I have friends in Nola that have been telling me about this place for awhile so I was so excited to finally try it while visiting! The batter they use is gluten free so I was able to have gluten free fried fish for the first time in forever in the states. It also came with fries and was so delicious. This is a family owned business with lots of seating inside. It can get busy so plan for a wait in line. Highly recommend.

Made a last minute decision to eat lunch here, and we didn't make any reservations. Thankfully, there were tables available, and we were seated immediately (they do ask that your complete party be present before being seated). This is definitely a "no-frills" place, and I love the history behind it and that it is family-owned. I had the raw oysters, the fried shrimp loaf sandwich (all-dressed), and the seafood gumbo (which came with packaged crackers). The oysters were not for me -- they were big but not cleaned well. I really loved the seafood gumbo though -- it was one of my favorites throughout my time in NOLA (I had six different gumbos from different places and this was tied for first). The shrimp loaf was good as well (the shrimp was fried perfectly), but the bread was very flimsy and things kept falling out.

Definitely a popular restaurant. When we arrived on a Friday evening around 6 pm we were met with a small line of folks ahead of us. The speed of the line went fairly slower than expected. The small, old fashioned and almost antique feeling cafeteria-like restaurant had each table filled. It's a small, divey joint that transports you back to the early days. Subway tiles cover the walls in a classic style and are rumored to be imported from Italy. I love dive bars and divey restaurants. This place had just a touch too much of that for my taste. The restaurant was moving from divey, to dirty, and almost, unkept. I am a huge fan charbroiled oysters and had to try Casamento's restaurant as one of the more popular and famous places for oysters in NOLA. We ordered two dozen charbroiled ($24.75 ea) (one for each of us), two beers and a side of coleslaw ($2 for a 2 oz serving). Our server was friendly and our order came out promptly. These oysters didn't have any charbroiled taste. They lacked greatly in flavor. The cheese wasn't melted, the oysters were warm, not hot. Overall, they were quite disappointing from a place that are "known" for their oysters. These oysters were more like baked oysters that came from an under-heated oven rather than charbroiled over flames. The coleslaw was simple and tasted as expected but in a smaller than expected portion for the price. Overall, Casamento's may have a place in the history books of serving oysters in NOLA and maybe they serve up a decent order of raw oysters on the half shell. However, as far as charbroiled oysters, there are many other establishments in the local area that serve up a much tastier plate.

Wow. This is the place of my dreams. Super fresh and large oysters, lovely service, and such a fun casual spot that is family-owned. If I'm ever back in New Orleans, I'll be here. Loved the oysters on half shell and the char grilled oysters, which are a bit pricier. The char grilled fries are also good. It is cash only! Come early as it gets busy.

Alrighty- I think I had really bad luck because I am 100% sure the soft shell crab dinner gave me really bad food poisoning which started the next morning- classic case of shellfish bacteria. (You kinda know right) I get it, mistakes can happen so I do hope they read this and clean up whatever is going on- l it ruined my first full day in New Orleans. The place itself is darling and I'd love to see it around a lot longer but I don't think I'll be going there again- especially not for the soft shell crab sadly. Sorry peeps please clean up the act so others won't suffer

We went around noon on Good Friday expecting a long wait but were seated about 10 minutes after walking in. We quickly ordered a half dozen raw oysters, half dozen chargrilled oysters, and a soft shell crab half loaf. The oysters were amazing and fresh and the soft shell crab loaf was delicious. Our dishes were cleared and we asked for our bill and our waitress passed back and forth by us for about 15 minutes before bringing us our bill. There was a long line of people waiting by that point and we could have been out the door much sooner.

DUDE! Heard about this legendary century old landmark eatery in NOLA and it was like stepping back in time and the ambiance was on point! I finally made it down and boy am I glad I did. The charm of this old school family restaurant is awesome with a 100 year old ambiance to cap it all off. They serve a uniquely delicious shrimp loaf (NOT TO BE MISTAKEN FOR A PO-BOY) which I ordered along with the chargrilled oysters which were fresh and delicious. But back to the shrimp loaf, which was SPECTACULAR! The fresh made soft bread, buttered & toasted, piled high with shrimp, dressed with mayo, lettuce, tomato, shrimp, did I mention shrimp falling off the loaf. OH MY GOSH! And I recommend soppin' (a great southern word that needs no definition) up the garlic & butter off the chargrilled oyster plate just finished to off!

The wait is sometimes long but it's always worth it. This New Orleans staple has been around for a very long time. And with good reason. Food here is always really really good. Today I had a half oyster loaf. We started with a half dozen chargrilled oysters which were also excellent. If you ever want to try a slant on an oyster po'boy, try the oyster loaf and I think you'll like it.

