We met family at this park for a picnic. The kids had a lot of fun playing on the playground but the structures look like they need some maintenance. The wood is blistering, needs to be sanded and resealed, and at least one kid came home with large splinters in their hand. The restrooms are not conveniently located to every area of the park. When the kids had to go, we had to drive them over. Generally, I enjoyed hanging out here and it was nice that some of the areas were shaded. I just didn't appreciate that someone let their dog off the leash to charge at my kids on the playground, only to just stand there and not do anything as it repeatedly lunged at us. It was enough that even though I like the park, if the people who visit this park think that is okay, then maybe it isn't the park for us. read more

This park is ok. It's been around for a long time and it's not bad that's for sure but it's also not that special. It's big, a lot of people play all kinds of sports here like football and soccer. Also there are plenty of kids here that play little league or try to I think sometimes on their weekend times. I have been coming here since I was in middle school but one of the reasons why I think it's just ok is because it hasn't changed much since then. Maybe that's a nostalgia good thing but also I just feel like it needs a bit of updating. There is also a separate parking lot area all the way down in the back road where a lot of people tend to be... interesting in the middle of the night since the lot is not gated. Nice park, but if you're a runner like me, the perimeter is a little too small for my tastes. It's only about 1.3 miles all the way around, I prefer to run at Alum Rock or other places... Great place to bbq or play volleyball though. The park is very well maintained. read more

This park is very close to my home so I go there every week for a run. The park is almost well maintained, only problem is the uneven lawn when we tried to play soccer on the field. Also they mow the lawn after its become too big. Now the good part is, the running track is really good! One full circle of the park is almost 2 miles! The tennis courts are also really nice and there are lot of them,so don't need to wait a lot to get your turn. I've seen several small kids playing in the play area on slides and swings in evenings and several picnics over the weekend. Overall it's a very good park. read more

This park is not that big but very beautiful, versatile and well organized one. Many people can enjoy even team sports such as football, volley ball, etc, on the well maintained grass field, very good for the family event with bbq, very cozy place to just walk around for daily exercise, safe and nice playground for children, basketball court, super nice tennis court etc etc. This park is the best one near me and they just finished renovation too although it was already pretty good ! :) read more

Only one basketball hoop, and a flag of the United States painted on the ground. No court to be found. That's about the only real weakness to this place. There are a ton of tennis courts, a ton of picnic barbecue areas (not hard to secure at all), and just fields and fields of grass. This is ultimate picnic spot. Especially since each spot has paved places for tabling. You don't have to be on the ground the entire time. In the summer, the grass gets a little dry, but now would be the perfect opportunity to chill here simply because this summer isn't that hot. There can be a lot of kids here though, given that it's pretty near Morrill Middle School, Piedmont Hills, and Piedmont Middle. The playground here is pretty safe an awesome too. I have friends who continuously try to hurt themselves by hurling themselves from the swings, but it never happens. Just a great, clean place. read more

