One of the worst experiences I've had with a doctors office. My insurance will 100% cover a procedure and have told the office that they will (I was on the line with both the nurse named Alma and the insurance). But the nurse is saying that Dr. Marshal has a "Buy and Bill" policy. Meaning I would have to pay all of it upfront, wait for the insurance to cover it, and then the Dr. would pay me back.... Why should the patient pay anything out of pocket when the insurance is saying they will cover it 100%. What kind of operation is this??? I scheduled an appointment as a new patient. It was months out because I am new to her office. The doctor's office called me on 5/3/24, Friday, to cancel my appointment. My appointment was scheduled for 5/7/24-Tuesday first thing in the morning. I mentioned I had been waiting for months, and the call center rep had nothing to say. She then goes into my Scripps account and canceled the appointment stating "the Patient" was the reason. So unprofessional. No accountability. Her call center gave me two options the following week, as If I have no job. Nothing courteous about the call. Disgusting and careless behavior. Dr Marshall and her staff are the very best! I ended up finding her when I needed a surgery that I was definitely stressed out about. She and her office could not have been better throughout the whole process. Dr Marshall spends time with you simply discussing what is going on and what is entailed in any surgery or procedure that may be required. She is not on any sort of time table when she is with you. She will patiently sit and discuss any aspect or answer any questions you may have. If you are looking at surgery or are pregnant, this is the kind of doctor you want. It's the kind of doctor you want all the time but it's especially appreciated when you are dealing with something beyond a routine check up. The office staff are also incredible. The timing of my surgery was very tough for me work wise and they got me the exact surgery date that I was set on and that I felt I could best handle schedule wise. That really made a big difference for me in my stress levels and recuperation. All of the office staff are kind, efficient and personable. I also want to add that I had total confidence in Dr Marshall going into a surgery that I was nervous about. As soon as I checked in at the hospital the staff were singing her praises from the gown room all the way thru pre-op. If you have to have surgery it's nice to have total confidence in your doctor. I knew I had a challenging case but she pulled off the best case surgery and I know that's because she is highly skilled. I feel extremely lucky to have found her. read more

I highly doubt these positive reviews are from real people who were patients of Dr. Marshall. My experience with her was horrible. Her receptionist are extremely rude, and the day of my appointment with her, I could hear her yelling at someone on the phone before I was seen. When I finally was brought to the room and met her, she didn't know my name, got my age wrong and had no prior notes about why I was being seen by her and I know my PCP sent them to her. She was dismissive towards my concerns and rushed me out of her office. I came to see her about abnormal bleeding I was having from a polyp and she told me it was small and eventually would "fall out" and showed no concern about the discomfort it was causing me. Thank goodness I got a second opinion from another gynecologist who informed me my polyp was pretty big in size and needed to be removed to ensure it wasn't cancerous. I'm happy I chose to get advice from another physician as my experience with her and her office was horrendous. read more

She is terrible. I've seen her for 3-4 years and after every appointment I ask myself... why I'm sill seeing her. So I've left. Late. Ok Drs seem to run late. But it's not because she is spending time answering questions and giving her full attention and really trying to solve your problems--at least not with me! She's always in a hurry and annoyed and half listening. Last appt I had like 7 mins as she had to get to a surgery. Why schedule me then?? I'm not paying another copay to come back...to get a full respectable visit. She actually called me for some results and I had a few questions and she said!!..."I don't have time for this". Really?? Rude. Bad manners. And she should be ashamed of herself. And her front person is rude as well. Never again and I will not suggest her to anyone I know. My experience with Dr. Marshall was great but unfortunately the follow-up is awful. I had requested a mammogram and no one followed up to provide a courtesy call to briefly talk about my results. Luckily I was emailed that my results were complete. When I called the office, the receptionist mentioned that if I want to talk about results - a virtual appointment is required. That is absurd to me! I've always had a nurse or a doctor call me to briefly discuss my results. I had an appointment today and arrived on time. The lady at the desk told me that she was running a little late because she had a surgery. I found on my phone that she called the night before, which was great and well appreciated. My mistake for not checking the message machine. Anyway I appreciated the communication. She and her staff were very welcoming. I had to change doctors because I am on a new insurance plan. When I looked at the image, i had a sinking feeling, so after she gave us a sample of expensive birth control pills and set up an appointment to remove , the polyp, we decided to get a second opinion. I've been to Dr. Marshall since I moved here in 2005. At my first visit, she took me into her office for a sit down meet and greet sort of thing. I thought that was very cool. So, for the past few years, I've been fine going to here for my yearly exams. I'm now questioning if I want to continue going to her after my last exam. We are a couple of years away from wanting to start a family, but I'm in my 30s, so I'm a little nervous about it and wanted to start getting info on what I should do to prepare in advance. My doctor was at first like "it's no big deal, you have plenty of time...yada yada yada." Then, I told her how old I was and she was sort of changed her tune. She asked me what I was waiting for and if I wanted an amniocentesis. First off, I thought that was a little mean. Women should be able to plan when they want to have a family, even if it is a little later in life. Second off, how did she not check my birthdate before the exam to know how old I was?? So, if you are a woman that is not planning a pregnancy in your 30s or later, she's probably a good choice for an OBGYN. However, I'm probably going to look for a new doctor, one that is comfortable and familiar with "older" women and pregnancies. read more

