    Casper sauerkraut dog

A great old hot dog chain I believe it originated in Oakland California. I used to buy Casper Hot Dogs in bulk at Costco . If you like old fashioned hot dogs with the snap casings, this is the restaurant for it. I always liked the sauerkraut and their chili cheese dogs with onions.

When you're craving a hot dog in the bay this is the spot to go to. Can't go wrong with their chili cheese dog or cheese dog with fresh tomatoes. Always hits the spot and the hot dogs are always fresh. If you like that snap in your hot dogs this is the place. Counter staff here is always nice and friendly. Establishment has the old school vibe still which I love and appreciate. I like they still have the counters to sit at. One thing I wish they brought back was the tamales and the orange drink. Overall prices are decent and parking in the park can get busy during certain hours.

Very happy this place is still thriving . Had a quick sit in bite here today on a Friday afternoon in summer. No mine, they have DoorDash signs everywhere so looks like there's big. The employees have a huge tip jar that is overflowing so you kinda know the service will be adequate. Downtown old Dublin next to car shops and various small businesses, across from the post office . The menu is really small I don't think they have nachos anymore damn. There used to be a Casper's in Newark ( my hometown)next to Memorial and NewPark Mall. Lot of them have closed up shop like the Walnut Creek one now it's a Jersey Mikes. I orders the police with cheese. Not very healthy but not greasy either . It filled my stomach. I wish they had better chips these are the exact same chips box you get at Costcos. When I'm craving hot dogs I either go here or Weinersnitzel their prices have seemed to gone up too almost the same prices here. The interior and exterior is nostalgic and has the blast from the past vibe. I am happy to spend my money here because the hot dogs are good and satisfy my dog cravings. Please don't close , stay here with same menu and service your known for .

This was my soggy, cold "all beef 1/4" hotdog...

I was excited to try Casper's because they had good reviews. I was especially persuaded by the few reviews that say they have been eating here for over 50 years.... Food: 1/10 All beef 1/4 hotdog: I ordered the "All beef" 1/4 hotdog with ketchup, mustard, relish and saurkraut. The buns were cold and soggy. The hotdog was cold and tasteless. It didn't have that crunch that Casper's is known for. And they forgot to put ketchup. I took 2 bites and threw it in the garbage. Service: 2/10 I was already hesitant to come inside because the guy working was smoking outside and the other guy picked up a box of pizza from the top of the trash can. But decided to try Casper's despite my instincts. I came in on a Tuesday afternoon. I walked inside and was the only one in the restaurant. There was a girl by the register. She took my order and seemed puzzled that I asked for the "all beef" hotdog. She asking the guy questions. The service or lack thereof was poor. And it felt cold. Ambiance: 6/10 This restaurant has been around since 1972. And it looks like it hasn't been updated since. I like the retro feel but I think it needs a lot of deep cleaning... * I don't think I will be a repeat customer. I was extremely disappointed in the quality of the food and service. Serving cold food is unacceptable...

    Casper Dog with everything.

Headed her for lunch the other day. I had heard about this place, and decided some hot dogs would hit the spot. Walked in, placed our order and was on our way. I went with 2 Casper Dogs with everything on them (mustard, relish, onion, tomato) and my Mom went with one. Had a Coke to drink. I liked the dogs! They were a natural casing dog, pretty long, too! They cut the onions and tomatoes in a half moon shape and stuff them in the buns. Most bites had a good clean bite of tomato, onion, dog, mustard and relish. I really enjoyed them! $4.99 each, which is a little steep, but they were bigger dogs than normal, so it was worth it. Staff was friendly. Would probably be my local hot dog spot if I lived up here.

Do they no longer offer tamales?

Hi Jaime - Unfortunately, our tamale maker went out of business. We have yet to find a replacement product that meets our standards, so we’ve taken them off our menu.

