Ordered the shrimp chicken breast asparagus which I didn't realize was only topped with asparagus. No real side comes with this. So you're paying for chicken and shrimp. Found this place on Uber Eats. I was starving in a hotel room during Covid while visiting the area. Restaurant selections are super slim right now, so I was excited when I saw pictures of this place. I thought it would be too good to be true, but it definitely lived up to the reviews! I'm not doing 5 stars because I was underwhelmed by the banana pudding cake, which wasn't bad just not what I expected. but I don't want to waste time on that. The food made up for it! The Cajun seafood macaroni was THE BEST! No exaggeration. They give you so much and I'll admit that I ate it all, not in one sitting-RELAX-but I ate it all throughout the night. I'm seriously upset that I didn't order a variety of items from the menu since I don't know when I'll be back in St Louis. Anyways! The dish had shrimp and lots of it. Cheese- lots of it. There were fried shrimp on top and the way that shrimp was seasoned took the dish to another level. I'll be searching for this dish again, but I'm certain it can't be replicated. This was my first time to Cathy's Kitchen and I enjoyed my visit there. You have to park on the back or side, but you can come in through the back also. You walk in and they will seat you or you can seat yourself, you get to see the cooks, right there from your seat preparing your food and everyone else s. I will tell you they have separate menu in the morning time 8 a.m. to 10:50 a.m. is the breakfast time and then they have lunch or dinner menu at 11 am. I love watching the cook while he cooks the food. The facility is clean and nice, can get a bit crowded at lunch and noisy, but you can still hold a conversation while enjoying your meal there. The places look s nice and they have a TV you can watch while sitting at the bar, I like that! Better than just looking at four walls like some places, you can watch the cooks or TV while at that bar and still conversation with each other or make a new friend. I do know they take credit cards, and they have a nice wine and beer selection also. They tend to try and create cuisines based on cities of the U.S. they represent different cities like New Mexico Texas, St Louis, Chicago, New Orleans, Memphis and prepare that particular locations popular cuisine. You gotta try Cathy's Kitchen when you come in the Ferguson area, you can smell the sweet aromas if the fish and other foods cooking when you walk through the door and try the fries. Everything smells good like a kitchen should! I got a chance to meet Cathy and her husband and they are really down to earth people, I really enjoyed the food. I enjoyed my tri fish sandwiche which comes with three tyoes of ish with cole slaw, onions and tarter sauce. Those Honey and Lime chicken wings were awesome even though that was a little complaint that they were small, I like my chicken wings small with tons of flavor at least that way I feel like they're not loaded with hormones All in all, I will be going to Cathys Kitchen more now that I had a chance to visit. I ordered through DoorDash and the only bad part about that is I couldn't select a seasoning for both the shrimp and the wings. The shrimp are huge and cooked perfectly. The skin on sweet and spicy wings was a little too soft for my liking but I ordered through DoorDash so that could have been due to the travel time. Good honest food for a good price. The staff was friendly and attentive. The food was flavorful. Highly recommend The Gabby (2 pancakes & 2 fried chicken wings). It was the perfect mix of sweet and salty. There's an old fashioned diner feel...black and white tile floor, a mix of booths and 4-top tables. I really wanted this to be a good review. I will give them one more try and update if things change. As we walked to the backdoor crossing paths with who I assumed at the time was a cook/dishwasher?, we were warned that it would be a 45 minute wait. I'd heard about quite a few people supporting Cathy's following Ferguson and wanted to do the same. It was a Friday night, so a wait wouldn't be a big deal because everything else would be good- MISTAKE. The floors were terribly greasy and slippery walking in. I noticed there was trash on the floor and a table that had not yet been cleared. This place is pretty grimy, but those are usually the holes in the wall with the best food - so whatevs. There seemed to be one cook working and two servers/cashiers. We walked up to the counter and the cashier/waitress looked as confused as we were. Eventually she directed us to take a seat. The table was sticky and the condiments were visibly dirty. The waitress gave us foam fountain cups without us ordering and did not instruct us on self service. She did tell us that there would be a wait - no problem. My husband ordered unsweetened tea and needed sweetener. None of the dirty containers had packets. We placed an order for the Friday special (fried catfish nuggets, shrimp, and chicken wings) as an appetizer, we order the shrimp and grits, a burger, and a fried shrimp po' boy. Over the next hour, we end up ordering 3 separate times, as they no longer had the ingredients for shrimp and grits or seafood mac & cheese and the seafood fryer is down. We end up ordering the Memphis burger, chicken breast with spinach cheese and bacon, red beans and rice, grilled catfish tacos, and a grilled shrimp po' boy. Memphis burger: This was the best thing we ordered. The pulled pork was smoked nicely and the BBQ sauce was nice. Chicken breast with spinach cheese and bacon: This was tasty, but was not "simmered in wine" as described on the menu. It was steamed on the grill and the spinach was basically raw. Think tasty open face sandwich - definitely not what I had in mind. Red beans & rice: I don't know what can these beans came out, but they can go back. No seasoning. Weird turkey bones. I ate two bites and left them alone. Terrrrrrible. Popeyes drive through red beans and rice are a hundred times better. Grilled shrimp po' boy: Second runner up in this unfortunate line-up. The bread was stale-ish? Tasty sauce and nice sized shrimp. Grilled catfish tacos: The waitress forgot these and brought them with our bill. She packed them up and they still haven't been eaten. The waitress was very apologetic, but we still ended up with a nice bill for food we didn't really enjoy or eat. ALSO - my hair ended up smelling like fried chicken grease after sitting in there for two hours. The ventilation must be terrible - YUCK! I plan on returning for one more try as this is a black-owned business, but if it was not I would not return. read more

Unfortunately having to order from a kiosk really ruined the experience for us. You go in and order your food, and sit & wait silently until someone calls your name and you bring your food to your table. The food tastes pretty good, although you will likely find very little to enjoy here if you don't like very very greasy/oily food (so greasy and oily that the grease manages to soak through styrofoam!!). All of this would be fine if the prices weren't so expensive - the three of us ordering three smaller entrees costed around $70. For that price we really would have liked to have been served by a real person. read more

The plate was enough to share but the coleslaw cup could have been slightly bigger. The coleslaw was delicious and I normally do not eat coleslaw. We also ordered the infamous shrimp and grits. I adore Cathy's Kitchen and get it every chance I get (they deliver through the food delivery apps). Their cajun seafood pasta is absolutely the best and I find myself craving it often. Their burgers are big, filling and delicious. The atmosphere inside the restaurant is pleasant and very old school but fun and it has a great vibe. Service is always good and pleasant. The restaurant smells good as soon as you come in. I love the smell of good cooking! The menu is massive and has so many choices. You can get your own refills, which is great because you never have to wait. I love that the menu is separated by Cathy's travel adventures and turned into a culinary gold mine of delicious dishes. Used Grub for delivery today. Gumbo was a 10 Shrimp and Grits was a 10 Chicken Wings were a 3 I think the wings mushed out during delivery in their styrofoam container, skin was pretty rubbery.
