Even with all the childhood memories I have at this park, I have since been spoiled rotten with the ocean breeze and horizon views of the bay, lol. That just for my running preferences though. In other regards, Cataldi is quite well rounded in how much wide open grassy area there is for soccer/football, plenty of tennis counts, a couple of different playgrounds, and grills scattered throughout. There's even some exercise-looking structures around the far side! Lol. In the early morning you'll see a lot of folks walking themselves or their four legged companions around for some good ol' fresh air. This park is huge! If you have enough time, it takes about an hour to walk the entire park. I come here often for morning and evening walks since it's across the street from my house. If you want to enroll your kids in soccer, Kidz Love Soccer teaches every Saturday morning at this park. It's a great outdoor program for kids. read more

this park was a great idea for my friend's bday bar-b-q. really spacious, lots of parking. we had a good ol time on Saturday, from 11am - 6pm. basically we stayed there all day long. we had so much food and drinks, got so stuffed. ahaa read more

Matt C., I I did not appreciate your bad language in describing my park. Please go back to Florida. Cataldi Park was established as a place for the residents in the area, surrounding the park, for our families to enjoy. Those of us facing the park paid a premium (money) for the privilege of our "lakeside" sites. Over the years it was taken over by non-residents, most of whom have been respectful and appreciative of the park. We did have some people come into the park a few years ago who were not at all respectful of this lovely park that they chose to come to for their adult sports activities. They were ordered out by our City Council and informed that they were no longer able to use the park. The park is quite well maintained. Remember that every city department has had cuts in their budgets. It has a very small staff to maintain the lawns, let alone the rest rooms. There are other parks (Penetencia Creek, etc.) in the area that are larger and may offer something that you might prefer if you do not find Cataldi Park to your liking. For those of you who enjoy Cataldi Park, please continue to come and bring your families and enjoy your day. For those who use the picnic areas, it would be appreciated if you would please be sure to use the garbage containers that have been provided so that paper towels, etc. do not blow across to our front yards. This place used to be an orchard as I am from the Bay Area and especially Berryessa area. There used to be a lot of work out stations but those are gone and I am not sure why maybe they wrote it out or the maintenance was too much for a city park to maintain. The basketball courts are gone the tennis courts are still available for use but they are minimized and always filled up as now people come here to train on their tennis skills. They do do competition soccer here during the summer months and spring months. The playground area for kids is fantastic well maintained and well lighted. This is a safe area to come especially during the day you will see Boy Scouts Girl Scouts and all kinds of activities from classes schools and after school functions so this is a very busy part but I come here daily to remind myself of how beautiful the Bay Area is and I get my exercise on and cardio. This is a clean park with plenty of bathrooms and rest areas and picnic areas. From time to time you'll see jumper houses here which is pretty cool read more

It's a love/hate relationship w/ this park. I come here to jog and walk etc. But, it sucks cause there is that fat intersection that some may have to cross where people don't enjoy stopping for the pedestrian who holds the darn RIGHTS. Other than that, this park is sad looking, the grass is dying here and there, there is always random dog crap from irresponsible dog owners (although sometimes not their fault cause they are out of doggie poop bags), one basketball hoop, a couple of picnic tables spread out, and also not to mention the shady people smoking here. But I still love this park cause it's close, it's got a wonderful playground for kids, and it's just gorgeous on a nice sunny day. read more

Big green grass field, many tennis courts, few basketball courts, lots of swing sets, some playgrounds and couple tables and benches. This park is pretty much perfect for any occasion: picnics, parties, acro yoga sessions, any type of sport games and etc. This park has its own lot for parking. I like that the playground sets have a rubber flooring instead of tanbark. The bathrooms are pretty clean compared to other parks as well. read more

This park is one of the better San jose parks. I didnt find any trash in the play area, its away from the street. there are 2 play areas close to each other, lots of grass and nice kids (I came during the week). Dog owners keep their unleashed dogs away from the playgrounds (nice!) read more

I had birthday parties here & now my kids have them here. We like to party in the back because there are always about 3,000 people at the front of the park. The back fills up too but not as quickly as the front. Either way get there early (seriously like 4am) & don't leave. The only things that I don't like is that you can't reserve AND the city of San Jose says only 1 jumper per park even though Cataldi is HUGE. On any given weekend you will see a ton of jumpers but only 1 will have a permit & with my luck the day of my party will be the day that the enforcers are out. So get your permit EARLY. read more

Very nice park with a ton of options, play grounds for toddlers-teens, tennis courts, basketball courts, fields, BBQ pits, tables, bathrooms. I advise getting here very early in the AM to reserve your spot for an afternoon party on a weekend. There is no alcohol allowed at this park either in case you are wondering. read more

