Look, the headliner is usually someone that you've vaguely heard of and better than average.

If you care about getting a really good seat, definitely come early. We were able to get a table in the middle section but away from the flow of foot traffic. They have your standard bar food so don't expect to be blown away. Since they have a 2-item minimum per person, you might as well just try what catches your eye. We got the Brunswick Buffalo Wings which I enjoyed. They're on the smaller side, had a slight kick, but satisfying overall. These paired so well with their Factory Fries! I would suggest every table get a basket of these deliciously seasoned curly fries. They were hot, fresh, and addicting. Great to munch on throughout the show. The Beef Burger w Cheese was also decent but not too memorable. The Apple Pie is a skip for me. The staff was efficient and friendly. As soon as the show was over, we paid our bill and were out the door in maybe 5 minutes. I thought it would take much longer but they have a solid system in place! Great venue for a comedy show & light dinner!

Meanwhile doors opened at 10pm and the show started at 10:30pm. We were left to stand outside in 90 degrees and extreme humidity for that extra hour. Vinnie Brand the owner was outside saying he can't help it because of meet and greet with Adam Ray, but that is BS because he sells the meet and greet tickets on his website. However the show itself was great.

We were doing a girls night out and looking for dinner followed by entertainment. I thought a…read morecomedy club would be a good choice and was surprised to see via Google that there was a comedy spot in the NE since we didn't want to travel into center city. The Comedy Cabaret is a small venue attached to the Ramada Inn right on the Blvd near Woodhaven. We went on a Saturday night and it was 15.00/person with a 2 drink minimum. It's not so much of a club but rather a small room right off the hotel bar. The room holds maybe 75 people if it's full but it was a light crowd when we were there---maybe 30 people tops. The comedy itself was a mixed bag. There were maybe 7 or 8 comedians leading up to 2 headliners. Of those 7 or 8, half were good the other half, not so much. One was so bad it was painful. He had a series of one-liners that were supposed to be witty but all of his "jokes" were met with deafening silence. And the small audience was kind of unruly at times---talking amongst themselves, using phones---rude behavior that the performers to their credit, took in stride. Simplee Dee and Bill Chaing were the headliners that evening and both were really funny and they were really appreciative of people coming out to support live comedy. If you're looking for upscale, look elsewhere but we enjoyed the show well enough that we would return again.

Wowow.. been to Greenwich Village a few times to eat all the different food like Mamoun's, Pommes…read moreFrites, Artichoke, etc etc over the years but I've never caught a show at the Comedy Cellar. I reserved a spot online to avoid the hassle of not making the cut at the standby line. As a party of 1, I sat with another party of 1 and she was there to see Usama Siddiquee as well. What a coincidence! 2 item minimum and phones are put in a puffy mailer bag that you have on you until the rest of the show. Their beef yakitori skewers were juicy and tender! My cucumber gin drink was refreshing and not too strong. Each comedian that went up did such a great job with various styles of humor and experiences to share. I wasn't expecting a drop in but Marcello Hernandez from SNL went up and did some new material. God.. I love good surprises. Usama closed out the night strong and I was incredibly pleased with the show. Not gonna lie.. it was kismet that I got to shake their hands after their sets since my table was by the exit door. Def an evening I'll never forget!

Listen, I don't have to say much about this place. It's a staple. It's legendary. It's iconic. Been…read morecoming here for years, and it's never once been a bad time. Founded back in 1982 in a basement on MacDougal Street, and it's stayed almost exactly what it's always been: low ceilings, brick walls, candlelit tables packed close enough together that you're basically eavesdropping on the next table over whether you want to or not. Godfrey is a regular here, and he never fails to make me split my sides. He's been holding down rooms at this club for the better part of three decades at this point, and it shows every single time. Then there's the actual reason people fly in from out of town for this place: the surprise drop-ins. I got lucky and caught Kevin Hart doing a full 45-minute set for my friends visiting from out of town, completely unannounced. That's the magic of this room. Chappelle, Chris Rock, Seinfeld, half the biggest names in comedy have all quietly walked through that door to work out new material in front of a crowd that has no idea who's about to walk on stage next. Food and drinks are great, though pricey. Doesn't matter. You're paying for the room and the possibility of a night like that, and I'd happily pay triple just for the ticket alone with no food or drink involved. Only real knock: the door guys aren't especially friendly, and if you land on their bad side, they will kick you out, so tread carefully there. You also lock your phone away in a pouch the second you walk in, which sounds annoying and is actually the best part of the whole system, since it means the room is actually watching the show instead of filming it. Service moves fast and you barely notice them working around you. Just make sure you order everything you'll need up front, once the room gets going, they don't want anyone breaking the flow to flag down a waiter. A true New York institution, and worth every dollar.
