After spending a brief time at the Port Hood Day Park enjoying the nice views of the water and Port Hood Island on a sunny Sunday morning, we decided to stop off for a light breakfast at Sandeannie's Bakery & Tea Room (formerly Greco Pizza Donair Xpress). The place was very busy when we arrived here with a mix of locals and tourists. The place is not fancy which consists of a cozy dining room with self serve table seating and order counter. There are also bakery goods & breads (in clear plastic bags)for sale on the shelf including rolls, biscuits, scones, cookies, muffins, and oatcakes. The breakfast menu (served all day) includes a variety of egg dishes, breakfast sandwiches, French toast, breakfast sides, cinnamon rolls, and other baked goods. The lunch menu (from 11AM) includes sandwiches, burgers, salads, soup, chili, seafood chowder or lobster bisk, seafood, fish cakes, and all beef meat pie. For dessert, they also offer Deep Fried Mars Bar and Deep Fried Ice Cream. The prices here seem reasonable, most entrees $6.00-$9.95 and seafood dishes $8.50-$12.95. They also offer a kids menu and specials too. This is how it works here. They have restaurant menus you can look at, but you have to order your food and drink at the register & pay first, then your order is brought out to your table. The coffee and tea is also self serve. For breakfast, we ordered 2 coffees, a cinnamon roll, and a classic breakfast with two eggs (scrambled) with fish cakes, home fries, homemade toast, oat mash, and orange slice garnish. The brewed coffee was good and refillls were self serve. The cinnamon roll was okay, which was served warm and slightly dry inside, and not the frosted icing kind we're accustomed to enjoying. As for the classic breakfast, the scrambled eggs were soft, the homemade bread was toasted crisp and lightly buttered. The soft grilled fish cakes had a slightly pungent odor, otherwise tasted just fine served with chow. The very modest portion of home fries were fresh cut potatoes lightly grilled and lightly oily outside. The "oat mash/porridge" was very dense and quite good. In all, breakfast here was good, but not wow. As we were finishing up and getting ready to head out on the road again, the very high pitched smoke detector went off over the register area near the kitchen. The owner was using a serving tray to try to fan the heat under the smoke detector. "A small lesson in fire safety" remarked another customer. FREE WIFI with password

Inside it's a cute little casual place where they have fresh cut flowers on the table and they serve the food on mismatched china plates. Very cute. We stopped in for lunch and two of us has the sandwich special which was a chicken club. It came with some potato chips and a little cold slaw which was very good. One of us has the pulled pork burger which was bb pulled pork on top of a burger and they liked it. They said it was moist and not dry. We also had flavored iced coffee, chi iced tea and they made Italian soda in a variety of flavors. Over all the stop was a jem in the woods. And the ladies working there were lovely. Thanks ladies!

A big "hello" from Max made us feel like regulars, and the food didn't disappoint. Loved their lobster sandwich: big chunks of meat served on fresh ciabbata bread, with just the right touch of a honey-mustard sauce to bring out the lobster flavor. My wife had their veggie sandwich, served on the same tasty bread, and devoured with the same enthusiasm. Also had an expertly-drawn cappuccino. Would definitely recommend, whether you're by yourself, with your sweetheart, or with the whole family.

I remember The Coffee Bean of back in my years as a precocious youth in the 90s as being a very old…read moreschool, no frills café. Certainly not the quaint - dare I saw cool? - little cafe that is now. With branded merchandise, an espresso machine, and plants literally livening up the place, it seems that old dogs *can* learn new tricks! Or at least get new owners. Looking for a lunch that isn't fast food or a slice of pizza isn't an easy thing on a Monday in Pictou County, but I was glad when The Coffee Bean came to mind. Driving down just before noon to beat the lunch rush, I arrived to the remnants of the late morning coffee crew that were already situated, and no line in front of me. Perfect timing! I opted for the intriguing Mexican grilled cheese and an iced Americano to beat the heat. After a few minutes wait, I had my food and coffee in hand and hit the road home. My grilled cheese had a nice golden brown finish, and coming wrapped in paper kept it from steaming and getting too too soggy on the drive home. It was filled with a melty mix of cheeses, as well as a generous portion of diced onion, bell pepper and tomato, along with just the slightest hint of heat. The fresh veg added a pleasant brightness and crispness. The ice in the Americano barely lasted in the summer heat by the time I got home, but I appreciated that it wasn't 80% ice and 20% coffee like some. It's great to see new life breathed into The Coffee Bean, and I hope it continues to serve New Glaswegians (yes, that's our demonym), for yet another generation.

I chose well when I bought a delicious baked flourless granola bar. I am gluten intolerant and prefer healthier choices so this was the best option for me. My husband chose an egg and cheese sandwich on toasted fresh bread. The prices were reasonable, the service was prompt and the staff were friendly. I was disappointed with my Americano since it tasted bitter and "dirty" when it cooled down a little. I didn't finish it.

Baked goods permeate the ocean air that flows from the open windows. This is an order your meal at the counter then find a table format, which if you're not a local it's hard to figure out which i observed while waiting to order. I had a generous portion of a seafood chowder that was thick creamed based, overflowing with substantial seafood and not just potato fillers. Then came the obligatory lobster roll which was one of the best rolls I've had! I finished with a homemade coconut cream tartlet that was good but had a tad too much gelatin for my palate. I'm all about texture and taste. Overall, my meal was very good and satisfying. The location is off the highway so pay attention youmight miss it. Cafe area was clean and well kept. Bathrooms were super clean ( bonus for this road warrior ), plenty of parking and outdoor dog friendly tables that each have water bowls and treats. That always impresses me as i travel with my chocolate lab all the time and to be abe to eat with her is a big deal. After you eat you are surrounded by a bunch of anti-rooms filled with local touristic nick-knacks.
