Great pastries! Fabulous Coffee! Only problem is that they are consistently out of most of them. They told me to place my order online...hardly ever works even when you follow the convoluted instructions. People are super nice and it's unfortunate that the owner doesn't ever bake enough of anything. I was in at 10:00am today. My online order wouldn't go through because the owner hadn't loaded what was available for the week. Still not loaded so I guess they just don't bake on days the owner can't figure out how much they sell of each item...you would think that they would have some clue as to how many croissants, danish, breads, etc that they sell in a week and get the website up and running. Frustrated, I ordered my usual coffee and 3 croissants. Nope!!! Only 2 croissants at 10:00am and they were probably left over from Saturday since they were tough and chewy rather than flakey and soft when they're fresh. And, absolutely not one tart, danish and very few muffins available. I'm not convinced of the cleanliness either. You can see back into the kitchen and everyone is running around with bare feet! It seems that that would be against health department regulations. Don't waste your time. They will be out of whatever you want so you'd be bettter off going around the corner to another shop or even to Monroe. Those establishments at least can figure out how many of certain popular items they need. So sad because when they're good, they're great. Unfortunately, they're hardly ever good. The BEST croissants, pastries and beignets!!! They are so friendly and their recipes are fresh and creative.

My first time having Castor and Chicory was this morning. I arrived and the line was around the building, granted it was due to social distancing, however people were leaving with bags of goodies. I was excited. I walked in and got 2 cinnamon rolls, some butterscotch oatmeal cookies and a coffee. The oatmeal cookies were melt in your mouth good. The cinnamon roll I had was ok, nothing spectacular. My mom said the coffee was super strong. I'll return to try other things, don't know that it's anything I would stand in line for again though. read more

Very disappointed. My family were in town and wanted Beignets. When I called the number listed no one answered (called multiple times). I took a chance and followed the directions to the address listed... of course took me no where. read more

Finally got to try a Caster and Chicory king cake from the new bakery at 405 Natchitoches Street in West Monroe, LA. OMG, that was the best king cake I have ever had in my life. It was the chocolate cream cheese and it was wonderful. Definitely going back to get some other flavors. read more

Awesome beignets and cafe au lait. Both piping hot, the beignets liberally covered with powdered sugar (shouldn't have opened in the rental car with black interior). Prompt service at the food cart. A real highlight of my trip to Monroe. read more

The beignets are delicious. The owners are extremely friendly and accommodating. But my biggest rave is for their king cake. I've eaten many a king cake in my day and Caster and Chicory's is hands down the best I've ever had. I highly recommend the praline cream cheese flavor. read more
