How I heard of this place: Our family of locals, my brother-in-law used to eat here after high…read moreschool football games. We made sure to sample its thin-crust goodness. Type of cuisine: "In 1959 the Monical family started making pizzas in the little town of Tolono, Illinois. Before long, their recipe became a hit with many of their local friends and neighbors. Thus was born Monical's Pizza®, a name that over the years has become synonymous locally with the very finest thin crust pizza." Ambiance: The stand-alone building welcomes patrons into an unpretentious, family-friendly space with comfortable booth- as well as wooden chair-seating for parties of all sizes. Place your order at the counter as you enter the premises, and find your way back to the dining area, where a friendly server will greet you with your beverages, salads and pizzas, in that order. What I ordered: Being a family of four, we decided to order The Family Pleaser ($29.01, including tax), which offered a pitcher of Root Beer (our pop of choice), a Garden Salad with iceberg lettuce, shredded carrots, diced tomatoes and grated cheddar cheese, and a 16″ thin crust pizza topped with our selection of minced garlic, sausage, green bell peppers, and mushrooms. What I loved: The local favorite: red sauce in a squeeze bottle to enjoy on salads, pizza, and presumably anything else that makes its way out of the kitchen! Why I loved it: A true local space, where the old ladies meet to play bridge and the servers are high school teenagers earning a dollar on their days off. Friendly service and delicious food to boot! Cost: Average to high ($8 - $20 per pizza)

My husband and I also ordered a large pizza, which was barely cooked, and our breadsticks were cold and hard. I actually stopped eating here over a year ago, but decided to give it another try since my kids received free vouchers from school. Sadly, the experience didn't improve, and we won't be returning. I'd much rather make the drive to Pontiac, where both the food and service are far better. It's called family pleaser and it did not please any of us

There was no Italian beef, no green peppers, and no onions. I ate a burnt, rock hard sausage pizza. I paid $2 for each topping that I didn't get. The "owner" called me and was very rude. I can immediately hear the aggression in his voice. We ordered the pizza using the app, Slice. He stated he heard my recorded phone conversations with slice and he doesn't believe any of it all. He said I refuse to refund one single penny and the only thing I'll do is remake it. Remake it so he can spit on it? It's now 8pm, and too late for another pizza. I said honestly, after this experience, I'd never order from you guys again. He snidely says, breaking up is hard to do isn't it? I mean how do you keep customers coming back by burning bridges like that? I said why are you being that way? He just says do you want the pizza remade or not? I said no and hung up. Slice can't do refunds. I'd definitely not order from this place ever again. If you take your chances ordering from them, you've been warned. Look at my pictures and tell me if you see any Italian beef or vegetables on that pizza? Imagine that nice hard burnt crust cracking off a tooth as well.
