I'm shocked there no reviews of this hotel--why? I loved our stay here! It's not an intimate…read moreboutique place; it's a full service hotel with all the amenities you'd want and expect from an international chain. What blew me away is that unlike many large chains, all the staff were very warm and friendly, not at all stiff or formal, not stuffy. It's a difficult balance, to be genteel and kind but also totally on top of your game, and this balance every single person we encountered during our 4 night stay, everyone was fantastic. The concierge, no matter who was on duty, always helpful, smiling and super responsive. The housekeeping staff also on top of everything. I loved their pillow menu, which had about 4 different choices of densities and sizes. On the morning of our checkout, because we had an early morning flight and couldn't go down to breakfast, they had a massive, complete breakfast sent up to our room, free of charge. Each morning the buffet, included in the price of our room, was extravagant and complete, everything from freshly baked breads and pastries to cereals and yogurts. All types of fresh fruit, hot entrees such as meats and eggs. Maybe it was the proximity to Spain or they might have artificially sweetened it, but this was hands down the sweetest, most glorious nectar of the gods orange juice I'd ever had. If they poured a vat of sugar in it, I don't care. Ignorance was truly bliss because I got to drink it by the gallon. This was my first introduction to what the Europeans call "coffee," which is more what we Americans term "espresso," and it was divine, especially with hot milk, which they always brought. The interior of the entire place was gilded and opulent, beautifully appointed marble bathrooms, tubs and showers. We had a fantastic view of the main square, sweeping vistas. The corridors carpeted with whooshing elevators and high end shops end to end on the ground floor. They have the requisite massage and fitness stuff as well and though we didn't use these, it gives you an idea of how full scale they are. The ornate architectural details were a treat, e.g. a winding, spiral staircase with graduated steps leading down from the lobby, carpeted in a blazing ruby, a Persian motif. The single best thing about this hotel? The customer service. I love love love how they managed to be warm and kind, sweet and friendly, not at all stuffy, they didn't put on fake airs, just real down to earth people--the hotel does justice to the beauty of the Portuguese people.
