It was one of the worst experiences in my life. It started out pretty good the food was better than…read moremost care centers. Staff members seemed nice at first. But Mike the cook was mean and shouted at kitchen help and a resident name Allen who worked in the kitchen parking lot and bathroom for free. A great guy. Mike the cook would play loud westcoast gangster rap every morning. Ihad 3 bad experiences with him. The first time he made me get out of my chair to allow a wheelchair resident go by which was because the tables were to close to the tables in the corner. The resident could have rolled by on the other side. The 2nd time Bill told me that lunchtime was abound to be over as I was on a business call. When I went to the window Mike said they were out of food. and that I was late. I told him I was on a business call. He replied that's not my problem and then decided to lecture me on whats happens when you come late. Then he said go sit down and now you have to wait. I was insulted and felt disrespected as I'm a senior old enough to be his father. I left to go buy my own food. The last time a female resident came back from a Dr appointment and the window was closed and the main door I told him he has one more needing a plate. He replied "I don't need you to advocate for others. I responded I will advocate for who ever needs my help! THen Jimmy the floor manager went into the kitchen and then came out and said I got your back Mike. I was very disappointed and that told me he didn't have the best interest of residents and that Staff loyal is what it's about there. I spoke to the owner about it. He was very down to earth nice guy and approachable all the time. He came back and said he was having a bad day Mike said. Again I was surpriised. He was having a back day at least 3 times a week. Non of the residents liked him. Many kitchen helpers were fired I assumed because of him. Chu Chu was very nice and loved by all residents and a better cook. He was also let go. I got into it with my roommate in a private room over him letting other residents enter the room 4 am asking for a drug pipe. I told staff about he came out cursing. I was told to leave for an hour I left for 2 days renting a motel. A week after that I was told I had to leave my private room because of a security issue. They had the female resident sit at my door until I was out. She said she was sorry. I was put I. a dorm with male and female residents. My priv curtain was removed by care coordinator Allan Delean, I filled a formal complaint letter to the owner. The curtain was replaced the next morning Sara saw it and said it's coming down. I said Mark said I could have it she said she didn't care it's coming down. It appears that some staff was more loyal to Allan than the owne. I complained again and Allan didn't speak to me for 2 weeks and Sara didn't speak to me again making my stay more uncomfortable they are extremely unorganized making last minute appointments say 15 minutes or 4 am in the morning. Didn't work for me. So Rosie who was mean and had an attitude problem as well would say I missed the appointment even though I rescheduled them in advance. I work at a church and my meds needed to be ready by 8 am in the morning and I went over the songs at 7 am to 7:45 am. It never ready. Rosie asked me one morning if I was taking meds that day and I said no. I had an appointment to have a tooth extracted and I took blood thinner. she said in a mean tone I'll put refused meds. A month later Allan called me into his office and said if you miss meds one more time you will be discharged with a forceful tone and said this is your first and final warning. I knew then he was looking for retribution because of the privacy curtain. I asked him if I could get transferred in the Lunchroom to where Bill went another resident. He said he would look into with a tone of un concern. SonI asked ELISIE To look into it for me and I didn't want him as my housing navigator anymore. I spoke to 4 residents who had bads experiences with him. One said Allan and Rosie blocked his permanent housing by not providing him with a ride to see and sign papers. Allan also called his family and told them he was using drugs. They said they believed ALLAN and no longer supported him. That's against the HIPPA law. On the day I got discharged in the meds room I was told by Brian that I was responsible for my med refills. I had no idea what he was talking about. Then said let it be known that Greenfield was told that he is responsible for his own meds with his PCP. let's talk about my PCP, I didn't have one because when they took me to my Dr appointment on November 12th I was told they no longer took AltaMED. I was picked up by Sara who didn't speak to me the entire cold ride I felt bed energy. After leaving the med room I decided to go to the front window to asked about the med refills. I went to front desk and asked staff why I had to refill meds. Rosie said you agreed thats a lie.

