Instead of taking responsibility for their part in the mixup, it was blamed on a worker who was no longer there. This was ironic to us as we received amazing customer service from this former coworker, Katie. When we came to pick up our cats after our vacation, the same woman, Holly, who thought that professionalism entailed bad-talking former employees, refused to give us the senior discount. Let me be clear-the owner and the person paying for the cats is a senior citizen. But this company seems so pre-occupied with making money that they actually attempted to start an argument with us in the lobby so we would have to pay full price. We left there paying for two days we didn't actually get, with conflicting stories on all of their policies, with no discount to which we were entitled, and a very bad taste in our mouths. Don't be fooled by the nice exterior of this place. A successful and professional business runs on more than just the cosmetic aspects. Just as Holly shrugged off the comment when we said that we would not be using her facility again, it is very clear that they do not care about providing the best service possible. Please look elsewhere when considering where to board your fur babies. read more

Super rude and difficult staff. I left my 2 cats there and paid extra for 1 of the cats to have special feedings ... They confused the cats and gave the wrong one special feedings. Our trip ended a day early, so I called the kennel and let them know I would be there early to pick up the cats. They refused to reimburse me for the extra day and made me drive to a random gas station to get cash since they don't take debit card. This place isn't cheap and I didn't pay extra to be treated like this. read more

The owner and the manager and other staff clearly put the care of cats first and foremost, and they are always willing to go the extra mile to make sure the cats are well cared for. The place is beautiful, spacious and very clean. My cat is a 14 month old calico female that has never been boarded before. This was a first for the cat and for myself. The two ladies working there are very nice and friendly and I was pleased with the place and the people. My only complaint is that they seem to struggle with the billing part. I visited the place (loved it) and I paid in full for a 12 day reservation (regular size kennel) on May 12. My reservation was for June 22 -July 03. I paid $244.00 (20/day + $4.00 litter fee). Three weeks after I paid I received a call from them telling me that they can not hold my reservation for June unless I pay half of it upfront. I told them that I paid in full with a check and that the check has cleared the bank the next day. She was very nice on the phone and told me she will look for that payment. A day before I had to drop off the cat I called to find the best time for bringing the cat in and I was asked to bring the check # for my payment because they still could not find my check. That scared me because I had no time to make other arrangements for boarding the cat with a such short notice if they canceled my reservation. Fortunately, that was not necessary and I was assured that my reservation was still good. Next day I brought in the cat and a copy after my bank statement showing the cashed check (front and back), but I made the mistake and did not bring any food. I didn't noticed that on their website, so I thought food was included. I brought the bedding and the toys but not the food. I asked if she wanted me to go and get some food, but she told me not to worry that they had two other cats with Science Hill brand food and that she will find her some food for a small charge. I said "great!" and everything was set. On July 03 I picked up the cat. I knew there will be an extra charge for the food, but when she told me I own $15.00 I thought that can't be right. She showed me the receipt with calculations of my bill and the extra charges, starting up with: "12 days× $20/day= $152.00" then she took $144.00 (paid amount) out of the $152.00 "152.00-144.00=8.00" then added $4.00 for litter fee and $3.60 for food but told me she give me a $4.00 credit for "transfer fee". I asked what's a transfer fee, and was told they charge when they have to move a cat from the kennel to overflow, but since they didn't had to move my cat into the overflow they give me a "credit". So she added and subtracted and came up with $15.00 balance. No matter how many times you add a 20 will never end with a 2. I could tell she was confused about those charges, so I told her (very civilized) that $20.00/day for 12 days = $240.00. I paid $244.00 so the extra $4.00 was for the litter fee (initially I thought that was a tax), so my only remained balance should be the cat food. She was not happy with me correcting her on the charges and seem irritated. She sent me to get the cat from the kennel and when I came back she give me a receipt with a $3.60 balance and told me "this will make you happy", it almost sounded like she did me a favour and she was giving me something for free that I should be thankful for it. I did not like that at all ! Instead of apologizing for making a mistake on simple math she make it sound like she would be the bigger person and just not charge me for something. Everyone makes mistakes, but they don't admit their mistakes. If I would paid cash and throw away the receipt what would I do if I couldn't prove that I paid? They are running a business and they need to get better organize with the money, because it puts the customer in a very uncomfortable situation. I like the place, and I like the 2 ladies working there but I was uncomfortable with the money keep being brought up when it should be an easy go. I believe my cat was kept well and clean. Everybody said she was very sweet. It's hard to say how happy she was because I think she was depress. She lost weight in the 12 days she was there. I don't believe it was the place, I think it was because she has never been boarded before and she was scared in a new place without her family. She weighted 12 pounds 4 days before she was boarded (my vet weighted her), while the day I pick her up she weighted 11.3 pounds ( that's 8% of her body weight lost in two weeks, and since the cat can't talk that says something). I was worry that she will be depress for her first time but I'm sure she will get better in the future. Again, I don't think it's the place, I think it was the cat. I would like to use this place again because they are good with cats, but I don't want to be put in embarrassing situations about the money again. I hope they can take my review with a professional approach and not hold it against me. I'll try them again next time because it is a nice place for the cat, and I'm hoping they will not be "forever booked" for me because of my review. Time will tell...... read more

You can tell there is a love of cats here. All of their needs are accounted for. I love that we are allowed to bring personal items so my kitty feels some home away from home. My cat seemed happy and relaxed here, and the women seemed to take the time to get to know my cat, and talk to him. He seemed relaxed and content when I picked him up after an extended stay. I will definitely use Cats Cradle for my cat's boarding needs! read more

Cat's Cradle was a huge blessing to us as we quickly had to evacuate Wilmington for Hurricane Florence. We looked at, visited, and even boarded at other places in Charlotte until finding this perfect place for our cats. Our cats don't do well with dogs and don't do well with loud noises - within minutes of getting our cats here, they began to return to their more normal selves. The suites are amazing, providing multi-tiered areas, a window to look out, a climbing tree and even access to a small outdoor fenced-in area. The suite easily fit our three cats, allowing them to be together and providing them a level of comfort we couldn't find anywhere else. The staff is easy to work with and strives to accommodate. They truly love cats, as this environment couldn't be created by somebody other than a cat lover. This is a true gem in Charlotte, and, if we ever have to evacuate another hurricane, will make our decision easy. My only complaint is that there isn't one in Wilmington. This boarding service went far beyond my expectations. I have boarded my cat at the vet with horrible result, so I was very hesitant to board him again, but he needed daily breathing treatment. The ladies at Cats Cradle were very attentive, gave him cat beds and a bed tepee to make him feel comfortable, and made sure he got his meds every day. I will not hesitate to go out of town again since I have great boarding service for my special needs Siamese boy. Their set up is not cages, but individual rooms for our cat's needs and I just cannot say enough good things about them. The price is about what I paid at the vet but at least he didn't come home sick and/or traumatized! My only complaint is they would like to have feline leukemia vaccines which is questionable for most cats as to whether it does more harm than good, and is specifically bad for an asthmatic cat whose immune system is compromised already. read more
