Friendly family farm business who raise and care for adorable goats. You can tell the farm is a true love of the owners. The goats are well taken care of and the place is always well groomed. Catapano is an excellent place to pick up fresh organic goat cheese (chèvre) and goat's milk products, such as soaps and lotions, on the North Fork. Their goat cheeses have won awards many times and once you try them you will understand why. The goat cheese is expensive but so worth it. There are many varieties of Chèvre from lemon pepper, chive, virgin olive oil, dill, garlic and herbs of rosemary thyme, to Feta goat cheese. On any sunny day there are always a few kids around to feed and pet. At 4pm you can watch them milk the goats in the barn on certain days. From every aspect the love definitely shows. Catapano was a lovely stop on our self-directed wine tour. The goat cheese is amazing, smooth, and creamy. The flavor isn't pungent and they have an assortment of blends with their fresh goat cheese as the base. I purchased a few for my own consumption and could've devoured more. My favorite was the lavender honey blend. Aside from cheese, they have an array of soaps and moisturizers made with a mix of goats milk and essential oils. The shop itself is tiny and cute and there was a newborn baby goat in the shop during our visit. She had the softest hair. The grounds are purposefully natural yet w a smattering of sunflowers, phlox,& purple sage. Pet the goats. Step over chickens. Tour the farm. The little shop is more than quaint and can be awkwardly crowded. If you are feeling down visit Catapano and their silly cute goats and you will leave with a smile. Always fun watching them in their playground and field, just like a bunch of kids, get it kids. Best of all there is no charge to view the goats and if you come at the right time you could watch them milk the happy goats for the goat cheese and other goat related products that they make and sell in the small shop. You could find their cheese all over the North Fork including many of the best restaurants. The owner Dr. Catapano even treated me for Lyme disease, only in the North Fork! Visitors can view the goat milking process, pet goats, and purchase goat artisan cheeses and goat milk beauty products. Loved it! My friend reccomended I stop there on my way to greenport with the kids. I live on the east end and theres always new little gems to explore. This one was great! I had both my kids with me (8 months and 4 years) the owner couldn't have been nicer! She even gave me a reccomendation for a great little beach down the rd- she was very helpful!!! I bought two cheeses that I am finally trying right now- habernero goat and honey goat- both incredibly delicious and dense. (Don't be fooled by the little containers- it goes a long way!) The most special part of the experience was playing with the goats. The owner let us hang with them for a while. There was one or two other people there- the goats are so sweet and friendly and we could have spent all day! It was an experience!!! read more

There is no comparison to the experience you have here! First off, you can see the cute little goats playing in their little habitat. They are sweet and will even lick you! I generally don't eat dairy due to animal cruelty in the dairy industry, but this family-run farm is the exception. Not only can you tell the animals are loved and cared for, you can taste it in the cheese. We had the plain Chevre and the ricotta, as well as a hard goat cheese and a hard sheep cheese. The place is a small farm that has a bunch of goats and chickens that are adorable! You're allowed to touch them even though they aren't in a petting zoo. The goats are friendly and very entertaining to watch while you snack on the goat milk treats. The stand is a bit small but very lovely. The woman at the register is very sweet as well and she knows her goat products! We did try a plain goat milk yogurt and realized it wasn't for us. It was extremely tart and had a very strong goat milk flavor. We couldn't get over that and ended up having to just quit after a few spoonfuls. There was a cheese platter sampler out and some of the cheese also had that strong taste but the ones that didn't were tasty. I do think anything made with goat milk is an acquired taste so don't judge the quality based on my personal taste and inability to handle the strong goat milk flavor. Catapano is the best. I've been here a few times, and I never get tired of seeing the goats and sampling the fresh goat cheese. Goat on a Boat! There are also a few horses and chickens. You cannot leave Catapano without buying some goat cheese. You just pet the goat that supplied the cheese, so it doesn't get any fresher than that. I prefer the plain chevre, but there are a few different flavor options. They also have goat's milk fudge, which is delicious too. Pro-tip: milking hour is always around 4pm. It is a great place to visit while in the North Fork during your wine crawl or farm spree. They have a variety of goat cheese mixed together with spices and herbs. Each as good as the next. In addition to the cheese they have a vast assortment of soaps and other health products that are all made on site. You can visit the goats, pet them and take photos with them. This is such a cute place. It's a working goat, sheep and , laying hen farm. They keep the sheep in the front and you may pet them if the approach the fence. The baby goats are next and they love attention. They will come to the fence and take grass from your hands and if you get too close, they will nibble on your clothing, or diamond ring. Next to the baby goats there are the hens. They just really poke around on the ground for bugs and such and don't pay that much attention to the humans. Lastly, there are the adult female goats in the back behind the milking barn. Some of then enjoy attention too. At 4 pm each day, you can come by and watch them milk the goats in a very orderly fashion 8-10 goats come in one door, are milked and then generally file out in an orderly fashion another door. Then the first door is opened and more goats come in. They munch of pellets while being milked. They make sheep and goat cheese on the farm and you can see them do that next to the milking parlor in another room. You can sample and buy handmade artesian cheese at the gift shop as well as lotions and lip balms and soaps made from sheep and goats milk. You should feel free to bring a bottle of wine and have a picnic with cheese and whatever else you want at the farm as they have several tables and chairs for your enjoyment. read more