I was referred to Dr. Catherine Marshall by my primary care physician, upon my request to see a gyn. I had been suffering with heavy menstrual cycles for almost a year and my PCP just chalked it up to peri-menopause. My gut was telling me there was more to that story. My 2012 New Year resolution was to commit to a healthier lifestyle and that meant doing all of my doctors appointments right at the beginning and addressing my growing list of concerns. So I started my New Years plan in December 2011. When I called Dr. Marshall's office a s a new patient, her nurse; Julie was courteous, efficient and most importantly had a sense of urgency. I was scheduled for an appointment immediately, and had a thorough explanation beforehand of what to expect. From the start, Dr. Marshall (and her staff) listened to my concerns, performed necessary tests, exams & biopsy, all the while with patience & consideration. She was empathetic, clear, and most importantly, made me feel like I was her most important patient of the day! Long story short, major surgery was required. The manner in which my surgery and the entire process was handled, was truly amazing. Everything was explained in a manner which my husband and I could easily comprehend. Dr. Marshall was/ is fantastic. I am looking forward to a long patient relationship and feel confident that our partnership will be great. My advise to any other patient, whether of Dr. Marshall's or someone else, Be Prepared. Before going to any appointment, I take a few moments to think about what I want out of the appointment and write a list of questions/ concern, so that I don't forget. I then explain to my doctor that I have a list. This list makes me feel like I am in charge of my health and I don't get flustered by a situation that I am not an expert in. In 2009, my insurance forced me to change doctors, including OB/GYN care and I was very upset. My PCP had been my OB/GYN and I was very satisfied with that. When I was referred to Dr. Marshall in 2009 by my new PCP, I wasn't please about having to change. We talked about it and she fully understood, but welcomed me into her practice. At my first visit, I found her to be very upfront and straight-forward in our communication, something I put a high premium on. She also showed me that I had fibroid tumors, something I had not been diagnosed with before. In the summer of 2010, I returned for my annual exam and with ultrasound, Dr. Marshall was able to determine that more fibroid tumors had developed and the initial tumor had increased in size dramatically. At 43 years old and childless by choice, I was hoping she would tell me I was a candidate for hysterectomy surgery. When we looked at my condition, Dr. Marshall said it was an option, but wanted me to be aware of other courses of treatment. She then carefully reviewed ALL options with me and suggested I take a little time to think about it. It was nice to know she isn't "surgery happy" and quick to put patients in that position. After discussing it with my husband, I opted for a vaginal hysterectomy, including the removal of the cervix, leaving the ovaries intact to minimize my need for hormone replacement therapy. I've just had my six-week post-op check up after having daVinci robotic surgery done by Dr. Marshall. I can not thank her enough for her excellent care! My surgery was a few hours at Scripps LaJolla hospital and, as expected, I spent one night in the hospital and was home the following evening. Dr. Marshall managed my expectations perfectly and I've been healing just as I thought I would. My surface incisions are fully healed and I have just a few very small scars, as opposed to the giant abdominal scar I remember my mother having years ago after her hysterectomy. My pain was well managed also. In the follow up appointments, she has taken the time and care to be sure I'm not only physically well, but emotionally well in the aftermath of the procedure. I went into my surgery with a great deal of confidence in Dr. Marshall and was not disappointed. I've found her to be very smart and a very capable surgeon, in addition to the normal OB/GYN care she's given me. I already feel better and after always worrying that I would accidentally get pregnant, I have a new sense of emotional relief. In addition, while all my medical challenges were happening I had to switch insurance AGAIN and her assistant Cinnamon patiently waded through all the bureaucracy to be sure I had no lapses in care. I strongly recommend Dr. Marshall, and honestly, if you're looking at possible hysterectomy surgery, see if daVinci surgery is an option. It makes it a much more bearable experience. read more

