So I searched zipper repair near me and this location popped up. I wasn't sure a shoe repair shop could handle my crisis. But I stopped in, and 10 minutes later I had a new zipper. I have used various services of Cascade Shoe Repair for about 10 years for replacement of heels, gluing when a sole starts to give at the toe, general polishing, good shoe polish, and sturdy shoehorns. They give a quote, and the shoes are ready the next day. Sometimes I bring in shoes which can't be repaired. Their quotes are accurate. They have the equipment to make a pair of shoes from scratch. I don't think of them as friendly, but I chat with the older gentleman and learn his history of Russian descent. The younger man is generally in the midst of a repair. I needed a repair on an elastic lace eyelet on my child's sneakers. They turned it around in a day, and it was very reasonably priced. I did hear them giving a quote to resole work boots for someone else, and even though that customer seemed unsure of the cost, based on the boots my husband wears for work, I know that they are offering a reasonable price for that service, also, compared to what it would cost going through the manufacturer for the exact same service. *They are cash only, just a heads up. read more

Brought in my favorite Birkenstocks that the heels had worn all the way through the cork. $85+tax and exactly 24 hours later and they're good as new (better than new because I don't have to break them in again). They built back up the cork bed and completely replaced the sole. They also gave the leather a little brush up and helped with some of the stains. Cannot recommend them more. The speed and quality of the work is excellent and I'll recommend to anyone. read more

This time I put a sticky visitor's yeah on the leather jacket at the ER - not a good idea. It peeled the color and finish off. I am looking for a cobbler who knows his stuff. When I asked him about what type of leather he uses for his belts, his reply was "cow". Well-- I figured that, but when I elaborated to ask if he used top-grain leather, he didn't know how to answer. I spend really good money on my boots and I would want good quality products on / in my shoes. I wouldn't want bonded leather, but rather a high quality leather... ideally top grain, depending on if it's a visual / functional part of the boot. A good cobbler should know his leather types... and no... "cow" isn't a good answer. One other quick note -- Don't expect a friendly personality -- However, I could get past that if I could trust him. I will trust my shoes/boots elsewhere. read more

Quality service done fast. Super tiny parking lot but if you go there after 4:30 or so, it's fine. It's next to a car mechanic which is usually closed by then so they have extra spots in between. On Thursday I took a pair of Birkenstocks in for some light reconditioning, as well as a pair of Corral cowboy boots to stretch the shaft that was too tight. Don't be fooled by Aleksandr's heavy eastern European accent or the drone of Russian TV in the background, he knows exactly what you're saying, especially if you're talking about shoe repair. With the kind of enthusiasm he approaches his work, it's hard not to get a little excited about your own shoe repair. From his small storefront sitting on Mill Plain Boulevard, Aleksandr takes all comers. Inside the neatly cluttered space rests some old school machinery, from the early last century by the look of it, jars of polish, and stacks of rubber soles just waiting for your shoes. Any shoes or boots. Shoe repair may not be high on your to-do list, but finding a good shoe repair person is similar to finding a good car mechanic. There's also something about visiting someone who loves their work as much as this guy appears to that just makes your day a little better. And it's not just him, it's most of his brothers and his dad as well. Yep, he's from a family of shoe guys, all apparently very good at what they do (altho this review is only about Aleksandr's shop, he sets a high bar for the rest of his family's shops). My most recent visit was for some old boots that I just didn't want to give up on yet. Aleksandr showed me some sole options and then told me to come back in two days. Two days and $75 later, he did a beautiful job (see pics) on the soles and gave my boots a shine they haven't seen in a long time. Although his work is very good, I feel I was treated poorly after years of loyal patronage. I had been taking my horse blankets to him for repairs for years. I also took shoes in from time to time. In the spring, when I usually took in the horse blankets, he told me he didn't have time for them anymore. I know this is his personal business and can do whatever he wants, but I had been going to him for probably 15 years and recommended him to many people. He gave me no idea/warning that he didn't want that sort of business. Not going to take my shoes back to him anymore. read more

Unfortunately my last visit wasn't as great as my others. The work I needed was well done but I was told that it would be $28 cash or check. (I don't own a check book and I have to go to the bank to get cash because I just don't carry cash not a overly big deal normally) But when I went to get my shoes back they all of a sudden wanted $32.50 because they didn't tell me it was $28 plus tax when I dropped them off and my little tag said $28. I would have been fine with $32.50 but you need to tell me that up front when you are running a cash only shop. I got my shoes back and paid the $28 like they said yesterday, but just a frustrating way to deal with the whole business. read more