I've recently been reading a lot about the horrors of factory farming in this country so coming here and seeing all these animals running around and being free truly warmed my heart. I came here with a friend and a box of crackers to have some goat cheese so we bought a container of the red pepper flavor in the tiny shop for $12 (where one can also purchase farm fresh eggs), and it was enough to fill the both of us. The cheese had that goat cheese tang but not so overpowering where you had a long and strong aftertaste. It was just so fresh tasting that I had to turn around from the picnic bench I was eating at and thank the amazing goats for their delicious milk. (Yes you can mingle with the goats but through a fence that allows their heads to reach through and beg for food, haha.) Oh! We also tried the goat cheese chocolate fudge and it was absolutely heavenly. Imagine the texture of a chocolate bar being in your mouth for about ten seconds where it's super soft, well this is like that with its chocolatey flavors instantly releasing all over your mouth and causing endorphins to run wild! read more

The cheeses looked good but the place was TINY. We couldn't get to the samples and when we did, we saw some cheese pieces picked up and put back down on the plate. No toothpicks or anything keeping people's grubby hands off the samples. Anyway, I HATE giving bad reviews as I'm a silver lining guy, but this place must be bigger or the samples should not be able to be crowded around. We'll check it out again when we come back to NoFo next year. read more

We LOVED this place! I have an obsession with goats since coming here. The goats look so happy! They have a little playground that looks like a pirate ship and they go up in it and play and run! I must have taken 50 pics of the goats while here. Happy goats apparently make very good cheese, milk, chocolate and yogurt. The goat milk fudge was super creamy and delicious. The cheese was perfect! They had great flavors of cheese too but the original was the best. We had the yogurt too and it was also really good! I would come back to see the goats playing and eat delicious cheese! I was so glad to have found this place. Only down was that the woman in the little shop wasn't very friendly when we were there. She hardly looked up when we came in and didn't make conversation. Also there are no facilities there just FYI. read more

We had a group of 10 and paid for a tour of the farm. It was amazing! Karen (owner) gave us an informative background on how she & her husband founded the farm. She answered our questions, taught us how to milk a goat! and gave us a nice sampling of different cheeses. Our favorite was the lavender honey goat. Divine! We also had fun meeting all the different goats and received a nice sample of goat soap to go. I also purchased a green tea soap and used it immediately. It's wonderful! This is by far some of the best goat cheese I've ever had. There are days I want to take the 2+ hour drive just for cheese & to pet the goats. (They are adorable!) The shop is just a small shed in the back, but it's loaded with lots of goodies from cheese to beauty products. I love the spa bar! Best goat cheese ever. Simple as that. Spent a lovely early afternoon here with a friend. We went to the little cheese shop on the farm and sampled a few specials. We tried the Sweet Pepper flavor and fell in love. So we bought some of the larger portion and crackers, then ate our breakfast out by the goats! This is the creamiest and purest tasting goat cheese ever. It is incredibly fresh and the sweet pepper flavor added something very special to an already amazing cheese. We sat there like pigs eating it with crackers and sometimes just by itself. It was that good! We also bought a small thing of fudge which was made with goats milk. It is amazing when you can taste the differences in foods which have fresh and natural ingredients, without all the preservatives. This was the best damn fudge or chocolate substance I ever had. So fresh and naturally sweet. Screw all the condensed milk and all that heart attack stuff. This was the real deal. We had fun petting the goats and walking around the location as well. Just wish this place was no so far from us, or else we would be getting our cheese from here every week. read more

Great little "out east" farm stop. Easily one of the best local goat & sheep cheeses you will find on the Island. The whole family enjoyed them. A bit pricey but worth it. This farm has got to be the cleanest I have ever seen lol. The kids can pet the goats & sheep as they are right there for picture opportunities. They have this cool baby goat boat thing that the kids liked. Bring a bottle of wine and you can have it with the cheese and crackers for sale. Plenty of places to sit and relax. With me being a cheesemonger, and my boyfriend being a cheese buyer, Catapano was definitely on our list of "Must Dos" during our trip to North Fork. We pulled up to the farm and immediately stopped into the small cheese shop to sample. They provide free samples of a couple different fresh chevre-style cheeses, as well as some harder styles. The chevres were the true standouts. Particularly the horseradish. So delicious! You simply cannot get this quality or freshness in the city. After our brief tasting we went outside to visit the goats. They were so silly and fun! Watch out though, goats will eat anything and everything! One even nibbled on my sundress! We had a super fun time petting the goats and watching them run around. We wished they would have had some goat feed out to give them treats, but I understand keeping these guys on a more regulated diet. On our way out we stopped to grab some goat milk fudge, which was fantastic! If we'd had a cooler we would have brought some cheese back with us to the city!
