First appearance/First impressions: I first saw the restaurant, it looked unattractive from the outside (but at least it had outside tables). The inside of the restaurant is a bit dusty and has a faint smell, something close to raw plastic. The place looks prepared (menus ready when you walk in, forks and knives wrapped in napkins, ready), the waiter I had spoke English and Spanish which is a major plus to any restaurant. The menus looked old, but still somewhat in good condition. You can see the kitchen once you walk in, (its small inside the restaurant). Overall, there was some cleaning up to do, and a bit more "color" needed, or something to make the outside attractive. Food: It takes a while to get your chips served (which is understandable because the chips are homemade). Sometimes they come out warm, or hot. The salsa that's served is spicy, with great flavor. At first glance, the menu has a lot of options, from traditional Mexican, to traditional American, with some pretty "fancy" stuff for a little restaurant (New York steaks, etc. etc.). The kids meal section is pretty typical, with some simple foods. They do have some pretty good drinks (alcoholic and non). I ordered the California burrito, which was fantastic. The fries were fresh, the guacamole was delicious and the carne asada tasted great. But, the big plate came bare with only a burrito. Bare as in, it looked like a giant lump of tortilla with nothing else. One suggestion would be, maybe add some fries along on the same plate? Or maybe use a different plate entirely, a smaller one so it doesn't look like you were ripped off (even though it wasn't expensive at all). Overall, if you're going to bring a group, sit outside for there is room. The inside is pretty cramped. Great food (suprised me), great for a family, a bit off putting from the outside and inside. 4 Stars: If it was more vibrant or better looking it would be a 5. read more

'A' for effort. The waitresses are friendly and quick. If it wasn't for them, it would have been a lower rating. Chips they served were fresh, but too thin. The salsa was room temperature and felt like it had not been made fresh or at least refrigerated. The Place is like a moderately run down roadside diner...complete with bad parking and bathrooms in the rear. The food gets a 'C-' due to nothing outstanding in flavor. The beans were retried, but had no flavor and only tasted palatable when the cheese was melted on top. The rice was not traditional Spanish rice, and the red sauce they put on top of it did nothing for it. The mole enchiladas were nothing of interest, had no flavor or extra preparation for the filling than just placing their regular chicken taco meat inside, and the mole sauce was sub-par. I think the good reviews come from locals who have not explored thousands of Mexican food locations as I have. If nothing more than the meh mediocre Mexican food, I can say I was turned off by the lack of cleanliness to the floor, counter footing area, the walls, and the booths which were not clean or repaired in a presentable manner. Again, the service was quick and good, but the rest of the experience was not worth a return visit. read more

We stumbled across this gem in Castaic and it has quickly become our go-to spot--honestly, we're here at least 1-2 times a week now. From the moment you walk in, you can feel the difference. It's that true, authentic, family-owned atmosphere where you know the locals come regularly--and for good reason. Raymond and Jenny, the owners, make you feel like you're part of the family every single time. And the food? Consistently amazing across the board. Not just one or two standout dishes--everything is good. The homemade salsas and guacamole are fresh and full of flavor, the menudo is delicious and comforting, and the carne asada is always perfectly cooked and incredibly tender. Even the rice and beans (which a lot of places treat as an afterthought) are packed with flavor. And don't skip the agua de jamaica--so refreshing and the perfect finish. We love supporting family-owned businesses, and this one truly stands out. You can taste the quality, feel the care, and see why it's a local favorite. Do yourself a favor and stop by--you won't be disappointed. read more

I recently hit up Casa Lupitas in Castaic and man, it's hands down a 5-star experience! I'm all about that authentic Mexican food, and this place nailed it. No doubt, it's the top spot in town for Mexican cuisine. Their food? Totally on point. I mean, I could taste the real deal in every bite. What made the experience even better was the exceptional customer. What really impressed me was their strategy to cater to both American and Mexican Americans. I could taste the difference in their salsas, tailored to suit diverse palates. It's a smart move, and it makes everyone feel at home. This restaurant is a true gem for anyone seeking authentic Mexican cuisine. Pro-tip: if you ask to add jalapeños, be prepared for some spiciness ! read more

Ah Hilario's. I first remember eating this food once for free at a food truck at five point once…read morethe new homes in a new residence were made roughly 2 years ago. Five point if you don't know, is a new area around where I live that allows vendors to come and sell their food for promotions of their business during certain seasons and events. Sort of like a convention but with food. Anyway, I tried their birria tacos and burritos with rice and beans in a plate. It was delicious! 2 years later, I finally came to try out their actual food at their built location. Let me forewarn you, it was phenomenal! Okay, so the place is in a nice location, far from me in a residential area around Santa Clarita valley, California. For those living outside California but want to venture out, this place if available, is my favorite Mexican food here. One thing to note, the employee working here was STRANGE. You remember watching Monsters Inc. the movie? You remember that Snail with the glasses? ROZ, the snail, the employee here, the man was identical to that Snail. Same glasses, slow, monotone voice and looked the same, albeit a man v woman. Anyway, the customer service was odd to say the least in my honest opinion. Not in a bad way, but in a bizarre way. It was fine, the other woman working in the back, just gave me the most strangest vibes ever! I think one of her eyes was cross eyed because she didn't look at me directly but talked to me after I said the food was good and goodbye. The service was very quick as in 2-3 minutes after ordering and receiving and the interior was super clean. Pictures uploaded. There was a sauce and salsa station next to the register that had a delicious taste, one was a spicy red orange colored sauce with a lot of blended peppers and the other one was a green mild sauce with blended herbs and other ingredients. The taste however; was absolute money. It was one of the best salsa and sauces I've ever had. They also had other things like jalapeños, jicama sliced and pico de gallo with some other type of salsa, picture included. Overall, best Mexican food I've had ever! Given the circumstances, food quality, quantity, price, service, convenience, taste, cleanliness etc. that I have tried thus far, at least within the last 10 years. Of course there are better I haven't tried, but man, what a gem. The only gripe I have is the odd behavior of the two employees. I never seen this type of look and behavior in people so similar to that monsters inc. movie. Just the most bizarre and unnatural service ever. Anyway I give this a 9.7/10. By all means, everything was fantastic. The area is located in such a hidden residential area, that without my Google Maps, I would never really know how to find this place.
