The truffle pasta was okay also and the risotto dish came with a big piece of Osso bucco, was not expecting to have a big piece of Osso bucco, I thought it would be bone off. But I can say that the creme brulee was really good The service was actually amazing, the waiter was really friendly. This place seemed to be more of a place for groups, they had private rooms.

Stopped in on a beautiful sunny Saturday in April. I was hesitant to even go in as the clientele…read morewere mostly on the older side. No shade to older people, but we were with our 18 and 20 year old kids and the vibe was kinda vanilla. We were pretty hungry so decided to give it a go. Firstly, we are from Ontario and are not fluent in French. We will make the effort to do our best but usually the servers will just speak English, which we appreciate! Our server this day was just not the friendliest. She seemed annoyed with us from the get go. Whether it was our subpar attempt at speaking French or not, who knows. Definitely couldn't have been a reflection of our attitudes as we always go out of our way to be super respectful of people in the service industry as we have all worked in it in some capacity. The place was not very busy so it's not like she was slammed with orders. She took our order and then disappeared for 45 minutes lol. People were being served all around us but it seemed as though we had been forgotten. Our order was not complicated (2 Greek salads, and two chicken skewer plates). When our meal finally arrived, I was honestly shocked. The "village Greek salad" or however they called it was just tasteless. Huge pieces of pepper, huge pieces of tomato, some cucumber, minuscule feta and a few olives tossed in for good measure and the most pathetic gathering of lettuce underneath it all. Barely any oil, zero vinegar. It was just laughable. Server was nowhere to be seen so I couldn't ask for some extra oil and vinegar. Not once did she come by to see how we were doing or ask if we needed anything. Just couldn't be bothered, I guess. The chicken skewer platters were tasty enough but definitely nothing to write home about. We won't be returning on future visits to Montreal. The outside patio is cute but that was the only positive about our experience. Even trying to pay was a huge hassle as the server had seemingly disappeared and we waited for almost ten minutes until she showed her face. When she printed the bill, made an "are you stupid?" face as she was standing a bit further away from me and basically called me over like I was a dog. We still tipped her (15% instead of our usual of 22%) (my kids are extremely unhappy that I tipped at all) but we will never recommend this place to friends or family coming in from out of town. We visit Montreal quite a lot and frequent a lot of places but this is one that you can absolutely skip.

I wasn't sure how our evening at Le Petit Alep would develop. Some reviews said "casual," some said…read more"classy." I think it's a little of both, perhaps depending on where in the restaurant you sit. We were seated in the front on the side, which we appreciated on a very humid evening. Rather than order off the menu, our server created a sampler platter for us which included popular offerings for each course. The food got better and better as we proceeded through the courses, our favorite was the chicken skewers. Food and drink total came right in the range quoted by our server. One unexpected thing was the pita for our second course (which included hummus). It was delivered in a plastic bag. So we were unsure if the logo on the bag was where it was made. We didn't use all of ours, so when we were done with the course, they took it away. What do they do with the unused pita? Is it thrown away? Is the bag refilled and given to the next customer? Did we get a bag from earlier customers? Two other observations: We ordered a 500ml carafe of wine. We were allowed to sample it first, and the sample was chilled. The carafe we were served was significantly less chilled, and the insulation inside the container in which the carafe was delivered was not cool to the touch. The wine was still very good, but it would have been even more enjoyable a few degrees cooler. Also, even though cuisine is billed as Syrian, our server mentioned "Armenian" several times (this is not an issue at all). The only thing we didn't like was the humidity. If that is a concern to you, ask to be seated near one of the ceiling fans.

My brother and I split dinner choices when planning our trip to Montreal; Le Petit Alep was one of…read morehis choices, as he saw it in the Michelin Guide and wanted to check it out. The menu and vibe looked good, so we made dinner plans here our second night in the city. Le Petit Alep is located close to the Petite-Italie section of Montreal. When we arrived we actually went into the wrong restaurant - Le Petit Alep is on the left, and then Restaurant Alep is on the right. We were told that they're owned by the same people and share a kitchen, but are two separate restaurants - oops. Anyway, once we found our way we were seated promptly. The dining room was tastefully decorated, with warm colors that gave it an eclectic feel without being overwhelming. There was also a good amount of space so we weren't on top of each other. The menu is Middle Eastern - specifically Armenian and Syrian. It's broken up into different sections based on type of dish and size, though they also offer a tasting menu. We opted for a la carte, so our server explained how each dish was meant to be shared and gave recommendations based on our party size. We decided to get several dishes - métabal and mouhamara dips, spicy toshka grilled pita, Armenian sausage, and chiche kabab terbialy. We opted for dessert, and went with the cream stuffed atayef. Everything was delicious; I was particularly impressed with how well each dish was seasoned and the tenderness of the meats. It was hard for me to determine what was my favorite, but I would say the sausages and the grilled pita were the best if I had to choose. The atayef had the making to be heavy, but was surprisingly not and proved to be a great finisher. I really only scratched the surface here - the menu is really extensive so I feel you can make several trips and consistently try something new. Service was great, we leaned on our waiter to make some recommendations regarding the amount and combo of dishes to get and he really came through. Overall, I had a great experience at Le Petit Alep - definitely worth checking out.
