She'll program her 2500 lb. embroidery machines to stitch elephants and bears onto onesies and mascots onto blankets. She'll put your initials on a square lampshade, but not a round one, because her machines can't handle it. In short, she can (and does) monogram just about anything at her cozy East Memphis shop, Monograms By Cie. If it's cloth, Monograms by Cie can most likely embroider on it. They'll do work on fur, on fuzzy blankets and on Snuggies. While the shop has some inventory (mostly baby pillows, blankets, stuffed animals and tea towels), 90 percent of the work that Chase and her assistants do is on items brought in by clients. They bring in their sheets, towels or clothing, pick a font or image from a series of 3 inch binders and Chase and Samantha get to work. Monograms by Cie is open Monday -Wednesday from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. The clean, cozy shop is the perfect place to bring gifts that need to be made just a little more special or clothing that needs some identification.

Drake Cleaners called back with an estimate within a couple of hours explaining that the leather would be sent out and an explanation of what was needed. I would expect this from any local cleaner that's been around for awhile. BUT THEN I asked Mitch (I think that was the name?) if he honestly thought it was worth the $150 minimum to fix it (zipper + all of the imperfections that I hadn't really noticed). He joked that as much as he'd like to have my money, it really probably was not worth it considering the cost of a new leather jacket nowadays (unless the jacket had sentimental value, which it does not). NOW THAT is some good honest business dealings. I do believe I will travel the extra couple blocks from my old dry cleaners (+ alterations) over to Drake now because they are good people. :)

She met with us, gave us estimates of yardage needed and a firm quote on the labor as well as pick up and delivery. We chose our fabric and purchased it and has it ready when the pickup day arrived. No surprises about cost and the quality of the work is superb. Now the heirloom sofa and chair from my late "favorite" aunt has a fabric that my wife doesn't hate. In fact, she loves it. We both do. Now, the furniture is a fond memory of ours, as well as part of my history. These projects take forever whatever you do. In a Covid influenced world, everyone's schedule gets out of control. However, not many over sold vendors would hold a reasonable price AND maintain high quality. If those things are important to you, rely on Mary's. It's worth the wait, and waiting is a given whom ever you choose.

What a find! Alicia…read morewas professional, experienced, and did a spectacular job on my sequined wedding dress! I changed my mind to dress number four (no, seriously, I went through four wedding dresses before I made up my mind). To add to my wedding stress, I am a double mastectomy breast cancer survivor, and the dress I bought at David's Bridal had a neckline that plunged too far for my new anatomy. My regular seamstress was going on vacation, and I was rushing around Memphis to find someone who could fix the neckline and under the arms for me. The wedding was two weeks away! Thankfully a quick internet search in my area led me to Alicia's Alterations in Germantown. I went in with my dress (no appointment, which I don't recommend--she is extremely busy) and hoped for the best. I knew within minutes of meeting her that she would help me and she did. I made a few failed runs to a fabric store to purchase the netting needed to make the needed alterations. I left her shop feeling confident that my dress would be perfect. The fabrics I chose were the wrong type (something about Lyrica being needed) so she went shopping for me! Above and beyond--she's gold. Alicia finished the necessary alterations on my dress in A WEEK and it fit me like a glove. No easy feat, because I am plus sized with the accompanying mastectomy/bra issues. And....she is affordable! I was shocked at how reasonable the final cost was. Each time I look at my beautiful wedding photos, I am reminded of Alicia's skill and kindness, doing the alteration with so little notice, with sequins and all, in wedding season. She is now my new seamstress, and I am so grateful for her. Thank you so much, Alicia!
