This has been on my Madison bucket list for so long and I finally made it over. Totally see what the hype is all about and will be back! We arrived and waited 10 minutes in line. Busy! Ordering was quick and easy and my friend and I found a spot to sit inside. Sandwiches came about 10 mins later. I went with the paradigm on focaccia and WHEW it was delicious! The flavors work perfect, mozzarella was fresh, and the focaccia was the perfect soft texture and taste. My friend got the special-- chicken cutlet sandwich, and loved it as well. read more

Good sandwiches. Gets very busy. Order ahead and pick up when you walk in or go at an off hour. I got my sandwich on focaccia. It was very spongy and good, but didn't take like Italian focaccia. Still good for a sandwich. Everyone was raving about the chocolate chip sandwich, so of course I ordered it. It's fine. I've had better. But it did hit the spot. read more

Casetta is one of the best places in Madison. The ingredients are freshly prepared and of the highest quality. They have a special sandwich every day and I strongly recommend getting it before they run out. Their focaccia is to die for!! Honestly so are their chocolate chip cookies. It's a small spot and gets super busy during lunch so I would expect a long wait that is extremely worth it. All of their employees are incredibly nice and passionate about their job. We went to Casetta on a weekday afternoon, and it was super busy and packed. We ordered the Paradigm on focaccia, along with the chocolate chip cookie, which we received right after we finished ordering. I just want to say that this chocolate chip cookie is definitely in my top 10 cookies of all time. I loved that the chocolate chips were in wafer form, which allowed an even distribution of chocolate flavor throughout the cookie. The sea salt on top was a nice touch as well. It was also only $2.25! There is a bit of a wait for the sandwich and it might be hard to find seating, but the wait was bearable with the cookie. I will suggest that a numbering system might be easier, because we were a bit concerned on how they were going to find us, but it worked out in the end as they call out your name for the order. They also have a nice system of a "clean/dirty" sign on the tables, and the staff who helped us wipe the table and handed us our order was very nice about it. The paradigm sandwich was delicious, especially the roasted peppers, which added a nice flavor. I do wish the bread was toasted, however, but on its own, the bread was yummy as is. I can definitely see myself coming back to try their other sandwiches (and get the cookie again) if I am in the area. read more

Stopped by here for lunch on a weekday. I ordered the Paradigm sandwich. The flavor of the sandwich fillings were really good, especially on the marinated bell peppers inside. The sandwich had a good variety of textures throughout - my only wish was that the focaccia was also toasted. I think that would complement the sandwich textures even more. The coveted chocolate chip is *that* good. Thin, crispy edges, chewy center with flat chocolate wafer chips. The salt on top was a wonderful contrast to the sweet chocolate. You also can't beat the price of $2.25 for a good cookie. My only other complaint would be the limited seating. The workers here also try to provide table service and bring your sandwich out to you if you do dine-in. However, there isn't a system for them to find you at the table easily and they are just wandering around looking for you by name. Having a little table # placard would benefit the staff here. read more

Great first experience! As others have said, the line can be long and you might need to wait for a table if dining in, but it is worth it. We tried the Monday special meatball sandwich, the turkey, and a make your own. The focaccia was incredible. Soft, fresh, flavorful, probably the best I've had. You don't go here for the ambiance, but the service was great. They were very friendly and clearly working hard to get a lot of sandwiches out the door quickly. And the cookies are just as good as everyone says! I'm glad they still had some. read more

Casetta Kitchen and Counter is like a high-stakes secret society for downtown Madison lunch-goers: if you manage to navigate the chaos, the rewards are real. The bread is divine, and that green goddess sauce? Worth the calories. But getting to this point is a gamble--online ordering shuts down once the kitchen hits capacity, confirmations get stuck in the system for hours (being sent after the place closes), and the website times out, so you never really know if your order is actually ready. My first attempt resulted in food sitting outside on the pickup table for hours due to no confirmation, and the second attempt left my card charged multiple times as the site kept crashing after I entered my card info. For anyone on a tight schedule, it's stressful. If you can survive the timing and website roulette, the food itself is genuinely excellent. I don't often get to Madison, but a a day I was working out of our downtown Madison office, a co-worked suggested we wander over to Casetta for lunch. It was a hot, sticky summer day, so a cold sandwich sounded great. I was stunned to see they line they had in their lobby upon arrive and know instantly we'd found a local favorite. Their menu is not extensive, but everything on it is of high quality and interesting pairings. They go beyond the basic club and turkey sandwich, with options that include prosciutto and spicy peppers, various sauces and the freshest bread. I stuck with my usual turkey...but theirs had pickles and a green sauce on it that made it next level. It was a massive sandwich, on soft, flavorful focaccia bread and I'm instantly obsessed. There was a little wait, to the point they can't take same day online orders, but it was well worth it. I have been back at least once more since and tried the Fried Green Tomato special, which was also killer. Love this place and cannot wait to try more from them in the future! read more