I like to come to this park to play tennis. I wished the tennis courts had lights, so that I could play when it's dark, but it's still better than nothing. I also wish there was a different set up for the courts, or when people were done playing that they would actually leave. One time I was trying to play and people who were done playing decided to hang around and smoke cigarettes, which not only do I hate the smell but I couldn't even play and it was annoying. Cataldi Park has a very special place in the my heart. I've been coming here since the days of middle school. I have so many memories here; family picnics, flag football games, first kisses and heartbreaks, taking my Chow Chow Nala to soil the green grass and mingle with other dogs, and the very first place where I started jogging and running as a new found hobby. Yesterday, I hosted another UYE (Unofficial Yelp Event) picnic here. The event was a success, however, I wanted to take a moment to share an important message about our park and recreation department here in San Jose. Most locals aren't aware that the city has cut back on man power for park maintenance. When I arrived early that Sunday morning at 7:00am to set up, our desired picnic area was completely trashed (caused by the previous users the day before). Excessive litter was everywhere and the trash cans were overflowing with garbage and recyclables. I had asked Serbelle to stop by my house to pick up a push broom and together we cleaned up the entire picnic area. Luckily, I came prepared and wash down a majority of the picnic tables and seating area. After 30 minutes of cleaning, we brought back the essence of renewal to the picnic grounds. A city worker finally arrived to remove all the collected trash and thank us for helping out. He explained the city situation and the difficulty of park maintenance with a very short staff. I told him this was all labor of love because I'm a local here and this is my community park. After our picnic ended, a few Yelpers and I stayed behind to clean up and offer our recyclables to an elderly lady with was collecting aluminum cans and plastic bottles. On the drive home, I thought about putting together a local volunteer group that could help keep Cataldi Park litter free. This would keep our parks beautiful and benefit the next people using the park. It's an idea that I'm still working on and hopefully bring to life in the months ahead. I'm just still disappointed that there are people out there that cannot grasp the concept of "PLEASE DON'T LITTER!". As for the amenities of Cataldi Park, this is a perfect place to bring small children to play on the renovated playgrounds and swings. If you're an avid tennis player, there are several courts to get a friendly game on (yes, the nets and turf are well kept). If walking, jogging, or running is your thing, the trails and sidewalks offer nearly 2.5 miles of open space. Organized sports (with city permit) are found here regularly during the summer months with soccer and flag football being the most popular. Early morning Tai Chi can be found here daily for those seeking spiritual longevity and self meditation. Finally, Cataldi Park is very dog friendly environment as long as their kept on a leash and you pick up their droppings. If you're going to host a picnic, I strongly recommend getting here early at 6:00am. Picnic tables and BBQ grills are first come first serve basis. I encourage bringing a broom, dust pan, wash cloth, and handy bucket to clean down the picnic area. I know this the job of the city, but I hope my message here prepares you. Also, parking is plentiful depending on the park activities. If there's a organized game here, parking will be difficult. So plan well and enjoy one of San Jose's beautiful community parks! This is a nice park, pretty big in size. Plenty of parking around the park. I've been here on many occasions, for parties and when I used to help coach some kids sports. This past weekend I had my son's 1st birthday party here, and wanted to offer up some tips for those who may think of hosting their party at Cataldi. I just want to clarify, in the past, the picnic area by the front where the playgrounds are USED to be first come first serve, but now they do have online reservations!! - If you want to host your party in the area that has 7 long tables/benches in a half circle (also known as the area called Cataldi Cresent), to ensure that spot, I would recommend reserving that area online at . You have to pay to rent this area, but it ensures that area for you from 8am-5pm and you don't have to go there at the crack of dawn and wait there to "save your area". On the City of San Jose's website, the price of the reservation depends on the day, season, and which park you choose. For Cataldi on a Saturday in May, it was $210. - After you reserve your area online, you will get a confirmation email and a PDF of a sign you must put in your area by 8am day of your party just as a courtesy for others so they know that this area has been reserved. My tip would be, if you can, print out signs for each table you have AND the main reservation signage area, and put it out the night before. That way, you don't have to kick anyone out who goes to the park by 5am to save tables (that's what had happened to me). If someone gives you trouble about the reserved picnic area, there is a number you can call for disputes. - In the description in the city's website, it says this picnic area is "partially shaded". For the most part it wasn't shaded, so we had to bring our own canopies. - If you don't choose to host your party in this specific picnic area, I have seen others set up their parties on the grass underneath the shade with their own tables and chairs. Other than a great party spot, Cataldi is definitely a nice, clean, large park. read more

They also feature tennis courts, and towards the back there's a handball wall (if you're into that... laaaaaame). I've been going to Cataldi Park with my family since I was probably in kindergarten. It's SO FUN HERE! Now that I'm 21, I still have the same amount of fun! My brother and I used to chase each other around at this park. It's so clean, big, and fun! Now that all the cousin's in my family are grown up, we don't go here as often, but we take our niece, Tess, here all the time and she absolutely loves it. We shall continue the tradition! We also hold birthday parties at Cataldi Park. Everything is so spaced out, it's perfect for summer birthdays. There's enough shade so you don't melt in the sun :) My parents used to play tennis here, which got me and one of my BFFs to play here also. But we weren't as committed. The last time we played tennis, 15 minutes into it, we heard the ice cream man and ran after him. We rewarded our 15 minutes of exercise with Powerpuff Girls ice cream. Mmmm! Then played a little more and drove home. My aunt goes running with her dogs there every morning now. Her and my mom go bike riding a lot there. I really should get a bike so I can go to. This park is too fucking big and they only have a parking lot for ONE side of the park, which is the front. If you want to go further in the park then you have to park on the street and I DON'tT LIKE IT! I couldn't really find the two bathrooms these people speak of and I had to piss in the fuckin bushes. They have a stupid basketball court thats fullsized but the problem is that the court has no three point arc, free throw line, out of bounds lines or any shit like that. The jungle gyms were ok, they have nice big fields but its whatever. Will I come back? only if I am in the front of the park and they make bathrooms more accessible. read more

