BEWARE, I recently dined at Casa Mexicana located at 555 Perkins Rd. ext. This was my second visit with two different experiences. A friend & I dine there last week. My first visit the food & service were superb. We had 2 Top Shelf Margaritas and 2 quesadillas. Our check with tip was $70. Today, we had the same two margaritas at the same time of day & week with the difference of Fajita Nachos (much cheaper entree ). We got the check, and it was $90. Without tip!!!! When I questioned the check, "I was the told the same Margarita were 30 dollars each. Who would pay $30 for a margarita unless the restaurant was at a resort? Regardless, I asked to speak to the manage who is also an owner. He told me," The margaritas are as priced. There is no price on the menu. I told him, "I am accustomed to "market pricing" on beef and/or seafood, but I have never heard of this type of pricing on margaritas. Regardless, we ended up paying the JACKED-UP tab. Do what you want with this review, i would say "STAY AWAY FROM CASA MEXICANA located at 555 Perkins Ext Road Memphis, TN 38117. Dine at your own risk. I will NEVER go there again. We stopped in for a quick Togo order. The food came quickly but the process was a little confusing . We came in through the Perkins entrance and parked next to the carry out / curbside spot. But you have to walk through the restaurant to the other end to place Togo orders . The person who helped us was super friendly. Of course we struggled through the enchilada pronunciations. Came for lunch for the first time and it was a good visit. I like that there was a variety of foods on the menu and out of the ordinary from other Mexican restaurants. I got the Molcajete. It reminds me of fajitas, but stepped up a notch. Chicken, shrimp, and steak came out sizzling served with beans, rice and guacamole salad. It was just as good as good as a left over later reheated on top of tortilla chips and cheese as a nacho. So good! I'm a fan of their chips, btw. Light and crunchy. I have passed this restaurant often, but I've never stopped in. We chose this location as it was in close proximity to where our end of day meeting would be held. We arrived shortly after 5 pm, and parking was scarce. Luckily, the three of us were able to secure a parking spot. We were seated immediately and ordered a large peach mango margarita pitcher. Shortly after, the crowd began to roll in. Seems they are busier after 530p. This didn't impact service that day. We received chips and salsa while we waited for our food order to arrive. My steak, spinach, and mushroom quesidilla were freshly prepared. We really enjoyed having time to sit, eat, and laugh for the evening. Very reasonably priced food and drink menu. I had the super burrito with marinated pork. Quite possibly the worst Mexican meal I've ever had. The pork was bone dry and tasted like it was marinated in horse piss. It was served with lettuce, sour cream, just a little bit of white cheddar cheese and an un-ripe slice of tomato. The ONLY reason I gave it two stars was because my order came out in record time. Maybe because the burrito was left over from lunch! I only ate less than half of it and filled up on the salsa and chips. read more

Our waitress was kind when she was around but she really wasn't around too much, either. We had cheese dip, salsa + chips, split a pitcher of margaritas, and I ordered the mini flautas. None of it was very authentic - the margaritas just tasted Pre-mixed and the flautas seemed like something I could find in a grocery store freezer aisle. BUT. Was it worth what we paid for it? Had dinner last night here. Absolutely awful experience. We were greeted and seated very quickly, but that was the end of good service. Ordered just water to drink and it was tap water straight from the sink. Never got refills. We even set our cups at the end of table. The chips were good but the salsa was bland. Salsa had massive chunks of tomato. Got a small cheese dip that was already congealed on top and you could taste the added water. As part of my meal, I ordered a chicken quesadilla, it contained about 3 small shreds of chicken. All I could see was onion and tomato on it. The waiter seemed surprised I complained about the lack of chicken. It was the smallest quesadilla I've ever seen. It was made with a small soft taco shell, and i think they only drizzled a small amount of cheese sauce and not any actual cheese on it. The waiter didn't speak much English, so he mostly stood at the end of table just staring at us. It was a tad weird. He never introduced himself or even told us his name. Drinks came out immediately once we finally had a waiter but then we waited a while longer to have our food order taken. Once ordered, everything picked up and food came out pretty quickly. This was my first time here. And I have to say, I didn't like this place. We opted to sit at the bar, because having drinks was the primary catalyst for going in. I ordered a mojito, and that was a mistake! The mixed cocktail tasted horrible. The bartender tried to substitute mint for some blue liquid peppermint flavored syrup and it was gross. One taste and I knew I couldn't have any more. I expressed my disdain for the product. But the bartender insisted it was a "mojito" still. Rather than argue with him, I decided to have a bottled beer instead. You can't muck that up. My husband had a strawberry margarita, which turned out to be a frozen mix from a machine with thick strawberry flavored syrup squeezed on top. It spilled over the side of the glass but the bartender didn't bother to clean it off prior to handing the glass over. There are many quality Mexican restaurants in East Mphs and I frequent a few. Casa Mexicana has my favorite molcajete in all of Memphis. Servers are polite and attentive. Good tequilas on hand. Let me start off by saying this is my first time and last time here.. my service was horrible (so slow), we got our appetizer with our meal and our margaritas were just too fruity (I ordered mango my friend ordered a peach one ) it just tasted like fruit. I hot food poisoning off their molcajete ... so I'm currently on and off having to go to the bathroom and made me miss work... I asked for a drink menu and never received one so I feel like the 14$ medium margarita was a little high priced .
