Forever the best. This place has always had the best pizza. The crust is amazing and I'm so happy to taste that it's still the same! The Louisiana hot sauce tradition is alive and well and the place looks great. A little nostalgia & the best pizza in the world (I've checked.) I would drive hours just to get this pizza and really appreciate that it still lives up to the goodness of my high school and college years 20 years ago! We visited "The Shack" as a tradition when in town for College (now University) activities over many of those years. The Hampton family established a go-to eatery with a fun atmosphere, great food and friendly service. The newer owner, James, has maintained the qualities that have made the Shack a great University diversion--and expanded on them. I normally give this 5 stars but my last visit was during the homecoming and I think they were a little understaffed. The service was extremely slow but the pizza is always excellent. I was going to wait my hour for it, can't get out of there without at least having it once. that was on Friday night, and I even went back Saturday night before I headed home to take one in the car and eat it. That's kind of a tradition as well. Definitely recommend the Hawaiian if you like that kind of pizza. read more

We are from out of state driving on backrooms to enjoy the state. Stopped by we were welcomed even close to closing on a Sunday. The atmosphere was retro and grand. The owner what a great human! Great atmosphere and offer several pizza variations. They do offer other options if your not looking at just pizza.

I don't review many places, although I always read reviews and decide where to eat based upon them. I usually limit my thoughts to places I feel are underrated in some way. I wanted to review this place as a person "not from 'round these parts" that had a very positive experience at the Pizza Shack. My husband and I were visiting my son, who attends Graceland University. The second we walked in, my husband and James started talking and they were so engaged in conversation that we didn't order our pizza for like 15 minutes. I was impressed they had a craft IPA from a Des Moines brewery. The pizza was excellent and I really loved the humor of the location. The following sign and picture were in the ladies room. Definitely made me laugh. They even have a booth with movie chairs and a curtain you can close. So fun!! read more

Pizza Shack is a really fun snd cozy place to eat. It's a great place to go to relax and eat good food. They have a decently large menu for things from just pizza to wings or taco salads.The food isn't too expensive for the quality that you get and they don't take very long to cook your meal. I personally love the staff who work there. They are such enjoyable and relaxed people and they are good at their jobs. Over all Pizza Shack is an awesome addition to its community. read more

They do not like "non locals" I had to stay in town for a job.... I paid for "the works" qauseda one plate (delivered to a local hotel) and did not receive menue described meat (paid extra for taco meat).... the second plate I had added chicken (Greek salad with no meat originally) which was the only plate I wanted but I had to buy enough for them to make the delivery.... and the last plate was a double bean and beef burrito plate (all bean).... then I made the delivery guy take two extra dollars for a grand total of +/- $25 ...delivery minimum was $14 but I wanted to support businesses during the virus.... I guess I'll stick to pizza hut Called to discuss the fact that I did not receive what I paid for (and that the order arrived late). They admitted that they messed up...and told me they were busy ..... that's it....no sorry, no "come back and we'll make it right", nothing.... Anyone that grew up in Lamoni can't give a purely objective review of this place. The truth is it's a permanent part of my dining and restaurant mythos. I went through phases in this menu like haircuts and Eastbay sneakers. I remember my 7" pepperoni phase, my Taco Tuesday phase, my turkey sammich w/ ranch phase. Louisiana hot sauce will always be my First, that I diverge from only to eventually come back. It was my first jukebox and arcade machine (Joust!). It had the only stoplight in the county. Its pizza was social currency: hook someone up with extra pepperoni and your high school life went a little better that week. You could trade your free pizza from working a shift for the free 6" from your buddy working Subway. It was the glue that held us together. But through it all, the crown jewel of this place is the hot nacho cheese. I've yet to find it's match anywhere on this earth. So in the end, Pizza Shack you get the same review anyone could give their own hometown. It was the best and worst of times and I will always remember you. read more

This place used to be great, back in the day when Carlos Bootman used to work there. The man made a great pie! Now it's just mediocre. I would stop in for taco Tuesday though. Great deal for the Graceland student on a shoestring budget. Don't even think about getting booze in this place though. Lamoni is about as friendly to drinking as there is water in the Sahara desert. Good little spot to grab some food and have some laughs. But seriously guys...find Bootman and bring him back...the place isn't the same without him! read more

You can't go to Lamoni without making a stop at the Shack! Not the world's greatest pizza, but it's good and the prices are nice. This place hasn't been updated in years and that adds to the charm. They close in the middle of the afternoon, probably because it's a small town and there isn't enough business at that time of day, but that just makes it even more worth it when they do unlock the doors again for dinner. Definitely a culture shock by far. Since I am hispanic, coming to this restaurant was very uncomfortable. It felt as if my family & I weren't welcome. Definitely a hostile environment. I'm a local and my wife and I love eating here. The pizza is characterized as being light on tomato sauce, light on oil, and a great flavor. We like the taco pizza with packets of sour cream and taco sauce you put on yourself. I also love the 7 inch pepperoni (I ask for thin crust too, which is all the more crispy and tasty). We like the hot nachos while waiting. The place is under new management and is remodeled for self serve drinks and large screen TVs on sports channels for those interested in watching. I like the new manager who brings humor, energy, ideas, and hands-on attention to the operation, while keeping the ambiance and type of pizza. Pizza Shack continues to be the gathering spot for Graceland University students, returning alumni, and locals. read more

Have been eating here since I was a toddler and now only get the chance to come back a couple of times per year. I dream about the hamburger and mushroom pizza. Unfortunately the hamburger now seems to be the refrigerated processed kind rather than the freshly browned ground beef used in the past. Please consider going back to the original hamburger!
