I have been trying to go to Cassie's since May! My girls and I were supposed to go after my birthday brunch but things got turned around. Even after then I was never on that side of town when the store was open. Well today was my day!! I walked up and pulled the door and was excited that it opened. I heard a voice but didn't see anyone. A welcoming bubbly voice. A few seconds later Cassie appeared. Just as bubbly as her voice. I didn't know how anything worked so she explained the scents and what I could do. I first started smelling the oils. I quickly gravitated towards 3 scents. She put them on a swatch so that I could see how they smelled together. I loved them!! Up next was the home fragrance. I went over and started to smell scents because another gentleman came in to re-up on his fragrance. I smelled the Ocean Breeze first. I was sold on that one. I continued to smell other scents though. The ocean breeze smelled so clean and inviting. Cassie came over and once again explained to me how the lamp worked and even gave me a demonstration. Told me how many hours each size would last. By this time I'm invested!! Take my money please. So I picked a lamp and luckily enough it came with the fragrance I wanted. The only reason I didn't buy extra was because my husband is always looking for stuff to buy me. I will send him back when we need extra scent oils. I like eclectic stores. They appeal to my creative side and love of exploration - and Cassie's certainly has a lovely mix of items to discover! I recent stumbled into the boutique with my BFF as we were exploring the Central West End. As we walked around, I felt like we were on an unexpected treasure hunt. We kept exclaiming to each other, "Look at this!" Bonus: We both left with goodies that didn't necessarily break our pocketbooks! I found the most awesome, irreverent socks. When I posted pics on social media, several if my friends clamored to know where I had bought them. My BFF purchased fun totes decorated with playful graphics, along with some beauty products like hand creams and lip balms. How could I have forgotten to review Cassie's for so long?! Bah! I love this place! The gardenia oil here actually smells like gardenia - which is seemingly a hard thing to accomplish as it is so very rare! The lotions can all be scented with oil of your choice. Personally, I like the body care lotion. It really keeps my feet softened and it's not that expensive! I'm on my second bottle. Keep your bottles and bring them back to be refilled and you'll get a 20% discount! Cool and environmentally friendly! I always feel like I'm in an old time perfumery or apothecary shop when I come in because of all the fancy glass bottles holding the scents. It's just a very cool experience. Cassie's is one of our go-to spots in St. Louis. We discovered it by happen-chance when we lived in St. Louis 10+ years ago. Cassie and her team are always gracious hosts and make the shopping experience enjoyable. Our favorite is the scent bar which is a completely unique experience. Cassie has hundreds of perfume oil scents that you can mix to create a custom fragrance. The scent bar became a destination whenever we had friends and family in town. And before my wedding we had my bachelorette party at Cassie's and all my ladies made a special scent. I have made several scents throughout the years and Cassie always remembers me and my family whenever we come into the store. This weekend when in St. Louis visiting friends, we went to Cassie's of course, but had found it had moved to Ladue. No worries, we drove to Ladue only to find Cassie's doesn't open until Monday. Cassie was in the store preparing for the grand opening and I was able to get her attention. I told her I was in from out of town and explained that I had been given a list of scents to buy for the family (8 to be exact--she keeps formula cards for all the unique creations)! She immediately recognized me as part of the "Kentucky Browns" and even remembered details about my wedding. I finally visited Cassie's after driving by many times. At first I was not overly impressed. It's a two-room shop seems like just another boutique store, albeit with ritzier things one finds at the average store on Main Street in St. Charles. The scented candles, soaps, cute socks, etc. all cost a little more than I would want to pay when shopping for generic female gift items. Besides, I don't do a lot of shopping for generic female gift items; I usually get gifts for the ladies in my life at bookstores, wineries or chocolate shops because I know their tastes pretty well. This would have been a three-star review except that my friend started asking an employee questions about perfume oils when I approached the register with a 50% discounted sangria-scented candle ($7) in my hand. Then I saw the wall full of