Fruit cheesecake
Shannon T.

Went to Casa Sofia specifically looking for soft food because I had two teeth pulled. I loved the cream of mushroom soup, mash potatoes, and Fruit cheesecake! It was the first complete meal I ate and it tasted delicious. If you happen to be in Playa Del Carmen for vacation dentistry put this in your restaurant list!

The service is actually pretty nice here. The food is so so. We started off with the tuna carpaccio and it still had a bit of the fishy stink so we asked for lime to try and rid of the fishiness. We did enjoy the fact that it came with a piece pineapple so it can also help mask the fish taste. Can't forget the bread they give you at the beginning not toasted lol but still happy to have bread at an Italian place :). The way the pasta works here is you order your pasta for that price and then you order the sauce for another price. In essence one pasta dish would be about 200 pesos total. Same goes for the Clamato . You pay for the beer and the Clamato separately. Overall this is a nice place between the other restaurants.

Burrata prosciutto

Pizza was overly wet and the prosciutto was not evenly cut on the pizza which made it impossible to eat. The cook was overly rude about it and basically just told us off. Avoid this place if you can

Apps were good. They forgot my lasagna and served everyone else in my table. They argued with us asking if someone else took my order but I ordered a lasagna. I finally reordered and took three bites -- it was dead cold in the middle. I sent it back. They charged us and the chef came out with a serious attitude. They gave us a free dessert which was a flourless chocolate cake but it was tasteless.

It was my first time at Casa Sofia and I'd say it was a great experience. It was a beautiful night for a date night, it was breezy outside where we were sitting but perfect. The service was very quick and we were helped by multiple people. The food didn't take long to come out either. There was complimentary bread with oils at the table. I got the Mediterranean salmon, could have been cooked a little longer but still delicious. I got the sauce on the side because I don't like black olives. They were smaller portions, but the perfect size for me.The rose wine was good, a little more dryer than i would have liked. Over a great experience, but next time I would have tried a pasta dish.

Meat lasagna

Hands down the best Italian food you'll have in Playa! We are in a happy food coma after experiencing their lasagna, the tastiest shrimp w a sauce that's to die for and yummy bruschetta. We also had pizza but the teenager gobbled it up before I could take a photo! Lol

This restaurant seems like a local Favorite. How did we find it? We asked our concierge where he would go for a romantic dinner (not touristy) if he could pick anywhere. He said Casa Sofia so off we went and we loved it! We will go back. We started with an Antipasto plate which was perfection! The Mahi Mahi was authentic and delicious. I had lobster stuffed ravioli and every bite was amazing! Don't miss this place it's delicious, relaxing and lovely with great service. Great for families because they have the cutest 'kids club' where children can play and make adorable crafts while parents can see them easily and in full view in a small side area. The kids were having so much fun. Don't miss the antipasto- the selection was perfect and high quality. We will be back!

Our second time at Casa Sofia Playa del Carmen 5a Avenida and the food is incredibly good. We tried the Risotto Porcini and the Pizza Margherita with fresh basil, prosciutto and fresh sliced Parmesan cheese, both plates were amazing. Highly recommend!!!

It's easy to enjoy a restaurant meal. But to receive amazing, and consistent food, that is priced well is another story. I return to Casa Sophia on a regular basis , whether in-person or by delivery and they never disappoint. In person their COVID protocol is diligent and their delivery is always beautifully wrapped and delivered piping hot. So many choices: soups, appetizers, pastas, pizza , enters and deserts. Tonight's delivery was flawless- minestrone soup, penne with fresh tomato and basil with shrimp, spaghetti carbonara, chocolate volcano and apple tart. Yes 1/2 is still in the fridge because the portions are so hearty. Big thanks to Sophia and Sarah

