Originally I called a different moving company, (separate review of that awful company in a different post) and was given the contact information for Action Movers from Curtis @ All Access Storage in Nampa. Immediately when I spoke with Emma at Action Movers, I knew this was going to be a great fit for my move. And it was! Everything went according to plan. They were affordable and flexible and I appreciated that so much. I called them and was given two options of possible move dates, and one of them just happened to be on a Sunday and the date was coming up quick. Originally I was worried about having others work on a Sunday, but they were great about it and showed up on time ready to rock and roll. I thought I was going to have to do a lot of the physical lifting, but boy, was I wrong! Chris, Ethan, Nick and Julian were absolutely fantastic! They came in and it was all hands on deck! Super hard workers, organized, friendly, knew what they were doing, (cuz I was clueless as I've never moved an entire house before!) and overall so great to work with. Dare I say moving day was actually FUN for my son and I! They showed up, loaded everything into the truck, and were very respectful of my items. They brought blankets and tape to protect my furniture and corners. They even helped pack up some of my things. After traveling across town to my new home, the crew from Action Movers unloaded everything, including the big furniture, set up the beds, installed the washer and dryer, (!) and Chris was even kind enough to help me figure out how to use my sprinklers and showed me where the fuses were for utilities too. I'm telling you- these guys were top notch! My son and I were commenting how quickly everything went, and jokingly Chris said we had an eight hour fire, and he wasn't wrong! LOL All in all, the day went super smoothly and way better than I expected considering how awful the first company was that I had spoken to. I so appreciate everyone from Action Movers, and I've told everyone in my circle whether they need to move or not, that this is the company they need to go with if and when they ever do need to hire someone. Can't sing their praises enough! I'm not one for posting online very often, but when there's good work that's reliable, affordable and trustworthy, I want to give credit where credit is due and shout out what shouldn't be whispered. I hate negative reviews, but I can't give anything else outside of two stars. They took 4 hours…read morelonger to move than the company we used exactly a year ago, using the same amount of people and materials, moving the same stuff. They took several huge chunks out of the ceiling in the hallway. They made a long dent in or refrigerator, about 12-inches long. They couldn't hook up the water line to the ice maker, telling my wife that we must have had a different connection at our other house (We didnt. I hooked it up when i got home from work, no modifications). Lastly they broke our front window when they removed the front door to move items in (no big deal with the door) but leaned it against the house, where it fell and hit the window. Owner came out and told my wife that his employee recently had to change a window and it was about $100, which is what he based our moving discount on. My wife asked them to discount it $250. They gave her $200. Then they tell us that they charge a half hour for travel, which was not disclosed at the time of the appointment. My wife was disgusted with the whole ordeal and just paid it. I called several glass repair companies and received bids ranging from $342 to $390. I called and left a voice mail for the owner, who did call me back but I missed it. I returned his call, asking to discuss the bids but have not heard back. That was last week. All we want is for the window to be fixed, minus the $200 "discount". In the end, were going to end up paying close to $1,000 for this move, including repairs to our house. I avoided writing this because I think every small business deserves a fair shot to right wrongs. Sadly, I think my wife was taken advantage of because I wasn't home. I would not recommend Gem State Moving.

I was moving out of a basement apartment and into a house across town, with a stop at my storage unit along the way. I wish I remembered the names of the two gentlemen that moved me, because they were awesome. I ended up booking Gem State because they quoted me the lowest rate (by far). Being paid hourly, I was a little nervous on how long they would take, assuming they would stretch out the move to make more money. But nope! They were so quick! I think from start to finish was under 3 hours! They were both pumped about getting it done quick. My apartment had terrible (downtown) parking, but they managed to get the truck into the tight alley. My front steps were impossible to move anything out of, and I was nervous because the back steps were a STEEP floor to climb. But they moved my queen sized bed, couch, dining table, large dresser, etc. out with no problem. We met them at the storage unit where they unloaded most of the stuff and stored it neatly for me, making access to it simple and future moving a breeze. We then met them at the house where they unloaded the rest of my things and even set up the bed for us. Score! My only regret was forgetting to grab cash to tip them! Hands down, I will be calling Gem State for all my future moves.

What a top notch experience we had when our interior designer had a team from Merchants come to our…read morehome to reposition a heavy area rug and move around furniture too heavy for my husband to do on his own and with me as worthless in that work given I have multiple sclerosis and the ship has sailed for me being able to lift and carry furniture. The two Merchants employees, Dan and Christian, were on time, early even, for the appointment, friendly and professional and clearly "spoke designer" for how they moved things about with her recommendations and directions. They accomplished in roughly 90 minutes what would have been impossible for us in any time frame. They worked efficiently and carefully and that they were such nice men was a bonus too. We've moved 14 times in 42 years so the odds are good that we'll move again. In all those moves the only bad experience we had was with the moving company in Boise, a national brand competitor of Merchants (which is affiliated with national brand Atlas), that did a woeful and careless job and damaged furniture to the tune over a thousand dollars in repairs moving us into a rental and then a year later out of the rental into our new home just five miles away. Based on our experience with Christian and Dan for the work they did for us and our designer last week, when our next move comes up we will use Merchants.

I would not recommend this company at all. The movers showed up on time and seemed friendly…read moreenough, but that is about the only good thing I have to say. They seemed inexperienced and there were many problems: 1) I asked for 4 movers and 2 trucks for the whole day. After 3 hours, the two most energetic and careful guys left on another job! They came back 3 hours later and helped the other two guys finish. If I would have had all 4 movers the whole day, I think the performance would have been better. The two movers who were here all day NEVER took a break or ate lunch! It's no wonder they got sloppy, especially towards the end as they were trying to finish and go home. 2) The movers unloaded the truck full of boxes BEFORE they unloaded the furniture. Who does that? Since there were boxes in the way, some of the furniture didn't get placed where it should have been. And they didn't keep all the pieces of the bed together, so we couldn't put our bed together for a week afterwards until we found the missing piece in the garage. 3) They stacked big boxes on top of little ones. 4) They had to open the door of the refrigerator to get it through the narrow doorway, and they broke off the lower rack on the door. We've never found it so I suspect they threw it away. They also broke my bird bath. It was intact and fine in the storage unit but when we checked in on the patio (to add water), the top was on the ground and the base was beside it. The concrete was broken and unable to be fixed. 5) There are multiple dings, scratches, and dents on our walls. They were not careful with furniture, seeming more concerned with speed than being careful. 6) Even though boxes were labeled, we found boxes misplaced throughout the house. Boxes that should have been in the basement were placed in the garage and vice versa. Many boxes were placed with the labels facing the walls, so we had to move stacks of boxes to even see what the box contained and to figure out which room the box was supposed to have been placed in. 7) They obviously got in a hurry at the end and haphazardly threw the remaining items in the garage. There was no rhyme or reason to the placement of items; it was clear they simply dropped items wherever there was space available and without regard as to which room the item was supposed to be in. I left a message requesting that the owner Dan call back to discuss the poor performance and broken refrigerator door. He never did. Although this company had a lower hourly rate than some of the other moving companies I called, I would rather have paid $10 more per hour for better quality service. You really do get what you pay for. You'd be better off paying minimum wage to a couple of high school students and treating them to a pizza than hiring this company.
