Sin embargo, tras haber coordinado mi tiempo y mi cena basándome en su confirmación, me enviaron un mensaje vacío: "sorry ya estamos cerrados". Lo más injusto y vergonzoso de esta experiencia fue el trato hacia el repartidor. Es indignante que una persona que está trabajando y cumpliendo con su labor llegue al local y el personal se niegue a abrirle la puerta o a darle una explicación mínima. Casa Marin has been an establishment of many years from hardworking Cuban immigrants. It has always been a staple in my hometown of traditional Cuban food. I have been here a few times for lunch or dinner and it was ok. During my recent visit, I was looking forward to a nice tostada and breakfast. Ordered scrambled eggs with ham , cheese and potatoes. When ordering, I asked the waitress what were the options on the cheese and she said they only had offer Swiss cheese which is my least favorite choice. So it was like take it or leave it. Didn't give any options on the potatoes either . My potatoes seemed as they were fished out from the carne con papa special of the day. The eggs were overcooked. Waitress never asked how we prefer the eggs when taking the order. While I waited, I observed the staff and the traffic in and out of the kitchen. This just made me loose my appetite completely when the food came . I observed someone coming in from the street that doesn't seem like an employee walking in straight to the kitchen and coming out eating French fries. Also noticed waitresses coming in for their shift , checking in and not washing their hands before handling food. When we closed our tab, she put it in the table and never asked how was our experience. She was more focused on having loud conversations with the other employees about random things not having to do with the job . Owner was sitting in the corner on the other side of the counter counting money and did not put attention to anything that was going on or just doesn't care. I read in other reviews that the chairs are hard, lol! I must agree. But for those that don't know, they are the typical Cuban chairs called "Taurete" . They do try keeping it very Cuban but they need to step it up on the service and better food options. Overall, this place is definitely one I will not be returning to. My parents ordered me food to go and once they brought me the food home to eat that I took only ONE BITE I look at the food and there was a damn dead BUG in my food!! BEYOND disgusted. Had lunch couple days ago and it was good as always mother had a tamal en cazuela and chicken soup, portions are big. I had a fufu with fish and shrimp, it was a good portion as well and all tasted very good. The only issue I had is the we order the soup and tamal on the medium size as menu said medium and large, but when the bill came it said large so I ask the lady and she told me you order medium whis is the largest on the menue, she did not explain right and I did not wanted to fight as price still very decent, but they should change bill description or menu. Sorry, no pics, I was very hungry. Place in general is not that clean and service falls in ok to good. Picture your typical Cuban relative's dining room in East Hialeah. You have the popcorn ceiling with a chandelier. You have a TV showing either a novela or a spanish court show (that makes Judge Judy sound like a Supreme Court Justice) and highbacked wood chairs. The dishes are Cuban comfort food, and the portions are decent. However, sometimes Abuela doesn't customize dishes and you have to pile on the spices yourself. That's what Casa Marin is like. I stopped by for dinner Wednesday while running errands in the area, and went for my usual (chicken milanesa aka Cuban chicken parm). The moros, while tasty, was definitely a smaller portion than I'm used to from various Cuban places. It left a lot of clear plate real estate between it and the sweet plantains. Those tasted OK as well. As far as my main, as y'all know, I like to customize. I asked for light cheese and heavy sauce. The swiss cheese and serrano ham slice were OK, however the chicken I got was plain pollo empanizado (breaded chicken). It seems like they went LIGHT on the sauce. To their credit, my waitress did bring the sauce jar which I liberally sprinkled on the chicken. My cuban bread with herbed butter was pretty good. Would I make an extra, out of my way trip? Not sure, but it is a good option when in this part of Hialeah. read more

This place is legit. I'm a bit of a Cuban food snob since I grew up going to the original Molinas. We also would go to a little lunch spot in the factories that either doesn't have a name or it just might be a dream. Casa Marin gave me good vibes from the minute I walked up. Full of old people that you could tell are regulars. Lots of movement in the kitchen as they also do cantinas. The prices are fair and shockingly, the service was really good. Got a pan con bistec and it was about $7 and it came with a side of fries. The steak was a bit thicker than normal but was tender and juicy. So my dad was driving me crazy about this place that he has heard it a bunch of time in the radio and that they had alot of specials and that he wanted to tried chivo robado . So Saturday i called and i ordered chivo robado since that is their special and also i ordered oxtail. Oxtail was a just like a chunk of an oxtail and good luck getting your meat also the chivo robao had an after taste which was not at his best well i did not like it but it did not have alot of meat either, the platanitos maduros were ok I believe the best thing i tasted was el arroz congris and their yuca. I see the previous reviews for this restaurant are pretty up and down. I can speak only for my limited experience, as I went for lunch and ordered only a Cuban sandwich, black bean soup and rice. The food was very good. The service was spot on. They had an electronic organ/keyboard thing they had set up to play some kind of pre-programmed cascade of terrible songs. It got annoying after a while, and eventually it stopped. My server didn't speak a word of English. I speak passable Spanish, so it was no big deal. It made the experience feel more authentic for me. The restaurant is no-frills. It's basically a diner. The menu is not extremely deep but what I had and what I saw on the tables around me looked good. The prices are very reasonable. I had pretty much everything I wanted for around $12. I liked this place. But Hialeah is a pain to get to and is probably best avoided anyway. If you're in the area anyway, this is a good choice to start with for Cuban food. But I wouldn't necessarily go out of my way to get here. read more