This enormous park is great for family bbqs. You just have to get there early to reserve your spots. There are tons of open fields to play games, tennis courts aplenty, a path to go jogging. Bathrooms are a plus, not to mention ice cream trucks love to drive by. Great family environment. read more

Nice, open playground with a variety of structures for my kids to choose from. Rock climbing, toddler playground and big kid playground separate (same for the swings). Bathrooms are a little sketchy for my germaphobe children, parking lot gets a little cramped, and ice cream vendors every 20 minutes are the only "downsides." read more

Out of the parks in the area, this is definitely one of the better parks around. Overall, it's a huge park with a lot of room to have picnics, BBQs, and to play sports (football, soccer, frisbee). I do like that there are multiple tennis courts, but don't like that they are always taken by old Asian folks. The park is pretty clean and very well maintained. Worst part about this place. . . .a lack of basketball courts. From my experience, there aren't any. However, I would not be surprised if they're located in a section of the park that I've never been to. For example, until today, I didn't know there was a section of the park that faced the 680 freeway; definitely blew my mind. Silly Jamie. read more

I play tennis here with friendly fellow park players. I didn't know them at first but they welcomed me in. When I don't play tennis I jog with my dog. They have a nice jogging track. My dog has fun meeting other friendly dogs. read more

I live close by so come here often to walk, etc. They have alot of amenities for the whole park including nice play area for kids with soft ground cover. A lot of open grassy areas for running sports like football and soccer. They also have basketball, tennis and hand ball courts. BBQ areas with benches and tables as well. read more

This is a big park with a basketball court in the middle, tennis courts in the beginning, and at the back of the park is a work out area. They have walking trails and sidewalks that goes throughout the entire park. Everyone is friendly here and there's so much green grass everywhere with trees. You really can't go wrong coming here for a relaxing day at the park. Probably by far one of the best parks you can find in San Jose! read more

Wonderful playground for all ages, soccer field, basketball, volley ball, tennis, handball and loads of lush green grass to let your little monsters run to their hearts desire. We love to go here and take advantage of all the great free activities and seem to always make a new friend. Very busy on weekends and the one star I removed is for the grumpy a$$ xenophob ice cream man who is kind to his people and rude and gruff to my hubby and I. This has happened more than once! Like the other city parks, it is becoming an eyesore and a dump. City budget cuts resulted in minimum maintenance being done and no enforcement of park rules. Park is also not safe if you are alone and visit early morning or late in the day. More and more reports of people being assaulted and robbed. Also, a large increase in the number of homeless people are living and hanging out in & around the park. Not uncommon seeing them using the park trees and bushes as their bathroom. Park is also becoming a dumping ground of household goods and waste. If you are looking for a used mattress or old tube TV, it is the place to go. Too bad, it used to be a nice park. read more

This is my usual running spot during the week. The mornings are always peaceful and not many people in the park. Some friendly dogs with owners and mothers pushing strollers are usually roaming the park. I stay away from the weekends and evenings due to the fact that everyone comes here! I have tried on several occasions to jog here in the evening and there are just too many activities going on. Either a sporting event / party / fitness class / or just the whole family out having fun. Nothing wrong with any of this, i just like quiet mornings and having the park basically to myself. The bathrooms are always dirty, i try to stay away from them. There are nice tennis courts that seem to always be full. This is the spot to have a party on the weekends, it is always packed with quick shades and barbecues each weekend! read more

This park has the worst basketball spot. But everything else is nice. Its like in the heart of all the schools. My friend and i play football here sometimes and theres many places to play. its a long park so theres areas in the back of the park people dont know about because its empty. Great park with lots of grass space as well as playgrounds. My 1 and 1/2 yr old loves it there. There is also a little sand area by the 2-5 yr old play ground and it's usually pretty well shaded by the trees around which is a bonus so bring your and toys! read more

i grew up living around Cataldi Park & living near Cataldi Park gave me that cozy feeling. Its a large park where everyone can enjoy a nice day for picnics, bball games, tennis, or even celebrations. I remember over the summer I would pass by every sundays when i visited St. Victors Church & all i would see were birthday party celebrations happening every week! its incredible how people would enjoy the park for a bday party esp. young children! this park offers so much for pets as well as the joggers/walkers because of how big the park is! read more

I would normally rate high but lately....it's starting to look like a sh@t hole. Since they don't keep up with the grass it's starting to grow lots of weeds and flower weeds. My dog and I have both been stung by bees. If they start keeping up with the weeds and lawn I will definitely come back and give it a high score until then if I could I would give it a 1/2 star. read more