Casetta is well worth the wait. I was so excited and intrigued by the menu I had to get 2 sandwiches. I ordered the Hoboken and the Chicken cutlet on focaccia. Both were incredible. The Hoboken had perfect ratio of meat, bread, and hot peppers. I might think of the chicken cutlet for weeks. All ingredients were noticeably fresh. The juicy fried cutlet was perfectly paired with a delicious pesto that was sandwich in their soft focaccia. Looking forward to having this again. When I say this is probably the best sandwich I've ever had...I mean it. I got the manzo- and I don't normally go for roast beef. This wasn't your average run of the mill deli meat. This was fresh, thick pieces of roast beef. The spicy pepper sauce on it was 10/10 - and the focaccia bread was the perfect choice. I had the chocolate chip cookie after and.....I'm drooling thinking about it. It almost tasted like a sugar cookie, but with chocolate chips. The sea salt flakes were the perfect touch. This place is popular for a reason! When we arrived at 11:30 am there was already a line out the door. It moved very fast and we ordered less than 10 minutes later. They have quite a few options to choose from as well as two bread choices. Ultimately I decided to go with the turkey, chips, and a Diet Coke. We were able to get a seat inside but most of the tables were filled. We received our food within 5 minutes of sitting down and the server was so nice! This sandwich was gigantic! Definitely could split or make two meals out of it!! The bread was so fresh and overall it tasted fantastic. I would love to try a few different sandwich's as the menu has quite a few great choices. I kind of had higher expectations for the sub, but I felt like it was mostly just slightly better than average. There's also a big line, and they're only open during weird hours of the week. Personally not worth a revisit, I'd just go to Alimentari. read more

Wow! I love a good sandwich and believe me when I tell you that you will find an excellent sandwich here! Service was friendly and quick, prices were fair for the quality of the ingredients, and our sandwiches were DELICIOUS. Smaller restaurant so the line and tables can get busy, but they keep things moving and very clean. We ordered the chickpea salad as a side and it was also so tasty. I have a soft spot for great sandwiches. Sorry, it cant be helped. If YOU have a soft spot for sandwiches, do yourself a solid and get here. Why? 1. Fresh bread. I don't mean "made today," I mean "it's still warm from the oven." 2. Perfect ratios of fillings:toppings:bread. 3. Crave-able. I've been wanting to come back here for ages, but I'm never really around and free during their very limited hours. I'd been here years ago and remember the sandwiches being enormous and magical. I finally made it happen and met a friend here for lunch recently. It's a cute space but very small and limited seating inside. Even at 1pm, it appeared we had clearly not beaten the crowd, but they have a bunch of larger tables just outside the store in the building's hallway. It was actually nice to have some space to spread out and it was still a really nice spot to hang out for a late lunch. Our staff member who greeted us and took our order was super nice and friendly, and since it came up in conversation, we obviously had to exchange our dog photos (nobody was behind us). Initially they'd told us they were out of the day's special (the "Sunny" -- roasted chicken thighs, cheese, sundried tomato petso, balsamic, and arugula... omg, right??), but someone then mentioned that had one left. Jackpot - I immediately ordered that and am very glad I did! My sandwich was a delight, even with getting the very last/leftover supplies to put on the sandwich. A small piece here or there of the chicken thigh was a bit dry, but it was literally just a bite and combined with the rest of the ingredients, it was a very fleeting moment. I would order the exact same sandwich with everything about it completely unchanged 100 more times. It was also a very wonderful portion size. I *could* have been perfectly satisfied and satiated after the first half of the sandwich. I looked at it as I thought these things, and then picked up the other half and ate it all with no regrets. This was actually my "breakfast," and I skipped my evening lunch as a result. I do love me a good sandwich, and any time I can find a good chicken-based sandwich I'm usually hooked... as I am now. I'm not even sure what my friend ordered but he had it consumed by the time I finished my first half, so I can only assume it was darn delicious as well. I do wish they were open more, but I'm thrilled they're still here and doing well as a local business. I'll definitely make the effort to come back here again... and again. read more