The bun was a decent size to hold everything, but a little too much bread. The American cheese was standard quality, thin but melts well with the heat of the dog. All the toppings were fresh (Lettuce, Tomato, Diced Onions, Pickle Spear). I think the lettuce isn't needed, I'll skip that next time. The Bacon Bits are fresh made good quality smoked bacon, decent size cut, good stuff. The Yum Yum Sauce is their secret sauce, but it was very light and I didn't notice the flavor that much. I assume it is a mayo and paprika based with other spices, not sure. Maybe I'll order on the side next time. The fries are decent restaurant quality, the kind that has a coating of potatoe flour to give some extra texture and crunch, served hot. I think they fry them fresh for the order, nice touch! Raspberry lemonade (min bottle simply company) it was decent, nothing special. Until next time...

I was shocked to see the restaurant pretty crowded for so late on a Thursday night. It was loud and busting in here. We sat at the bar. At first the bartender was attentive. Got our first order of rinks and food. Once the food came out she came by to ask if everything was fine and it was. We noticed a lot of regulars came in as she knew people by name. However, we finished our first drink and wanted a 2nd, but she never came back. We see her attending her regulars and neglecting us on our side of the bar. She walked by a couple times and we tried to get her attention by raising our hand and saying "excuse me" but she ignored us or did not notice. 20 mins of this and we were frustrated. The regular next to us noticed and saw us this whole time. So he said "JULIE!" and she came over and he said they need you. And at this time we just said give us the check and a box. We did not want another drink anymore and just wanted to get out of there. The guy said to just call her name next time if this happens again. I just felt like she enjoyed talking to her regulars a lot more and catering to them. The food was only okayyyy. The chicken lettuce and too much of that cheep crunchy thing and not enough meat and other stuff. I liked the tater tots though. Maybe I will go again, idk. We will see.

Not sure how long this burger joint has been here, but I've always known of it by passing by many, many times over the course of 30+ years. But only tried just recently. There's seating both inside and outside. Inside the walls are totally covered with pictures of classic cars/trucks and interestingly enough of horse racing culture, since the county fairgrounds are super nearby. Pics of horses from past generations and their jockeys and owners. I thought that was an interesting local imprint. Mushroom Swiss Burger ($11/4*) So 'giant burger' is in their name. Even though the patty itself isn't monstrous, maybe a 1/3 lb at most, it is quite sizeable, much bigger than most fast food versions. After scarfing down my burger, I'd say I was slightly fuller than eating a double at In & Out. But this was also almost double on what I'd pay at In & Out. But since I'm a quintessential old schooler myself, I'll pay this price of admission here, no prob. The Burger Patty: Nice and juicy. Good quality and just flat top griddled. I had to season my patty with a little salt n pep from those packets. There's a special sauce that flavors the sandwich, a mayo/ketchup blend is my guess. The Produce: They use shredded lettuce and everything was quite fresh. Just very messy as lots of things will spill out on each bite. The cooked mushrooms were a little light but still noticeable in most bites. The Cheese: The 'swiss' labeled is basically a white colored American cheese, super soft and gooey. Not my fave, but a burger may be the only time I welcome American cheese. The Bun: They use basic sesame American buns. Super factory quality, but again for the basic American burger experience, I think this is fine. Just wished they toasted it more, as it became a mushy mess after even just halfway through. I'd say the bun was my least favorite aspect of this burger experience. Onion Rings ($7ish/5*): My friend said he saw them use a frozen product to drop in the fryer. But damn this was one of the best onion rings I've ever had from a burger joint. Super crisp, just oily enough and no artificial factory flavor. I could taste the onion and the crisp batter, and that batter stayed crisp for the whole meal, even after it cooled a bit. These are a must here. Fries: I tried a small handful from my friends bag as we were sharing our sides. They are of medium thickness and they crisp them nice. They also salt them with a good shake, and the oil they use seemed very clean. Even at Mc Donalds I'll often get grossed out by fries cooked in old oil. Blech! Not here, quite proper. I'm throwing them a fiver, just to show that a fiver doesn't have to be mind-blowing or life changing. Just has to fulfill expectations with a smile, and make me leave satisfied and happy. Check, check...and check!