AWESOME! Like Lianna B. this place holds a lot of my precious childhood memories and will hold my older age memories too. For the past millenia (I seriously can't remember) I've had my birthday party here, and even though it's gotten more congested it's super fun having my birthday here. It's just tradition to do so, if you want to join my birthday party than PM me (you...sicko...) because we need bodies for sports. Otherwise in the future as my friend Chris has said I should have parties here every single year (which has happened). Boy I can't wait until I have kids, so I can wait for them to grow up and do all the planning and work for me. I expect my friends and I to play football here until we're in our 100's and then go to Morrill afterwards every single year. You'd think it would be monotonous, but as we grow and age each year it's always exciting. We'll bet money on who'll break their hip and stuff, and it'll be super awesome! The only downside is that they have only one actual basketball hoop here so that does force my friends and I to move to Morrill for the basketball portion. Great! Green grass, multiple playgrounds, room to run, picnic tables and grills make for a good park. I love this park! First of all, the park is very well maintained with lots of green grass to play soccer (there's usually a game or two) or a game of ultimate Frisbee. This park is also very big so its a great place to go for a jog around the perimeter. Another nice thing about this park is that there are several seating areas where you can host a bbq or picnic. Some picnic areas are equip with grills but not all. It does get pretty packed so you may need to come early in the morning to reserve a spot. And last, it's great for kids as its a park and parks should have playgrounds. This place two different playground areas. It also has a few tennis courts. read more

This is a small, quaint park. Many families picnic here, set up volleyball sets, play tennis. This is a great place to have a hangout with families and friends. You can also play tennis and basketball at this park. If you are here by yourself and are in the mood for a short run, this is a great place. The perimeter is only 1.3 miles - totally do-able. ONLY advice: if you're going to run, i wouldn't recommend running around noon on a weekend. Great place to play some sports or have a BBQ! There are big open grassy fields as well as a volleyball court, and there are tables to eat or play board games! There are also two playgrounds on opposite sides of the park and many tennis courts. Trees cover a lot of the tables so getting too much sun isn't a problem either! I have fond memories of this place as a kid, and even now, as an adult, this is my favourite place to go running. I love the running trails! Even the grass areas are large enough to have multiple team sports playing on them.... organized or not. I've only ever been to a picnic here once, and I didn't host it, so I wouldn't be the person to ask regarding that, but apparently you have to reserve tables at an ungodly hour. There are two small parking lots, and plenty of parking on the street. The playgrounds are cool, I've taken my nieces and teeter-tottered with them. Great park for kids to play in the park. They even have a rock climbing area for kids. Grass is done right. a lot of space to play football and soccer on the grass. They have few BBQ picnic area. One basketball court that is double rimmed I think. This park is great for walking the dog or just jogging. Wife and I come here occasionally to take walks. Ever since I was a kid, this park was one of my favorites. I used to come here a lot. There are many play structures for younger earthlings to play on. Kids will definitely enjoy this. But the only complaint is that the sand area is covered in leaves and twigs. It is kind of dirty. Every time that I went there, there would be an ice cream truck that goes around the parking lot. I am not exactly a sporty type of person, but I am positive that athletes can have a good time there. Now, every morning, my dad and I wake up and go jogging around. The park has a guide to show you how to run if you want to run one mile or two miles, there will be signs. Also, there are plenty of exercising equipment that is along the jogging route. By the exercising equipment, there are a couple of benches. There is a wall so that tennis players can practice hitting a ball back and forth. There is also a couple tennis courts. There is at least one basketball hoop for shooting. Bike-riding is also nice because you can ride around the whole park. They have a really big field for soccer. There is also a baseball batting cage. Human family picnics and small rodent family picnics are also very nice. You can also host small birthday parties, although I highly doubt that small rodents would also host birthday parties. Young humans can have a great time playing on the structures or running on the fields with other non-dangerous animals, such as squirrels and chipmunks. For all those Pokemon Go players, there are plenty of Poke-Stops as well as Pokemon. I know that as a fact because I have caught plenty of these creatures myself. There are actually two by the tennis walls. Living in the neighborhood right next to he park, i definitely go there plenty of times. If you are new to this place, I would definitely recommend you to go. And seriously, valet parking? Oh dear, of course not! read more