perfume oils in glass bottles that I hadn't even noticed when I entered the store. I was intrigued, but doubted I'd get anything, even though I could get a little roll-on bottle for only $13. I didn't really need any perfume; I had a couple of perfumes and body sprays at home. I started sampling the oils anyway and talked to the sales clerk about the scents. Turns out Cassie's will mix their dozens of oils in any combination you request. They'll put it on a test strip to be sure you'll like it first. Then they'll pour it in a glass bottle of your choosing. Finally, they'll ask you to give it a name (have a good name ready) to keep on file in case you can't remember what was in the mixture and they'll write the name on the bottle for you. I selected the smallest bottle, a roll on, because I wasn't sure how much I'd like my mixture of orange, tangerine and peach. So far, I like it a lot. It works for a long time. When I was walking around the CWE an hour later, I could still catch it on me. Other perfumes aren't like that. I think I'm going to use up the rest of my body spray and go Cassie's in the future. And now I guess I'm going to Cassie's for some not-so-generic gifts after all. read more

I can't believe Cassie's doesn't have more than 15 reviews. I absolutely love perfume, so this is heaven. I have bought personalized gifts and brought out-of-towners here so many times. You can customize a scent, and Cassie will help you tailor your fragrance to what you want and makes great recommendations as to how to make your fragrance better. I've gone through several bottles of perfume oil. Since it's oil and not full of alcohol, you can expect the fragrances to last for years(depending on what size you buy). And, when you wear the fragrance, it will stay fragrant on your skin much longer. One thing to be cautious about, if you're not familiar with the art of perfuming (base notes, top notes, etc.), you may end up making yourself a fragrance with all top notes, which will not last on your skin. Just be sure to ask someone to help you design a fragrance that will last. And, unexpectedly, her prices are affordable, especially considering how personalized the end product is. You can make your own custom fragrance for less than $20. Or, if you'd rather stick to the classics, there are ready made imitation fragrances. She also sells other brands and nail polish, lipstick, and all sorts of knick-knacks. I do have to agree with an earlier reviewer, the first couple of times I came in, I was definitely being watched like a hawk, regardless of who was at the front counter. But since I guess people started to recognize me from previous visits, it has been less of an issue. read more

I went here this afternoon looking for mother's and father's day gifts, prepared to drop as much money as necessary to find them awesome and unique things that would make them smile. However, I first found something I might like for myself without a price tag and asked the lady at the front how much it was. In front of the other customers, who she was quite chummy with, she asked coldly, "I dont know, you want it?" and, feeling awkward, I said, "uh, maybe?" and just had an overall feeling of weirdness and embarrassment from that interaction, like she thought it was strange that I cared how much it was and wanted everyone else to know. Buttt I'm not a mindreader and didn't want to jump to conclusions so I simply excused myself to the other room and browsed for about 10 minutes. I had just found a hilarious gift for my dad when the lady came in from the other room, came up to me and took my drink ( that had a lid on it) right out of my hand and said, "we have a place for your drink at the front of the store. You need 2 hands to shop anyway, and then the ice wont melt." Uh, what? I stood there stunned for a minute before telling her, "lovely store, have a nice day" and getting out of there. Tl;dr: If you dont fit a certain profile (ie you're a 28 year old that is commonly confused as a teenager because youre super short and small and don't wear a face fulla make up everyday) and she doesn't think you have money, she might be intrusive and passive aggressively enforce a rule about not carrying a drink with you in the store. A "may I take your drink? We have a policy about no food and drink in the store," would have been sufficient (and helped her keep my business.) read more

