My original thought was to visit Calabria Bakery to get some Portuguese tarts. Instead, a sandwich board with a veal sandwich made me forget about tarts and go for this sandwich. I frankly don't know why I had never visited this bakery whenever I'm in this plaza for ServiceOntario or Dollarama. It's a combination of a bakery, Italian speciality grocery store, cafe, and restaurant. It was cool walking in and seeing pasta, mushroom spread, different types of canned tomatoes, and a lot more. I headed to the hot foods section. The amazing smell led me effortlessly over there. A woman put down a pan of veal in tomato sauce. I love a good veal sandwich. My mouth was salivating to what felt like no end. The menu doesn't indicate how much sandwiches are, so I asked how much a veal one would be. I think she said $11.50 and it comes with toppings. That's such a great deal! I got a veal sandwich with mushrooms and green bell peppers. She asked if I wanted the sandwich sliced in half. I said yes. I normally get my veal sandwich fix at California Sandwiches. It charges extra for each topping that you want. You do get more veal there, but you are looking at closer to $18 for a sandwich. I paid with a credit card. I tapped and was good. Another woman put my sandwich in a paper bag. I thanked her and put my food in my insulated bag. I then headed to my car and drove home to enjoy lunch. This sandwich was excellent. It had the perfect veal slices with light breading. The veal was tender. It had the perfect amount of tomato sauce to keep the sandwich moist without making the bun soggy. I loved the mushrooms and green bell peppers. So good! I'd return just for this sandwich alone. I'd also get some chocolate croissants because they looked delicious. I saw frozen meatballs. I want to get some next time. I'm so glad that I finally dropped by this eatery. Markham doesn't have one. The closest one to my home used to be in Pickering. I've learned that the Sobeys on Laird that I used to frequent is now a Farm Boy, which is my closest one. Last Wednesday, I was visiting STACKT Market for the first time. I decided to park in an underground lot attached to Farm Boy. I knew that I wanted to check this grocery store out afterwards. It was also the closest parking lot to STACKT. Entering the lot was straightforward. I was driving from Mississauga. I ended up going north on Bathurst and made a right turn into the lot. There are no barriers that force you to take or insert a ticket. It's the honour system in that you pay for parking at the kiosk near the elevators by entering your licence plate and specifying how long you will be here. The great thing about this Farm Boy is that you get your forty minutes ($2) of parking reimbursed if you spend at least $15 at the store. I find that to be a simple feat. Grabbing what you need within forty minutes is generous. I went to Las Muns across the street to pick up some empanadas and check out STACKT. It didn't take long, as there weren't a ton of businesses open and I was the only customer at Las Muns. I love this Farm Boy store. Everything in the produce section looked neat and fresh. I gawked at all the fresh fruit. It even had a section with cut-up fruit that you can grab and go. I loved all beverages that I saw. Oat. Jarritos. a2 milk. Strawberry banana juice. Rise kombucha. It was exciting! I spent a lot of time in the bakery section. The bread section smelled so good. I found the day-old assorted bun bin. I got the softest set of cheese bagels and brioche buns in a bag for $4. I was so pleased! I made burgers and ate them with my bagel and brioche haul. Delicious! It was cool seeing BeaverTails cookies. I had to get a box of four apple cookies. I loved the cubed apples in each large cookie. The quiche section is amazing. You can get individual portions, half a quiche, or an entire quiche. I went with half a quiche, which lasted a couple of meals. The ham and spinach quiche was yummy and perfect. Front Street Grill is where you can get hot foods. The stir-fry section is cool where you pick the protein and veggies, and it's made right in front of you. There's also a hot bar if you'd like to pick and choose what you'd like. One of these days, I'll do the soup bar. I love soup and can see how deadly it would be for me. I got the nicest man at the checkout. He asked if I needed a bag. I only had three items with me, so I was okay carrying them to my car. I showed him my parking ticket after I saw that my total was over $15 items. He took my ticket, applied the parking credit, and all was good. I paid with a credit card. I tapped and was done. He was kind to hand over my items. I thanked him and headed to the elevators. There are three. One came immediately. I love this store. I look forward to returning to shop here when I'm in the area. The prices have been the focus of some criticism from other Yelpers, but really, think of what you are getting! Excellently prepared, traditional Italian food. They do not cut corners on providing food cooked according to traditional recipes, careful preparation and quality ingredients. This skill and care is reflected in the cost. Try buying your own imported ingredients and making the same thing ... you'll be surprised at how inexpensive the Alimentari is, given what you are getting.
