The Food They are known for their hand-stretched pizza, and the crust is definitely the highlight. It has that perfect chew and char. The Pizza Bowls: A great option if you're trying to stay low-carb but still want all the pizza flavors. Taco Tuesday: If you're lucky enough to be there on the 2nd or 4th Tuesday of the month, the tacos are a must-try. Just a heads up--they usually only do tacos on those nights, so no pizza then! The Vibe It's a cozy, "hole-in-the-wall" kind of place in the best way possible. It's where the locals hang out, and the staff is incredibly welcoming to travelers. Because they are only open for a few hours in the evening (5 PM - 8 PM), it can get busy quickly, so showing up early is a good move. Things to Know Hours: They have a short window, so plan your drive accordingly! Parking: Plenty of easy street parking right in front. Takeout: They do a brisk carry-out business if you're just passing through on the I-35 and want a better meal than typical fast food.

Not only was my order not ready and waiting, it hadn't even been started. On top of that there was a fella waiting (patiently & being ignored by kitchen staff) ahead of me and his order hadn't been started either! Thennn the kitchen sprang to life. Replete with attitude, and excuses. To make things even worse, a Grandpa came in with his two granddaughters & come to find out he had actually ordered before me! The first fella couldn't wait, and frustratingly cancelled his order. Grandpa and I talked while we waited. He was in town visiting family from Kansas City and was understandably surprised by the fact that a slow, small town Casey's was having trouble getting a few orders out, when much busier stores in his neck of the woods preform far better. I agreed and shared my experience working in a fast paced, very busy pizzaria during college. Our conversation ended with "good help is hard to find" of course. The only employees that seemed to care about our situation (by now two more families had come in and were waiting as well), were the cashiers on duty. I didn't catch both of their names, but the most helpful of the two was named Ashley. They genuinely wanted, and tried to help. Model employees both. My order was finally ready around quarter after two. I realize that 20 minutes longer isn't an extremely long period of time to wait, when a place is busy, but it of course wasn't. Not when I arrived and caught them slacking anyway. A piece of advice; if you're not ahead in a kitchen, you're already behind!

Well, let's just start out by saying, "Hey, it's Pizza Hut." That means different things to…read moredifferent people, but to me it means mediocre food and that's what we received. This Pizza Hut is one of just a handful of places not far from the highway between KC and Des Moines and is likely one of the better options, but still, not exactly a gourmet experience. The hubby and I stopped in on our way home from Iowa and since we'd had pizza the night before, we both decided to go another direction. They do have a salad bar, and that would have been my first choice if it were a decent salad bar, but the options on the salad bar were pretty sparse. I ended up having a sammy that was ok, but left me wishing I'd stopped at the Subway next door. The hubby had wings and fries and he thought they were ok, but complained that the wings were too saucy. When we arrived, the place wasn't very busy, but within about 15 minutes, it was hoppin'. With only one waitress for the entire restaurant, service slowed to a snail's pace. I wouldn't recommend coming here during peak hours, but if you need a snack in the mid-afternoon, probably not a bad option and it's not far off I-35.

The restaurant was clean, the service was attentive and the pizza was good. Usually Pizza Hut pizza is sloppily created and tastes like it. No this one. The pizza looked, smelled and tasted great. What a wonderful surprise. I have to rate this 4 of 5 stars. I would have given them a 9 out of 10 on a scale of 1-10.

My work colleagues and I got sat and were informed of a long wait as there was only one server - cool. No problem. It happens. We are sitting about 20 minutes when a table of 8 gets sat next to us. The cook immediately came from behind the counter to bring water for them. We were still sitting there with nothing. Our server came over - apologized and got our orders and brought out our drinks. Our salads came out and all was well. Then we waited and waited. We were informed that one of the potato pizzas we ordered couldn't be made because they were out of potatoes. No big deal. We changed the order. Then the group next us - who came in 20 minutes after us and ordered after us all got served their pizzas(including a few potato pizzas). While we waited and was not served. Finally realizing that our diverse group of 5 was being shafted for the very non-diverse group of 8 we asked for our pizzas to go and we left. So if the intention of Il Lazzarone was to make us feel sidelined and "othered" - congratulations. Job well done. Because we left there being reminded of just how how bigotry feels. The pizzas was still great in my hotel room. But you will never see a recommendation from me or dime of my money again.

It wasn't far at all from I-29 and we were not disappointed. We were greeted by Courtney upon entering the business, quickly and thoughtfully seated in a quiet corner away from the potential drafts of the front door as it was cold outside. Her suggestions were spot on and we had the Ceaser Salad and Bruschetta to start. Healthy portions and fresh ingredients for sure. Then we had two pizzas and it was perfect considering we had a couple of big eaters and we were hungry. Prices are fair and reasonable for the quality and quantity. Plenty of parking off street, nice people, clean and hospitable. I highly recommend Il Lazzarone and we will be back the next time in the area.