Kicking 2025 off with a New Orleans Institution! Casamento's is the best oyster house in the city hands down! Every inch of this place, from the tile walls to the guys shucking behind the bar scream NEW ORLEANS. Everything is still hand made, yes each individual oyster is breaded by hand before being friend and placed on the most heavenly bread you will ever have. The oyster loaf and the soft shell crab are a must! If you are visiting New Orleans during oyster season come here don't spend your time or money elsewhere.

Casamento's is a family owned NOLA institution that specializes in Gulf seafood. It's a quirky place where you get the impression that they don't need to accommodate you because they have plenty of customers. This is not to say the food and service aren't great...they are! But there's no making reservations, cash only, only open Thursday-Sunday, (and to be safe, call to check. Especially in summer.) Be prepared to stand in line a while. It is definitely not hip and not touristy. It's small and casual. The floors and walls are all tile which is pretty but makes it loud. They have several beers (not on tap tho) and cheap wine. Decor is amusing. You can buy oyster crafts if that's your thing! Two guys are shucking fresh oysters for half shell. Yum. I got the seafood gumbo which was excellent and husband got the oyster "stew" which wasn't like New England thick oyster stew but a buttery thin broth. Delicious. Fried oyster sandwich is served on "pan bread" which reminds me of Texas toast. I'd prefer a French load but this was pretty good bread. Oysters perfectly fried. Husband got platter with half trout and half oysters. Sides of fries and cole slaw. Reasonably priced.

Arrived a few minutes to 5:30 which is when they advertise they open. A few minutes after we made the mistake of knocking on the door. A woman came up and sad"we are not ready. When they came back (2 minutes later) they rudely said, "we don't open till the owner says so". Rude!!!

The second you walk into this restaurant, you can feel the history in this restaurant. From the use of an old cashier register to pictures showing the restaurant back in 1919. You can feel that this is a well loved local restaurant. What caught our eye with this restaurant was their Chargrilled Oysters. I've never had oysters this was so I had to try them! One of my friends never had oysters and she really liked them. I told her this is probably a good starter oyster for those who don't eat seafood too often. The oysters were filled with garlic and butter, can't go wrong with this combo. To get the most of all the seafood, we ordered the seafood platter which comes with fried oysters, shrimp, crab claws, and a choice of the trout or catfish. We chose the trout and had an order of the catfish as well. This was a ton of food for three people and I feel as though it is a shame to waste seafood. Our favorites were the shrimp and catfish out of the seafood. The fried seafood wasn't too salty which helped as we were eating a bunch of fried food. We didn't like the crab claws as much and could skip that next time. We really enjoyed Casamento's as it's a cute little casual restaurant and reasonably priced! It's cute how there's someone shucking oysters at the front while you wait. If you want some seafood, this is a place you gotta try!

We came for their happy hour and sat outside on their patio. Despite it being November, it was considered their Summer Happy Hour which is available daily from 4 pm to 6 pm. This is what our party of four ordered - oysters and all the house snacks: * Whipped Feta HH $10 - Toasted sourdough was quite enjoyable with the hot honey topped whipped feta. I may need to get more whipped feta in my life. * Marinated Olives HH $5 - Yummy collection of olives. * G & T Mussels $10 - Mussels were nicely cooked and the fried saltines a nice touch! Yum! * Ishmael Fries HH $5 - Crispy and light with an enjoyable aioli. * Shucker's Dozen Oysters HH $24 - We got two dozen of these. They came with mignonette, cocktail sauce, horseradish, and something else. So fresh! Not only was the food great, but the service was wonderful as well. Despite being outside, we never felt neglected and our server along with the rest of the staff were on it. At one point, our waiter had to go to the back to help shuck oysters to help with the demand. There was no lapse of service as the staff stepped up to support his absence. It was super close to where we were staying, and since I didn't catch a seafood boil in the Quarter or anywhere else in town, I had to try this spot. I even met a lady who drives 45 minutes just to get here, so if she makes that trek, you know this is the spot. I will be dreaming of this place! Being takeout-only gave it that authentic, local vibe, and I loved every bite. Unlike the typical mixed seafood boils, they bag everything separately, and I mixed it all together once I got back to my place. They have some garlic butter you can add, and I got it spicy! It definitely had a kick, and I loved it. I had a pound of shrimp, added sausage, two boiled eggs, the BOMBEST potatoes and corn, all tossed with the spicy garlic butter and I devoured it. Let me just brag on that shrimp and those potatoes for a second: both were amazing. The potatoes were cooked to perfection! Soft, not mushy, and seasoned just right. And the shrimp? Wow. I can still taste it. If you're in NOLA, you have to check this spot out! I will say one more thing though I wish I had room to try the gumbo! I would have loved to taste it here. Lastly, I didn't get to grab a po' boy in town, so we came back the next morning to try one. Sadly, the seafood section wasn't ready yet (we went around 10:30am), but the roast beef po' boy with gravy, lettuce, tomato, mayo, and maybe few other ingredients in it was incredible. I loved it!