I am a 40 yr old with no kids and have been a patient of Dr. Marshall for years. I have moved all around SD and now drive 30 mins from North County to see her. Her office staff is kind and courteous and just got me in next day for an apt for an issue I was having. Dr. Marshall is extremely knowledgeable and never makes me feel like my apt is rushed and fully explains any answer to all my questions. I was referred to Dr. Marshall when I found out I had masses on my ovaries and needed a hysterectomy. Ovarian issues scare any menopausal woman. I am so thankful for the expedient and wonderful care I received from her staff and Dr Marshall. The surgical experience was amazing. I had the robotic surgery on Friday morning. Before I went to sleep friday night, the nursing staff let allowed me to do 3 laps around the floor. I had excellent pain managment. I went home the next day and rested. On Sunday I switched to Ibuprofen because I just didnt feel like I required anything stronger. I was a little bent over and cautious as my stomach felt like i had done too many sit ups. On Monday (3 days later), I am taking no medication. I am walking up right and am working at my computer. This is so amazing. If you need a hysterectomy, don't be afraid. I had a hysterectomy 4 years ago with Dr. Marshall, she performed the DaVinci robotic surgery, only leaving my ovaries. She is AWESOME! Back in October 2011 I missed my period. So being that the last time that I missed my period, we found out we were pregnant, we assumed that was the case again. When November came I started bleeding so we then went on believing that I just missed my period. I continued bleeding for an entire month, It was then I decided to take a trip to my Primary Physician Dr. Julie Son that told me that the bleeding was probably because of the recent weight gain that I had put on and sent me home stating, "Lose the weight and the bleeding should stop." So you can imagine that I went home feeling depressed and a little on the downside. I then went home and the bleeding proceeded for another three weeks. I was at work one day and was bleeding so bad that I was changing my ultra tampons every 30 minutes to an hour and was feeling fatigue and weak. I then left work and went to the ER. I was then admitted and an ultra sound and blood test were taken. They discovered a cyst that was 2.3 inches on the left ovary, apparently women create them all the time and they aren't cancerous. I was then sent home prescribed birth control and was told that taking the birth control would stop the bleeding. I went home and religiously took the pill, the bleeding did not cease and another month had passed of me bleeding. I was getting tired of bleeding and being Anemic it was affecting my overall productivity at work and at home. I then booked an appointment with my OBGYN Bhoomi Brahmbatt. As a patient I trusted her, being that she was excellent during my care while I was pregnant. After getting no answers or solutions from the Primary Physician and the ER Doctor, I felt like she could be the person who could give me answers. After paying thirty-five dollar co-pay and waiting for about 20-30 minutes to actually got see her, I was examined and told the exact same thing that the ER Doctor had said!!! I was furious but went about my way now bleeding for going on 9 weeks. In the beginning of January I was at work again and was now changing my Ultra tampon every 15-20 minutes, I was ultra drained and lethargic. I was desperate and went looking on-line for Gynecologists. After calling several different doctors and explaining my urgency to see them that day, and being told that I wouldn't be able to get in until mid February, you can imagine my loss of hope at that point then bleeding for exactly ten weeks with no explanation why. I finally scrolled and found Dr. Catherine Marshall. I called her office and explained my urgency to be seen to her Nurse Julie, and she scheduled me that very day. What a relief! I then came in and filled out my paper work and was seen by Dr. Marshall shortly after. Her bedside manor was very professional yet personal. She listened to everything that I had to say with no interruptions! When I was finished with my story and concerns, she then proceeded to explain what she believed it was and what we were going to do. She then took me to the examination room where she performed the same vaginal ultrasound that I received just a few weeks earlier. She turned the screen towards me and explained everything that she was seeing. She then discovered a huge mass that was in my uterus that had layers upon layers of tissue on it. She then went on to explain that it looked like an old miscarriage!!! It took four doctors, hundreds of ultra tampons, 6 doctors visits to find out that I had been having a miscarriage! She then prescribed me medication and gave me iron supplments on top of free samples to carry me until I received my prescriptions on top of sent me to the lab to get blood work. She explained to me that I would see a significant decrease in bleeding within the first day and by the third completely no bleeding. All of this happened like clockwork! She called me the very next day and explained that my blood count was so low that I may need to come in for the D and C as well as a blood transfusion. The bleeding had decreased and I opted out of coming in because her treatment was actually working the way she explained! I was even surprised she called me back, no Doctor has ever followed up with me like that. The bleeding ceased last Friday, just in time for me to host our Son's second birthday!! She then contacted me today and did a follow-up ultrasound to make sure the mass was completely gone and guess what it was! After 10 long weeks of bleeding getting the run around, I found Dr. Marshall who made it all better! I believe that she is an awesome physician who cares for her patients. I hope to continue to receive care with her and am forever grateful for her quick response to what could have been fatal in my case. I will never forget the treatment and care that I received from her and her staff. I highly recommend her to all my friends now! Thank You Dr. Marshall! read more