January 13/2025: Dinner with Al/Clem/Red…read more This was an alright dinner with a goodish ambiance. The server "Moses" was a very nice, polite & patient fellow. He delivered solid service, 5-Star. It rained during our meal so that did have an impact. As for the meal...it was a 3-Star at best. My appie was Bruschetta Pastorall ($147P). It was hot in flavour & decent tasting as well. My main was Chicken Parmesan with a creamy spaghetti ($379p + $75p for the spaghetti). They were good but not great. They SHOULD have been great for a $31.50 Cdn entree. And even though I asked in writing to have the meal extra hot...it was barely warm enough to NOT send back to the kitchen. This seems to be where most restaurants in the area drop the ball...taste & food temperature. Even though I ranked this a 4-star it's not really one...it's more like a 3.5. I doubt I'd come back here.

You feel like you are eating in a jungle. Most of the seating is outdoors but the jungle blocks views to and from the street. We went for thin crust pizza. The crust in fact very thin. I think my Mailina could have been in the oven a bit longer to brown more. I did not detect any sausage although the description said there should be. The wife got the Napoli and liked it. We started with Caprese salad. It was excellent. Best (most fresh tasting) I ever had. Service was inattentive. There was one guy who was waiter and street recruiter. It was too much for one person.

There is a hyped up "pitch man" standing outside encouraging people off the street to come in. He told me he could make a special that included a drink of "whatever I wanted" well since I was thinking of pizza anyway I decided to give it a try. I decided on a glass of Cabernet and even though it wasn't on the menu, a mixed salad. The waiter couldn't have been sweeter, he was very accommodating. I also asked for water and I noticed the waiter poured the water from a bottled water. I didn't question and assumed (u know the saying about a-ss-uming) that they just used bottled water since he didn't say anything. The mixed salad was simple but a nice size. I also ordered a margarita pizza. Well the pizza was just a cheese pizza with three pieces of basil. I asked for more basil and the waiter did bring a side of basil for me. This was really bad bland pizza! It reminded me of a frozen Digiorno and that was even being generous! When I received my bill...surprise! No special, it was only if you ordered 2 pizzas. Oh and also a tip was added on. I didn't mind the tip because honestly the waiter had nothing to do with the crappy food. I had heard that there was great pizza in Playa but this was NOT it! Not only was it my crappiest meal in Playa it was my most expensive!! Almost 30.00! And yep a-ss-uming, I was charged for the water. On my next visit to Playa, I will definitely avoid this place.

Chas found this spot while vacationing here and loved the area so much that he rented an apartment nearby and flys down often from New Orleans to stay there. We started with some Mezcalina's and fresh house fried tortillas with salsa's. The chipotle salsa and the avocado with cilantro were a nice change of pace from your normal salsa verde y rojo. The chips were clearly freshly fried and tasted great even without the salsa's. Our appetizers were a baked Camembert with fruit and tortillas, a sopa azteca, and fresh tuna tostadas. The Camembert was quite good as was the soup, but these tuna tostadas were one of the best appetizers I've ever eaten. Everything on them worked so well together and you could add a splash of soy sauce and it was even better! I'd order these as my meal at 90% of the spots in the world and leave happy! Our entrees were a grilled pichana as well as a lobster pizza from the wood fired oven. I love cooking pichana and don't see it often on menus when I go out so that was a nice treat. The temp was perfect for what we asked for and it was seasoned well. The potatoes that came with it had excellent flavor as well. I could take or leave the corn haha When Chas told me he was eating pizza in Mexico with lobster on it I said "dude, what are you doing with your life?" He said just wait til you try it. He ... was right. The lobster was delicious and buttery, the sauce had great flavor, and the cheese (which was not mozzarella) worked surprisingly well. I will say that I normally like my pizza crispy and this was missing that element...but the flavor more than made up for it. Add on to all of this the fact that you're surrounded by a beautiful pool, swings over the sand, a nice bar, and the owners dog is always nearby to say hi to haha. One of the easiest ones yet. Coco's Cabanas in Playa Del Carmen - Didn't Suck!