A cute little locally owned boutique in the Central West End that sells (mostly) really smelly stuff. I'm taking off two stars because I think it would be great if they focused a little less on the super perfumey stuff, and more on natural aromatherapy. A few friends and I went to St. Louis to visit my sister a couple years back and we stumbled upon Cassie's. (I'm from Oakland, CA) I am SO glad I found this place. I can only wear scented oils as I have a very sensitive nose for store bought perfumes with alcohol in it. Cassie's has a HUGE selection of yummy scented oils, and from what I remember the rest of the shop was very quaint. Her big fluffy cat wandering around purring at everybody is too sweet. It's the kind of place you can spend hours in. Anyway, I had bought the Egyptian Musk oil. I would wear the oil on a 'special' occasion since I only bought the 1/6 roll on oz. (not knowing just how much I'd LOVE it). Anyway, I ran out of it a few months back. Naturally out of convenience I tried searching for the same scented oil here with no such luck. I even bought another "Egyptian Musk" from another little shop in Oakland, and it smelled nothing like the one I bought from Cassie! It was terrible! With a couple phone calls and a little bit of luck I was able to find Cassie online. I called her and asked if she would ship to Oakland, she told me of course she would. I ordered more of my Egyptian Musk. I made the call on a Friday afternoon (not realizing the time difference until later), she mailed my oil out on a Saturday and I received it on a Monday. TWO days later! That's a quick turn time. When I opened the package she even included a sample of a new scented oil: Jade Iris, which smells so nice. I may even order that next time for variety. I called my friends who were visiting St. Louis with me also, and told about my experience. We have agreed that we are going straight to Cassie's from now on. Bought something for a friend but ended up not needing it, so I went to return in. They said that they do not do returns only exchanges, which is fine, not many boutiques do. I found some small candles, and other things. The girl that rung me up started smelling my candles. It was pretty odd, but hey, those candles did smell great. The part that made me uncomfortable was the boss blatantly pointed it out to the girl and in front of me. Then the boss tried to tap me on shoulders like people do when they laugh and make a joke sometimes. I get that she's trying to be friendly but I don't like being touched by someone that 1. Doesn't introduce herself or say that she's the owner / boss 2. I am not talking to or they aren't talking to me. It was overall awkward and uncomfortable. Then the boss was telling her how to do the exchange, well I asked what's the difference and the girl that rung me up said that I was short, but that it was okay. Well to be honest if I paid money for the stuff and I'm getting an exchange I should get what I paid for, not let them have money from me for nothing. So I asked to get something else and the girl was nice about it. It was still a very bizarre experience overall. The other time I went here, the employee kept following me around and asking if I needed anything every 2 minutes. It was my first time at that store, I just wanted to check it out but she made me feel weird that time too. I have been buying all my soap, oil, and lotion from here for the past 3 years. Today, I stopped in with my mother to introduce her to choosing your own unique blends of scents to make your own lotions. My mother ask if there was a restroom. We were told to go next door. So we did, but they were closed so we returned to Cassie's to then be told that there is a restroom on just about every corner with a smile. I looked at her and said, well I was going to buy lotion and soap today, but I will not be back. I have been to Cassies before were someone has asked and use the restroom and were accompanied. I get so overwhelmed when I go in here. There is ALWAYS so much stuff, and there is always something for everyone. It is the store that would be perfect for gifts and stuff to decorate your home with. It is pretty fun to browse around and take a look at the new soaps and scents. Lucky Ladue! Cassie's store has been an anchor store of the Central West End for over a decade (or two?). I have depended on her expertise in perfumes - she custom blends my favorite brand or she patiently lets me learn the notes I like for my personalized scent, which you can put in a perfume bottle or in a or spray or added to a variety of lotions and creams. Her Lampe Bergere collection is wonderful - the system was invented to clean the air in hospitals and now it freshens your home in many wonderful fragrances in beautiful bottles with wicks and safety covers. Cassie's service is always impeccable and as lovely as she is. Her curated collection of lotions, scents, candles, cards, bath products, jewelry, and great gifts will brighten anyone's day. She has men's products as well - I buy a shave cream for sensitive skin that my nephew swears by. I have depended on Cassie for being a great entrepreneur who's store far surpasses the chain stores that have followed. It is the Central West End's loss but Ladue's gain.