Great spacious park with clean bathrooms and a great play ground for kids. Came here for a Baby Shower over the weekend and it was really nice! The park is in the middle of a random neighborhood, so it was a new find for me. Everything was nicely manicured; it wasn't over crowded; and there were plenty of park benches for people to host parties. We brought a few extra tables and chairs because our party was large, since the benches and tables are really far spread out (this is a good thing though because you don't want to be TOO close to another party). Overall an awesome park. Tons of space to play a variety of games, and parking is NOT an issue. read more

This park has restrooms and plenty of parking space. It has a lot of grass area which is great for any occasion or sport events. It has six adult size swings and six child's seat swings, which is way more than other parks I've seen! It also has two playgrounds, one for 2 to 5-year-olds and the other is for bigger kids. I don't play tennis much anymore. I don't play with frisbees. But I do walk. And I find Cataldi Park to be perfect for taking long strolls. I park in the small parking lot, and walk around the perimeter of the park, and one of these days I'll actually measure how much I'm walking, but it's quite a ways - this part is quite big, and extends all the way to the 680 freeway. Great, free, local park. Nice trails to walk/run, tennis courts, basketball hoops, kids play area, 'fitness exercise' area (all of those wooden bars and poles to stretch on or do pull ups with). The bbq areas always seem occupied during the weekends but it seems as if there are plenty to choose from scattered throughout the park. It's nice to have a free, well kept community park to use. Oh and there are a few parking lots scattered around the park, and plenty of street parking. The kids play area/tennis courts are the most used spots and the parking lot is not huge in front of them, but c'mon people, you can park on the street and take a short walk. read more

I really like this park. They have flushing toilets. They have a very nice park for older kids and younger kids. I used to come here when I was down and swing on the swing sets. It's very nice and the park is actually really big and it goes around the entire neighborhood. This park has a nice grill area and tables. I have fond memories of Cataldi Park from when I was a kid. The part we practice soccer in is crazy windy and against the freeway. I come here two times a week for my son's soccer practice. The park itself is huge and has more than one playground for kids or adults. Plus they have tennis courts, handball courts, and plenty, plenty open fields to what you like in. All in all I recommend this park to anyone looking to get some time outdoors doing what ever it is you like to do outside, and I mean whatever. read more

Went here for the first time for a friend's birthday BBQ and we had a blast. Well, at least I did... hahah It's a long park so you kind of have to pick which side you want to be on. One side has tennis courts, playgrounds, and bbq grills. The other side has a wall for handball and a basketball hoop with no free throw or 3 point line but it's OK because we just made do with what we had(the end of the hopscotch on the ground is the sideline and the 4 square is the other sideline, haha). We played basketball/football for a good 4 hours and had some good ass BBQ. I'm still hella sore and the BBQ was 2 days ago. GOOD TIMES. =D read more

I really want to give this place 4 stars, but thing is if you're trying to get a good spot at this place, you better come early, and when I say early, I mean EARLY. There are a few other good parks to go to other than this, but more of a paying park and at this park, it's damn clean and nice to come to without having to pay for parking or a spot. So I would recommend this place, but can't give that extra star because I've seen better parks out there. I just don't see myself waking up at 6am just to get a decent bbq spot here. Don't get me wrong I'd rather go to this park than many other parks here, because others are dirty and ish compared to this park. On top of that, there is a nice real estate for some football, volley ball, baseball and soccer all at once. If you love outdoor sports, you'll enjoy this park, just be prepared to come early. My most recent visit here was for a walk around the track they have here, enjoyed that too, so there is much more than just some kick back, outdoor sports, but you can also come here to enjoy a nice stroll in the park. read more

This Park is a Five Star for sure! Even with the drought were having the grass is pretty healthy. Great to have BBQ, picnic on the front of the park all the ways to the back of the park. Walking the dogs is always fun when you meet other people through out the park that have love for each other's four legged family. Cataldi Park - Lots of open grass space to teach the boys catch!! - Parks Near Me - San Jose, California

I was in town for business and looking for an alternative to running on a treadmill in a hotel gym. This park was a 12-minute drive from my hotel near the airport. Overall very nice. Lots of people and very safe-feeling, though I did see a teen strolling along a line of parked cars casually (at least I am sure he thought he was being subtle) looking into each car as he passed to scope out the contents. I think as long as you put valuables in the trunk or glove compartment you are ok. I did the path around the perimeter of the park three times--maybe a total of a little more than 3 miles. I like that some of it was dirt and not all concrete. Only downside is the dirt portion is also the part closest to the highway so there was that constant noise. But all in all a pleasant place to walk and run. read more
