I stopped in the store to check out some new winter arrivals. I asked the sales woman if the location was closing because I heard that it was and was generally curious as I shop there frequently. Mind you, she's stuffing her face while on the sales floor and could not be bothered. The sales woman proceeds to respond in an unsavory manner and then turned to her colleague and muttered something along the lines of "I hate when people ask these questions. Why does it matter to you anyway? Just mind your business". This socially inept crass individual lacks customer service skills and should not be the face for the store. The homeless man eating a hash brown and hanging out was more polite and accommodating than she was and therefore I will not be shopping at this location. Not sure how this location will stay afloat with such rude and ignorant people working there but if I was the owner I would invest in more friendly associates. read more

I needed some new gloves, so I stopped by and had an easy shopping experience with them. They greeted me as I came in and offered their help, which I accepted and they showed me all their different glove offerings. They let me try on the ones that stood out to me, and I was able to figure out which seemed best. Price was reasonable, and I was in and out in less than 10 minutes, most of which was me just looking and thinking. Will be back for sure! read more

The staff is generally nice and helpful and they have a nice selection. The return policy is pretty poor though. No refunds, and if you don't spend your credit within a year, they just keep your money and you get nothing. read more

This shop has tons of Carhartt, Dickies, Pendleton and other workwear stuff for a very fair price (probably the same you would pay for at a thrift store tbh). my buddy who lives in greenpoint took me to catos army and navy store in the area and i was surpised by the variety of casual and sporty wear is available. i was expecting camouflage patterns all over the shop , but its much more then that as they carry many durable name brands like wrangler, dickies, etc. from pants , shirts , jackets , hats, caps, shorts , footware. carry on bags , acessories ,and much more and all priced reasonable. everything is in plain view and if you dont see it, just ask one of the workers and they might have it, as it was the case for me for my relax fit cargo pants .what was just a tag along trip with a friend , turned into a 220 dollar purchase for me and i aint mad at all. the name of the shop can be a bit misleading but once you walk in , its easy to understand. 4 stars on my yelp meter. read more

The store is very well organized, clean, all merchandise well displayed. The young man who helped me get my shirts was. Very courteous and professional, excellent customer service. The Best part is they literally have anything and everything you could want for All Stand. From Jackets to shirts, socks, military gear, gear bags, tons of Great merchandise. This place is awesome. We randomly walked in because they had some cool Greenpoint shirts in the windows. Don't let the name fool you - they sell a lot more than just army/navy clothes. Though of course, they do sell things like paracord bracelets, pins, and fatigues. They sell a lot of patterned shirts and shorts, the kind that are super in vogue right now. Prices are reasonable, and they have a 30% off shirt rack by the front and special deals on shorts in the back. Staff is super friendly, and they give out free lollipops! read more

***News Flash*** The store clerks here (in Williamsburg no less) have actually heard of Customer Service!!! It's amazing! They are helpful, knowledgeable and down right pleasant. New York is so effing cold! After cruising the Land's End website for a ridiculous amount of time I decided, "Screw this I'm gonna get a navy issue pea coat for a third of the price of bougie Land's End coats" . I ended up getting a satin olive green ghetto-fabulous parka because, they're were no medium size pea coats. I'd give them 5 stars except the size selection is geared more for men. read more