I let the doctor know I smoke cigarettes occasionally even though I used to take birth control. Bad time to let her know, right before the speculum went in. Dr. Marshall started lecturing me angrily about stopping smoking. Then she was very rough with my pap compared to previous times and it was so painful, I was tearing up and pleaded with her to stop. She insisted the procedure would be over soon, but that was not soon enough. After the appt, I felt slightly violated and cried in my car. Never went back. !!!! read more

I've been a patient for about 3 years or so. I called yesterday to explain I wanted to understand the process of getting some blood work done and proceed with an appointment and blood work. The woman on the phone became agitated that I wasn't calling to make only an appointment and even said something along the lines of... "well I don't know if they doctor will have time to call you, you'll just have to make an appointment." I was floored that I was just a payment and not a patient. Regardless I said I would run the risk and if the doctor was too busy to return my call I understood, but I would risk it. Got a voicemail back about putting in a prescription for birth control asking me to provide the prescription I wanted and the name of my pharmacy so it could be called in. First of all, aren't doctors required to provide a consultation before prescribing drugs? and secondly, that was not the reason for my call. I called back to explain once more why I was calling and Julie hung up on me. I hope calls are recorded. I even heard the phone slam down. I was never wow-ed by this office's customer service, but this is just immature behavior. It's very clear that Dr. Catharine's practice is doing great and doesn't need my business. She has zero bedside manner. I went to her for a few years and kept questioning why I was going to her. Every time I left her office, I just felt bad about myself. My very first appointment with her, she berated me about my weight and was trying to push 4 different pills on me. Keep in mind, it was my first Pap smear ever and now I have this doctor telling me that I'm morbidly obese and should take all of this medication. Then she diagnosed me with a medical condition by asking me 3 questions, she didn't even suggest having any blood work done. She was always so behind too. I would be waiting for 45 mins or more each visit only to be greeted by a doctor who was condescending and irritated. I'm now seeing a new OBGYN and she has opened my eyes to how you're supposed to be treated by a doctor. read more

To most professionals "I will waive the office visit" means exactly that, but to this one it simply means "I will try more creatively to charge you for that visit", I literally was charged $93 for a 10 minute STD test that I declined 2 months prior because she told me I could come back later when I felt I needed to take it and there would be no additional office visit fees. Now I am hearing from her office that 2 months is too long to wait - did she expect that I would be back a week later?! Why would I decline an STD test just to come all the way back sooner than 2 months? This office must be desperate for any way they can rob people for money. On top of this she dismissed the medical concerns I had as illegitimate and stayed for the minimum amount of time she could stay for my insurance to cover the visit and then shes trying to charge me for something she said she wouldn't charge me for. I am researching prosecuting her for malpractice because of this thievery and for misleading me by blatantly lying to me. I have responded to her bills by faxing letters and calls and she won't reply only just sending more bills, cowardly, lazy thieves. Karma will catch up to this office and not soon enough. IF YELP USED ALL REVIEWS OF THIS DOCTOR HER AVERAGE STAR RATING WOULD BE MUCH LOWER!! After this review, I scrolled down to see that an additional amount of people have also given her the lowest possible review, from pregnant women and other women who have felt judged by this doctor, I think they should use every review, not just the positive ones because this doctor is a quack and the sooner everyone knows this the better. read more

Dr. Marshall is amazing. She makes you feel very comfortable and is very friendly. I felt that she listened to my concerns, offered options and most importantly answered my questions so that I felt much more knowledgeable and comfortable in making decisions. I've had a lot of questions and fears that I never really expressed to my doctor because I was embarrassed or scared of the answer, but Dr. Marshall was just professional and understanding which made me feel that I could open up and ask questions. I have been one of Dr. Marshall's patients for a few years now, and have had nothing but positive experiences the entire time. Whenever I have an appt she is super friendly and welcoming, attentive and engaged. If you have questions or concerns she listens and is quick to suggest a solution that is best fit for YOU - whether it be reproductively related or general health and well being. About a year ago I was having a really tough time personally and was talking to her about how I can better manage my stress and overall health. She suggested I give Contrave a try (in addition to it psychiatric benefits, it also helps with weight management and was mildly overweight), and at first I was really unsure about whether or not it was right for me. Today I am almost 40 lbs lighter, much more relaxed and stable minded, and happier than I've been in a very long time. Dr. Marshall has been my OBGYN for 10 years now and I have nothing but positive reviews for her. I am 35 years old and just had my first chid. Dr. Marshall was fabulous when I came into her office for the pregnancy confirmation and OB referral. She referred me to two women physicians and I choose Dr L. Stanco which turned out to again be the best decision ever!!! If you are looking for a calm, laid back, educated/experinced OBGYN, Dr Marshall is the one! Dr Marshall has delivered babies along with being a mom herself. The only criticism would be for Dr Marshall's nurse. She is spacey at times and tends to be your "typical" mood swing women.
