    The Omelette Wrap (close-up!)
    Scott E.

Do not fear. This is not the same Casey for whom "Ten thousand eyes were on him as he rubbed his eyes with dirt [and] Five thousand tongues applauded when he wiped them on his shirt" in the 1888 poem by Ernest Lawrence Thayer "Casey at the Bat." On that day and in that poem, the Mighty Casey struck out. Here at Casey's Coffee, unlike those rooting for the Mudville Nine, you will not leave disappointed. A hop and a skip across Campus Way from the University of Maryland, Casey's Coffee serves up lattes, cold brews, and pulpy orange juices that are sure to satisfy. For breakfast , one cannot go wrong with the omelette wrap (with eggs, ham, Swiss Cheese, spinach, tomatoes, shredded carrots, red onions, and just enough salsa). For lunch, it's the Ocean Grill (Albacore Tuna Salad with Swiss and Provolone Cheese, fresh sweet basil, grilled on Sesame Kaiser).

I find this place under-rated and their expresso drinks are wayyy better than Starbucks'. Iced latte is my favorite. The service here is attentive and orders are pushed out quickly. I don't like the almond croissant here but I will recommend the combo (half sandwich + small soup or salad + half pickle + a small bag of chips) or the shrimp salad sandwich! BTW they now do have 2% milk

Service is great. Warm smiles and warm coffee go a long way. And the apple turnover is legit.

I had a fresh squeezed juice and some jerk wings. Also a curry goat patty. Their patties are fresh made. I watched one of the owners literally crimping the stuffed edges myself yesterday. The fruit used in all the juices is equally fresh. Fresh, fresh, fresh. They do curry chicken, curry goat, queso fresco, oxtail all in their lineup. An assortment of entrees too. The owners are four Jamaican guys who own both businesses. The ingredients are fresh and the seasonings are on point. Good guys with two good businesses. Solaire Social Food Court.... terrific ambiance. Very clean open space right in the heart of downtown Silver Spring. This food court has a Thai restaurant ....a brick oven pizza place.... West African restaurant....a vegan spot AND a bar.... all as an assortment of complimentary businesses.

Otherwise if you're able to go to their food restaurant called Passport Eatz in the same food hall, I'd totally recommend the oxtail fries, the silver spring sandwich, and the lemon pepper wings. I stopped by during their grand opening, so service was pretty slow then, but everyone was nice, and I'm sure things have picked up since then.

While there were napkins included, they were tossed at the bottom of the bag and difficult to retrieve. As for the food, the compact bowl made it hard to enjoy. The granola dominated the portion, with the acai base and frozen fruits (strawberries, blueberries, bananas) feeling secondary. I expected the toppings to highlight the acai, but instead, it felt like I had to dig for the base. The granola was salty and nutty but became jam-like when mixed, which disrupted the texture balance. The frozen fruit was refreshing, and the sweetness of the acai was nice, but I would've preferred more honey drizzle to bring everything together. A larger bowl would have helped with better mixing and allowed for a smoother eating experience. While the flavors were decent, the portioning and packaging need improvement, and the lack of food security during delivery was concerning. I can't comment on the ambience because we dine indoors as opposed to at the location. Customer service when we researched on the Grubhub app and we even made phone calls was adequate. My sister is vegan and she appreciates the options.

These are made with healthy plant proteins. Herbalife is the brand of the products here. It mostly makes protein shakes. These are made of the protein powder and water. It's not the only beverage here. They also have fruit teas. Among these are several colorful ones to choose from. They taste kind of sugary so maybe they aren't exactly healthy food but the tea is good though. I like the Incredible Hulk. It's about $6 for a large cup and it's very refreshing. They also have doughnuts so you can get the protein powder another way. It's about $3 for each. Prices are kind of high. The protein though is high quality so it makes it kind of okay. It seems like a good place for getting some healthier drinks. Picking up a healthier doughnut can also be done here. They also have a membership if you plan to come here often then it's a good idea to get this.

The smoothie was delicious! Upon entry we were greeted with a smile and cheerful welcome. You enter your phone number on the pad this displays your reward offers and gets you into their rewards system if you're a first timer. There was tons of hand sanitizer, drink specials on board, printed menus and menu on the wall. There's a seating area by the window with a small library and really cute decor. There's other 2 person seating tables along the wall. I had the pecan praline smoothie recommended by another patron. The smoothies are healthy but tastes like desserts. There's so many options. In addition, you can select what nutritional add-ins you'd like. If smoothies aren't your thing, you can choose from refreshing teas. I'm still unsure if they have vegan smoothie options - there were a lot of people who came in after us so I didn't get a chance to get the full details on what was in the smoothie. My partner purchased me an iced coffee drink from there another day and a coffee smoothie. Both were delish. It can be hard to miss - hence I didn't know it was there and it's in my neighborhood. There's a tree blocking the sign from the street view. There's free street parking as well. I definitely plan to become a regular. For those who want to support black businesses this is one.

For example, my original K pick representing 2018 was in Wilmington, DE. I didn't have a runner-up replacement for 2018 representing O, which was a restaurant in Lancaster, PA or V, one in Tempe, AZ. So, K is for Kung Fu Tea is the only business representing 2018 for the runner-up business. Kung Fu Tea experience: I first discovered Kung Fu, I think in the early part of 2018. From 2017 to 2020, I lived in Wheaton, so downtown Silver Spring wasn't far. I went to this location a few times in this time period. In summer 2018, I took 2 or 3 dates to this location after dinner or what have you. We drank our boba tea outside. This is a very small location with perhaps a couple of inside benches but mainly for to go. I guess if the weather was bad, you could hang in Ellsworth Place, the mall connected to the Kung Fu Tea. Boba tea is solid here, but there are some better places. In 2024, I was down here for an advanced movie screening at Regal Majestic, and I had a 20% off at Kung Fu Tea. The cashier couldn't figure out how to redeem the deal, so I walked out because the 20% off was the catalyst for going there in the first place. So, I wasn't impressed with the staff that day. I like some other locations better.