I have wanted to go to this place for a long time, but I struggle with lunch only places (especially weekday lunches); however, this was more than worth taking time out of my schedule to get. Seeing the daunting line out the door made me excited and the sandwich did not disappoint. My favorite sandwich shop in Madison, and maybe my favorite overall. If you want this specific sandwich check out the website to see when they serve the chicken cutlet as a special. I loved grabbing the sandwich to go and eating it on the lawn at the beautiful capital. Best sandwich spot off the square hands down. Although the line is always long, the wait is never too bad and it's very much worth it in my opinion. They do offer the ability to order ahead of time to avoid the line all together. The inside is a bit small with limited seating, so I prefer to get my food to go and enjoy it on the square when it's nice out. Definitely try their chocolate chips cookies when you stop by, you won't be disappointed. My one knock would be that the sandwiches do not save well in the fridge and end up getting soggy. read more

All the raving reviews of Cassetta are SO warranted. I've been wanting to go for so long but due to their hours (10:30-2:30 only on weekdays) it's slightly inconvenient to get there between my class schedule. I did finally go in at around 1:30 on a Wednesday -- next time I will definitely go in earlier as a few things were already sold out! I got a make your own turkey sandwich on foccacia and this was phenomenal. Each of the ingredients tasted fresh and contributed to the overall deliciousness of the sandwich. Despite the large portion size, I finished eating it and immediately wanted more. All the staff were so friendly as well! Missed out on trying the chocolate chip cookie and chicken cutlet but looking forward to those next time! read more

I've heard so many good things about Casetta and finally had the opportunity to go on a day off from work. I made an online order and got the paradigm with focaccia. My order was ready for pick up at the time I had requested. After picking it up, it sat for a little bit so I thought it might not be as good but I was wrong. The sandwich was delicious! Amazing bread and hefty filling that was salty, spicy, and flavorful. I could only eat half of the sandwich because of the size so a great deal as well. The only problem I noticed was that the sandwich was quite wet so I might request the sauce on the side for online orders. read more

This place rocked my world. I was in town for work and looking for something to pick up for lunch in the area. The pictures of these sandwiches on Yelp influenced me to stop by. The line was long but they have friendly and efficient service. Next time I would certainly order ahead online because they were probably dealing with 20 in store and 30 online orders at a time, cranking em out. You have to get this sandwich on their focaccia which was absolutely divine. Probably one of the best sandwiches I've ever had. read more

Finally made it to Casetta and wasn't disappointed! I ordered the Hoboken and the Paradigm and both were delicious. The stand-out piece of Casetta is their fresh focaccia bread... it's so delicious!!!! The sandwiches were fresh and their restaurant was inviting. Plenty of indoor seating with small patio seating as well. Service was fast and efficient. Serving size was good as well. Only negative I have is the hours! It took me a long time to get over here during business hours (limited to lunch on weekdays only). So glad I made it, definitely recommend! read more

Not that Casetta needs more 5 star reviews, but let's just say it is one of the best sandwiches I have ever eaten. After following on Instagram for a year, my friend and I finally decided to give it a go. He typically gets the Manzo, so I followed suit, and I was not disappointed. The shop is located in a building off of the Capitol and is just the cutest little aesthetic. There was no line when we went in (1PM on a Friday) but I am sure that varies a bunch. The hours are a bit odd, 11-2:30, but I don't think it really matters given the quality of the food. The best things come in small doses? The focaccia bread is simply amazing, and everything in between was the perfect combination of flavors. The dijon vinaigrette (I think is what it is called) was something I was skeptical about but pulled the sandwich together in the best way possible. Service was fast, staff were kind, and it was just an all around great experience. Will definitely be returning to give some of their daily specials a try or something with fresh mozzarella. Certainly a quick favorite. read more

Having read the great reviews the last few years this place was on my list to try. Covid got in the way and it only being open for lunch did not help. Finally on a glorious sunny Friday we rode our bikes into town and stopped. That great weather brought out everyone. The line was very long. I heard someone exclaim that they have never seen the line that long. I should have ordered ahead of time on-line but it was too late. Actually the line moved quickly and the order itself came out surprisingly fast. We split the Italian on focaccia and I added soppressata and garlic aioli. The bread was excellent - very fresh. The sandwich with my modifications was quite tasty. The only downside - was the sandwich really worth $15??? I have tried Casettas so no need to rush back despite it being good. read more

Although the store is small, there are usually always places to sit and the staff is very kind. Pictured was a Friday special; with chicken cutlet, arugula, ricotta, and spicy sauce.