I love Army Navy stores because they don't sell you frills. They sell you back-to-basics top-quality products that will do what they are designed to do. Naturally, I wanted to make sure I was prepared for the cold winter weather already beginning to creep up in November. I looked up a couple places in Manhattan that might have a good selection of quality pea coats, but I decided I'd give the shop down the street a chance. The store isn't huge, but it's stacked with stuff. I think they also have a fairly sizeable backstock as well. They carried a number of fairly reputable pea coat brands from the infamous Alpha Industries (known for great bomber jackets as well) to more premium brands like Schott NYC. The staff is friendly and helpful, and I managed to get exactly what I wanted, despite being somewhat prepared for disappointment by a small neighborhood shop. I'll definitely be back to this place. An Army & Navy Brooklyn can be proud to call its own, Cato's has a neatly arranged, well-stocked selection of trad military surplus style stuff, work clothes, and "regular guy" shirts and jeans. Their prices are just a tiny bit higher than Dave's in New York, and they can't compete with them in terms of sheer inventory, but (likely 'cause they're in Greenpoint and cater to a hipster clientele) they seem to have a larger selection of more interesting "fashionable" stuff, like neat western shirts, Levi's sherpa jackets, bomber jackets and the like. My 200th review goes to Cato's Army & Navy Store! Whooohooo! Alright, so the past week I've been looking for an army navy store mainly to get a new military cap. I use to go to the one in SoHo but I didn't realize that store closed for quite some time now. I felt like an idiot walking up and down Broadway looking for it in the pouring rain. But anyway, as for Cato's Army&Navy, they're pretty good here. I like their location. It's not far from the train station and its on a busy street. What I like even more about Cato's is their service. The moment I walked in, the nice chick behind the counter was ready to help me find what I was lookin for. I tried on a few cap sizes and also asked her for her opinion and she was very cool about it. I usually get dumbasses who are completely useless at what they do in Greenpoint but over here at Cato's they know what they're doin even if its just selling Army Navy stuff. The dude behind the register was very friendly as well. As for their selection of clothing and accessories, they have a decent spread jeans, camo pants, boots, and more. The prices here are fair, the store is clean, and there's good lighting in here. Parking in this part of Manhattan Ave isn't that bad compared to the other end. For future Army & Navy type of purchases, I'm coming to Cato's! read more

There aren't a lot of men's stores around so it is so wonderful to have a store like Cato's to buy gifts for the men in my life (husband and dad) without resorting to big box stores. Ok store but after spending hundreds of dollars there I needed to return a jacket (too big) and the store wouldn't give me a refund. They offered credit store only. Ridiculous. Any decent company that values their customers guarantees refunds and satisfaction. This guy obviously is only after your money. I was a loyal customer and as one I should have the courtesy to be able to return an item that does not work for me. This store is a no go. Horrible policy and customer service. read more

I was looking around for a good sturdy duffle bag. Of course you won't find such an item at a big box store or small NYC boutique. You could try the 99 cent discount stores or the guys on the corner with the $5 umbrellas; and most of us can attest to how long that stuff lasts. However if you want quality head to an army/navy store. There are a handful throughout the city and outer boroughs. Most tend to be over priced and some even feel like a boutique...(really?!? army surplus chique? c'mon...). Anyhoo... I headed up to greenpoint not really expecting too much. I had been past Cato's dozens of times, but never really went in. It looked small and I wasn't too hopeful about the selection. Furthermore being in the epicenter of hipsterville I was thinking that the prices would be more geared toward the yuppie-in-training crowd. As i walked in I was greeted by the man behind the counter... not a used car salesmen, i want to sell you everything and eat your soul kind greeting, but a genuine can I actually HELP you greeting. Being an optimistic cynic i decided to see if that seemingly honest greeting was backed up by action... sure enough, my got was right. Not only was he quite helpful, but also knowledgeable... a rarity in many business these days, retail or otherwise. Although i did not see the particular bag i was looking for on display, he readily had not only the particular one i was looking for but another variation of what i was looking for. The aforementioned lack of selection was deceptive. After I had picked out my bag I did some subsequent browsing, They guy even stated If what you want is not on display, chances are they have it. When it came time to cash out, I was absolutely amazed at the price; literally it was half as much as other stores... the exact same thing. Great service, Great prices, and a selection as good as anyone else. I cannot recommend another army/navy store higher than Cato's P.S. For those of you who are pro working class and/or fair trade minded, Cato's, according to the counterman i spoke with, will soon be dedicating a corner of the store to items made in the U.S.A.. read more

This store is fantastic....The owners are a very nice couple who go out of their way to help and accommodate you...I spent $300 & bought my fiance 5 pairs of shorts, 2 khaki slacks, 1 pair of jeans,(2) t-shirts & (2) 3-pack's of wife beaters. If you ever want to feel love only your momma can give you in the form of customer service this is definitely the place to go. I stopped by this Sunday to buy a bag for my trip to California and not only did I come out with a bag at a price that's more than half the price of Brooklyn Industries next door but got hooked up with all the essentials. Undershirts, underwear, Levi's, flannels, and pretty much everything I need from a store clumped up into this one place. These are the nicest people on the avenue by far. I decided to try on a coat and the young gentleman even helped me try it on. They even have higher end stuff like Pendleton shirt and Thorogood boots at prices way cheaper than Greenpoint or the Hipster Heartland (I'm talking about you Willy B) Where do you get service like that anymore?!