I was fortunate to win a ticket from Yelp for Union Station Homeless Services' annual fundraiser…read more My ticket allowed me to participate virtually in the Roarin' 2021 Evening for the Station event and silent auction and also included a boxed meal from Porta Via. Union Station Homeless Services is a nonprofit committed to helping individuals and families facing hunger, poverty, and homelessness in the community by providing the tools and resources they need to rebuild their lives. Last year, during the pandemic, they helped over 1,000 people find homes and employment. The day before the fundraiser I stopped by their office to pick up my boxed meal from Porta Via. Porta Via is a casual Italian market, deli, bakery & restaurant located in Pasadena. My meal consisted of roasted vegetable skewers, orecchiette pesto pasta salad, and mixed greens with feta, cranberries with a light vinaigrette. (Grilled Salmon and Grilled Chicken Kabobs were the other options.) Everything was delicious! This year's Evening for the Station was a hybrid event held virtually and in person. The in-person function was held at the University Club Pasadena. Entertainment for the evening featured performances from the Gerry Rothschild Band and a variety dance show by Todd Elliot Entertainment. Union Station's CEO Anne Miskey told us about all the wonderful work the nonprofit does. Gerry Rothschild mentioned that he also volunteers for Union Station Homeless Services and serves lunches every Thursday. There were some technical difficulties with the live feed but, overall, it was a very enjoyable event. The music was good, the dancers were fantastic, and there were some great items available in the silent auction, which I did bid on. I drive up and show my…read moreregistration card and drivers license, pull forward and they fill up my car with a weeks worth of food. On 4th of July weekend they gave me some great coffee additionally to the usual. They give some type of meat frozen or fresh, and a bag of pantry goods, a bag of veggies for cooking a soup perhaps, and bread, something sweet, and fruits. Sometimes you get something additionally, today I got a plant. These people do not judge you and I knew them when I was homeless and suffering horribly living in my car for a year and a half, and I know them still now that I am better off and housed. They feed me every time I drive up. There are new cars in the food line and mine is probably the worst looking in the food line, but we all get food to save us money. Thank you forever!

I was homeless on the streets after I suffered a severely abusive marriage. My ex-husband abused…read moreme in EVERY way a man can abuse a woman. He beat me, raped me, stole everything I owned and accused me of being worthless. I ran away from him, only to encounter several of his type on the streets. The workers at this shelter have been angels to me. I love them all, especially the manager, Kay, who is constantly busy and never says she is too busy to listen, my PC, Marilyn, who is setting the example of who I want to be more like, and Gloria, because she's a quintessential female badass. There are many great counselors here, who are helping me build up my self-worth, piece by piece. If they were among the King's horses and men, Humpty Dumpty WOULD be back together again. There are few male staff members, but they are all class and restore my faith that not all men should be considered sub-human. Our maintenance worker, Ricky, is here everyday and works very hard to make the place nice for us and always treats us with the highest respect and professionalism. I would give this place five stars, but the food is awful and would be much better if kitchen staff could prepare it, instead if rewarming crappy food a caterer brings. Also, there is a policy of laissez-faire, related to women stealing from each other, even though there are ample cameras to identify the thieves and subjecting them to termination. My abuser stole everything I ever got he could sell for a dime, so when these women do it, who I could physically stand up to for myself, it is a huge trigger for me, and I'm lucky the staff here has managed to diffuse my anger and redirect it thus far.

My kids and I have volunteered for many years at this food bank. It is a lifeline for so many…read morepeople in need in our community. It's incredible how much food they distribute and how many families they help. I see on their social media how they give holiday gifts to children in need, help with back to school supplies and vouchers, dental cleanings, vet clinics, mobile showers and so much more. Many of the people who work here are volunteers, and even the paid staff don't earn much - I know of some who have been past clients wanting to give back. I have seen the faces of gratitude of some of the clients who come here for help. Whenever I come here I have a renewed sense of faith in human kindness and generosity, seeing the impact this organization has and the generosity of so many volunteers and donors, trying to help those who need it most. I'm sad reading the negative review. I also imagine people are quicker to complain on yelp even for free services than to show their appreciation. I also understand it must be truly frustrating for people who are hungry and/or struggling to survive to have patience when things don't go smoothly as life is already so difficult to bear. But I truly believe that the people working at Foothill Unity are doing their best within the constraints or limited resources they have and that they are also dealing with tough and stressful situations all day. I think it is unrealistic to expect a charity that is dependent on volunteers and has limited resources to be a well-oiled machine. In my interactions with those who work there, I believe they are doing the best they can, and I am inspired by all the amazing things they do.

The orientation is about 30 minutes, after that the fun begins! During the AM shift, I helped load grocery carts filled with food for families and organized a cabinet. I also helped caseworkers with interpreting in Mandarin in person and over the phone. Definitely a great experience and great organization to help. They are truly helping those in need. Free street parking. About a 10 minutes walk from Allen station. Remember to wear sneakers and comfy clothes.
