The boutique is run by a mother-daughter team and boasts a well-edited selection of going out dresses as well as day dresses, at a variety of sizes and price points. I love that this store carries Shoshanna dresses. In fact, three of the (confessedly many) dresses that I have bought from here are Shoshanna. I have always received compliments on my purchases from here. In addition to dresses, the accessories selection is unique and includes Kenneth Jay Lane (mainly clutches, rings) as well as some lesser-known labels. McLaughlin offers clothing for men, women, and kids. I didn't see many kids selections in evidence, but the array of clothing and accessories for men and women was ample, and supplemented by a robust sale selection. My mom (shopping partner in crime) and I had fun leisurely perusing the racks. In fact, my mother, who has lived in the area for 15+ years, had never been inside this location of J. McLaughlin. When it came to trying items on, Lynn, the sales associate, was very helpful in terms of placing my items in a fitting room and hunting down alternate sizes both in stock and via the store's computer. I found a couple of items, both on sale (!) that will transition nicely through the seasons. The Sophia Jersey dress in gold and navy is one that I can see pairing with boots and tights in the winter or a simple pair of nude heels in the warmer months. I also snapped up a lightweight cashmere cardigan in coral that promises to brighten the gloomiest of January days. The length is a little bit longer, which I like, and will work well even when the weather warms up. Will definitely be back here and plan to check out the Lake Forest outpost in between visits.

But what really stands out is their cute formal dress section on the second level! Perfect for prom, wedding guest, bridesmaid etc. They have floor length dresses for $35 and shorter dresses for $25. They even have a few floor length wedding gowns for brides for $100!! (Plus a section for mother of the bride dresses). I've gotten 2 formal dresses here so far with lots of compliments (wore one on a beachy vacation and another as a destination wedding guest)!! I visited again this week as I thought I'd look for a wedding dress here since they have super affordable options. I didn't end up finding a dress in my size since they only have a few but it was still really impressive they had some in stock at all! And at this price point. There were some beautiful dresses in smaller sizes as well with big princess-like ballgown-style trains. They also accept donations. You can either get a tax receipt or a $5 off coupon! The staff there have also been very friendly every time I've gone!! They have the store decorated currently for their prom season--girls who are in foster care who are accepted into their program get to shop for a prom dress for free! So cool!