The food is served cold, plain, and missing the most important part Flavor! No salt, no pepper.... nothing! We ordered scrambled eggs, ham, and house potatoes. Serving portion is a child's sized meal. The servers are nice but the food is terrible, possibly the worst meal I've had. This isn't only my opinion but the group I came to eat with. If you're are the point of starvation then this place will feed you for really , really cheap. Even the croquettes I ordered out of their own "heated case" came out cold .. idk how you do that when they are directly under a "heat lamp"? The best frita I've ever had. Their food is good but I don't like that they don't do substitutions. Also, it smelled a little like piss in there, prob from all the old people in there :/ los pobres. But if old neighborhood ppl eat here, you know it's good!! I liked the croquetas, my mamey Shake was bomb. Their fufu is more like mofongo though. Pollo a la plancha was good too. Went here for lunch with my coworkers for the first time. One of my coworkers had a craving for "arroz con huevo" (White Rice with Eggs) and thought this would be the best place to go. When we arrived the the restaurant itself was pretty filled with a great deal of traffic coming in and out. I ordered some "Carne con Papa" con arroz y papitas on the side. I was very surprised to see that the food was rather good, I got all that food for about $6. I had a very filling lunch for only $6.00 ...that's pretty good. Well a Cuban girl finds the closest cafeteria and orders herself some hot and fresh croquettas accompanied by thin and delicious house made crackers and a cortadito for a much needed caffeine boost. Walking up the smell of delicious Cuban dinners being prepped for cantina hit you hard and make you hungrier than you thought you were when you got there. It also happens to be a haven for local political would-bes and has beens and everything in between. A big sign over the dining room entrance boasts (translated) If you want to get elected, eat lunch at Casa Marin (of course in Spanish it rhymes and has a great ring to it). The owner is usually on hand to share his thoughts on all things politics and if he likes you might even ask you to join him on air during a spot he has on an AM radio talk show which discusses, well what else, politics, of course. They serve up some pretty good sandwiches and all their plates are heavily portioned. Fresh chicarrones sold by weight, you tell them what you want to spend and they shovel up the right amount into a brown bag made just to soak up the greasy deliciousness. Had to go see some tile store yesterday in Hialeah and a friend recommended for us to go have lunch at Casa Marin. The Plates were huge; really for the price they were huge, so much so that we took half of our lunch home. My husband had Breaded Steak which was delicious with white rice and black beans. I had a tamal and it had no seasoning so I had to help it along with some salt & pepper and a bit of ketchup on the side to see if it would get some taste. I also had Arroz con Pollo a la Chorrera. Great taste, really delicious. I had a leg of chicken under that rice. But personally and this is to each his own, I thought it was too much "chorrera", I mean the grains of rice almost disappeared and it became a mush soup. But again great taste. Then my husband had torrejas. Now I am used to torrejas being made with French Bread/Baguette. This was a slice of white bread drenched in yellow tinted syrup with a lot of vanilla. I had cascos de guayaba with cream cheese, and again the cascos were "azucarados" like they had been in a can for too long, so sweet and sugar crusted that they were hard to swallow. What did get us upset, was that we were sitting near a table that had all the cutlery, takeout trays, and water glasses as well as the water pitcher. One of the servers knocked into it and a glass fell on the floor and rolled around. She picked it up and instead of taking it away to be washed, she put it right back with the rest of the glasses!!!! My grandparents wanted to try this place that had caught their eye. Before I get too deep into this, it's important that I explain my relatively middle of the road rating. Usually, I focus mostly on the food. But sometimes so many negatives or positives are at play that they have to be taken into account. There's a ton of negative going on at this place. It's unfortunate too, but a little more on that later. Because I don't want to be a long-winded jerk, I will bulletpoint most of the really bad parts, just for readability. *The parking is an absolute horror. I'm not exaggerating one bit either. Hialeah can get pretty bad, but this is bad even by Hialeah standards. (And yes, I lived in Hialeah for 20 years, that wasn't a shot at Hialeah, lol) *The front looks run down, the inside looks like the cafeteria of one of those small 2 grade private schools they have all around here for Pre K and Kindergarten. A special note on this- I almost never care about the decor but I did hate eating in there because they were just slapping tables together where they could fit. That led to fellow patrons slapping the side and/or back of my chair more than a few times. (And it wasn't the same guy every time either, so it wasn't just one guy being a jerk) This last negative, I have to talk about a little more in depth. The service is really, pretty bad. Maybe they aren't used to great tips... maybe they don't even care, but that server was very impatient with my grandfather. My grandfather is 90, and I can tell you right now, he can be a handful and he is a cheapskate when it comes to tipping, but come on. She treated him like she had ten other tables to get through (she didn't, I made it a point to notice so that I could point that out here). She was rushing his sentences, winding him down so that he would get to the point and was pretty visibly peeved when I asked for more water. This is Hialeah so what can u expect? It seemed like the other servers weren't much better. This is very much a mom and pop shop, one very like the other hundred of similar spots in the city. Glad to get that negativity outta the way! On to the good! The food was delicious. I'd say the food is a solid 4, with a strong argument for a 4.5. I had a breaded steak that wasn't evenly breaded, so I ended up with this gigantic elephant ear on my plate that was about 4 inches of empty breading lol... but it was very tasty. They gave me some delicious black beans and rice for a side. We also had french fries for the table, and I must admit they were a lot better than I could have ever expected. The food value is very generous. You certainly get a lot for your buck, and although we only went there the one time, they have daily specials that change and aren't just items from the regular menu that are listed as "special". Funny enough, as if it were really a cafeteria, the food came out really fast. Everything was accurate, despite the turbo speed it came out in. All in all, a reliable workhorse of a place that I would gladly go to if I was busy and near the area. The quick turnaround time is a huge bonus... but there are some glaring flaws that I personally wouldn't overlook and go out of my way for a return visit. read more
