Scrambled hard eggs with potatoes fished out of carne con papa
    Sheila C.

Casa Marin has been an establishment of many years from hardworking Cuban immigrants. It has always been a staple in my hometown of traditional Cuban food. I have been here a few times for lunch or dinner and it was ok. During my recent visit, I was looking forward to a nice tostada and breakfast. Ordered scrambled eggs with ham , cheese and potatoes. When ordering, I asked the waitress what were the options on the cheese and she said they only had offer Swiss cheese which is my least favorite choice. So it was like take it or leave it. Didn't give any options on the potatoes either . My potatoes seemed as they were fished out from the carne con papa special of the day. The eggs were overcooked. Waitress never asked how we prefer the eggs when taking the order. While I waited, I observed the staff and the traffic in and out of the kitchen. This just made me loose my appetite completely when the food came . I observed someone coming in from the street that doesn't seem like an employee walking in straight to the kitchen and coming out eating French fries. Also noticed waitresses coming in for their shift , checking in and not washing their hands before handling food. When we closed our tab, she put it in the table and never asked how was our experience. She was more focused on having loud conversations with the other employees about random things not having to do with the job . Owner was sitting in the corner on the other side of the counter counting money and did not put attention to anything that was going on or just doesn't care. I read in other reviews that the chairs are hard, lol! I must agree. But for those that don't know, they are the typical Cuban chairs called "Taurete" . They do try keeping it very Cuban but they need to step it up on the service and better food options. Overall, this place is definitely one I will not be returning to. There are better options to have a good breakfast in Hialeah.

    DEAD BUG

I've been coming here many years and never once have I experienced what I experienced last night. My parents ordered me food to go and once they brought me the food home to eat that I took only ONE BITE I look at the food and there was a damn dead BUG in my food!! BEYOND disgusted. Called immediately to let them know what happened and not even a sorry was given was just asked if I wanted to changed my meal??? Absolutely not??? I got my money back for this meal. I will not be eating here anymore.

Yes, it's THAT Spanish court show that makes Judge Judy look like a real judge:)

Picture your typical Cuban relative's dining room in East Hialeah. You have the popcorn ceiling with a chandelier. You have a TV showing either a novela or a spanish court show (that makes Judge Judy sound like a Supreme Court Justice) and highbacked wood chairs. The dishes are Cuban comfort food, and the portions are decent. However, sometimes Abuela doesn't customize dishes and you have to pile on the spices yourself. That's what Casa Marin is like. I stopped by for dinner Wednesday while running errands in the area, and went for my usual (chicken milanesa aka Cuban chicken parm). The moros, while tasty, was definitely a smaller portion than I'm used to from various Cuban places. It left a lot of clear plate real estate between it and the sweet plantains. Those tasted OK as well. As far as my main, as y'all know, I like to customize. I asked for light cheese and heavy sauce. The swiss cheese and serrano ham slice were OK, however the chicken I got was plain pollo empanizado (breaded chicken). It seems like they went LIGHT on the sauce. To their credit, my waitress did bring the sauce jar which I liberally sprinkled on the chicken. My cuban bread with herbed butter was pretty good. Would I make an extra, out of my way trip? Not sure, but it is a good option when in this part of Hialeah.

We were lucky to be under the specialized and meticulous care of Idelis, one of the bartenders and a founder of this Doral location. We started with a tasting of the Wines of the Month: * The Gold Rush California Red; highly cherry-fruity with nice depth. * The Vinho Verde; crisp, refreshing, with a very light bubbly sensation. After the tasting, and keeping in mind her preference for reds, we decided to go with 2 bottles of Pinot Noir; elegant, with beautiful red fruit notes, soft tannins, and that classic silky finish that makes it so versatile and easy to enjoy. We started with the house pretzel bun with butter, which is always excellent. From the seasonal menu, we tried the Crispy Barbacoa Arancini, which were very good. For the main course, my girlfriend ordered the Blackened Ahi Tuna and I had the Shanghai Braised Short Rib; tender, perfectly cooked meat with a delicious soy-chili glaze, accompanied by roasted broccolini, shiitake mushrooms, and wasabi silky buttery mashed potatoes. The portions were perfect and the mix of flavors in the sauce and the mashed potatoes is something I can't even describe absolutely phenomenal. For dessert, the Summer Peach Butter Cake (the seasonal option) was already finished, which was very disappointing we couldn't understand why, especially since it was relatively early. We ended up ordering the Key Lime Pie instead, which was very balanced in flavor and sweetness. The crust was excellent and gave the impression of being homemade. Another great visit overall at Cooper's Hawk. The service, the wine, and most of the food never disappoint.

Parking can be a bit challenging, but if you valet it's only $7 or so, if you take your receipt with you at the time of the pick up. I gave them 4 stars because last time we were there our server gave us a bit less cash back ($5) than she should have, and never came back to the table so we could let her know, we waited around for another 10 min to see her, but that was a one off thing! Count your change / Who pays with cash these days anyway. Pro tip: you can do a wine tasting there too and it's always fun to do that before your meal! Makes it taste that much better !!

I sat at the bar which was readily available and quickly greeted given a menu. The place is quaint in size but big in personality, and they have more seating than you'd anticipate from the outside. I appreciated the size of the menu, a variety of options, but not too large, and they had special brunch menu offerings for the weekend. I got a beer and the fried fish sandwich. The fish was flaky and perfectly cooked, and somehow, despite it being deep friend, it wasn't the least bit greasy! The bun was squishy, and the slaw was a glorious addition. Oh and the fries? I could've eaten another portion they were sweet, salty, crispy, soft: perfection. So ya, in case you didn't catch on: 5 for sure, and I WILL be back.

You walk in and immediately feel that local, unpretentious energy that's been missing from a lot of the scene. Do I love that it's on Biscayne? Not really. But the food more than makes up for it. For a bar-style environment, the food is consistently very good. Not just "good for a bar" ... like its actually good. The burger is a must (im pescatarian but my friend said it was delicious!) and their Eggs Benedict at brunch is easily one of my favorites in the area. Pair it with a Bloody Mary and you're set. their happy hour pricing is refreshingly reasonable, which is rare around here. I was talking to one of the bartenders and found out even their bread is made in-house. That kind of consistency and care, especially at these price points, is not easy to maintain and you can feel it in the food. It seems that their leadership (owner or manager, not totally sure) has always been present when I've gone and brings a great energy to the space. It trickles down to the staff and the overall vibe.
