My wife, son and I had a good experience dining for the first time at Dario's...one of a handful of family owned one-off restaurants in Santa Clarita that we've been slowly making our way through. We all love Mexican food, and my son and I are vegetarian so it comes down to whether we have options to choose from. We did! Our server was also knowledgeable in terms of what and wasn't vegetarian which was helpful. (ie their regular refried beans and rice are both not vegetarian, but they offer black beans and a white rice which are.) I had potato tacos. I mean vegetarian or not you can't go wrong with a fried taco filled with potatoes. They were good and the vegetarian rice also had some flavor to it which I appreciated. I also had a mezcal margarita which looked beautiful and tasted good too. We were seated quickly for a crowded Friday night with other people waiting as well. There are a lot of classic Mexican food options for vegetarians. We appreciated the dark vibe and decor as well which made us feel we were dining in a nice place in a sea of fast food and fresh-Mex places that are good, but don't give as nice a 'dining out' vibe as Dario's did. I've been coming here for years, the food and the service has always been wonderful! it's a lovely atmosphere, they don't have live music as much anymore but occasionally they have a trio of musicians walk around and sing! The margs aren't watered down and the food portions are great! read more

Unfortunately, we've reached our breaking point with Dario's. We live right down the street and this has been our go-to Mexican restaurant for a long time. We've consistently given them the benefit of the doubt, assuming each visit would be better than the last. Sadly, that hasn't been the case--and this most recent experience was enough to say no more. The service is consistently poor from most of the servers, but especially Juan, who we seem to be seated with far too often. Unless you're ordering drinks directly from the bar, you feel completely ignored--like just another number. We watched our waiter pace back and forth doing nothing, then begin completing his end-of-shift duties while we were still waiting. We had to ask two other servers just to get take-out boxes and our check. To make matters worse, we finished two full baskets of chips before even receiving our ice waters. The food didn't redeem the experience either. The albondigas soup was essentially all water with vegetables--no flavor whatsoever. Between the consistently inattentive service and disappointing food, we've finally had enough. It's unfortunate, especially for a neighborhood restaurant we wanted to continue supporting, but we won't be returning. read more

Love this family run restaurant! Food is consistently delicious for the last 25 years, great margaritas, and the portions are massive!! Love the authentic flavors, super friendly staff and great vibes. Feels like a more upscale location, simply lot, red comfortable booths, and great for a date night, or coke with friends and family! I go here for the vibe not the food. The food is okay. Nothing to write home about except their shrimp and scallop stuffed releño covered in a chipotle sauce and crema. This is a gem, if they still have it. The menus keep changing here because the prices of everything keep fluctuating. This place is great to go have a Michelada and have their amazing bean dip and salsa.(If they don't bring the dip ask for it, it's free with salsa. I went to Dario's just for the Happy Hour deals. I ordered a drink on the happy hour menu. I let the waiter know I wanted vodka instead of tequila in my drink because I'm allergic to tequila. The waiter never warned me I would be charged FULL PRICE for my drinks. When I brought it up to the waiter, once receiving my bill, he told me to talk to the manager. So, I explained to the manager what happened and asked if he could either correct the bill or just charge me an up charge for the vodka and he said absolutely not and would not Compromise or budge at all. My most recent visit I placed my order for pick up and the portions were just as large as they are in when eating there. The purple Cadillac is a great twist on the regular Cadillac with an inclusion of Chambord to give it that little extra raspberry flavor. Good fajitas - a surprisingly large portion that arrives to the table still sizzling. The Carne Tampiqueña was a bit disappointing - arrived w/ burned bacon and the steak was very overcooked. Service is very efficient here. Parking can be a nightmare when it's busy - they have a very tiny, cramped paring lot, so it's normally street parking available. Saturday afternoon, we came here for the first time. This is hands down the best Mexican food I've tasted in a while. We sat in the bar area, and Omar was great. He was friendly and attentive. He made me a cadillac Margarita that was very tasty. I recommend coming here. I had tried there sizzling fajitas, and my bf has the burrito meal. Omg that asada burrito was the BOMB. Food was good. I had an off night by asking for the carne asada medium and it came WELL DONE grey looking lol. The waiter was soooooo sweet apologized 100 times and took it to the back and had it redone... this time it came out rare. But other than that drinks were good, chips and salsa and bean dip were delicious and their customer service was top notch. I am a very small eater. So when I tried to order the kids meal, I was disappointed they didn't let me order it. At $12, it was expensive enough. Yum! Dario's has family meal kits so we decided to try one out ! We got the mole Enchilada meal! 8 tortillas stuffed with grilled chicken and a tasty mole sauce on top! Came with a generous portion of their tasty beans and rice. Large container of chips and salsa rounded out our meal. Pickup was easy. It was kind of Eerie seeing Dario's empty . Usually it's full of life and boisterous, we will get back to that some day but for now I am grateful I can still enjoy their tasty food! Everything was packed well. One of the main things l enjoy about this restaurant is the ambiance. I love that it has wonderful seating all leather booths! The lighting is intimate and cozy. I also enjoy the service. The staff is knowledgeable warm and friendly. I ordered cheese enchiladas which l found quite satisfying. The side dishes were also tasty. I especially liked the salsa. Been here several times over the last couple of years. In a way a strange location (almost part of a gas station) but the ambience, of somewhat dark feeling at lunchtime, is good and welcoming. The statutory chips and salsa after you are seated, survey the menu and specials and make your pick. In the evenings there can be a wacky guy (English by birth I believe) playing the keyboard - yes most of the clientele are older. Actually with all the velvet curtains this could be a ideal discrete rendezvous spot - or something out of an episode of Dateline if an unsuspecting spouse discovers you (I know - but it is Halloween tomorrow!) I'm not from this area. In fact, I'm from an area where there are a lot of great options for Mexican food. This place seems like a small family run place. Dark inside and a small bar with a few folks watching March Madness on their tv. Seemed like maybe a dozen indoor booths/tables. People working there were friendly. I ordered online here through YELP. Apparently, I was their first YELP order and they weren't aware that an order came in. It was easy enough to verify. They had the food up quickly. Machaca burrito was a decent size. Flavor was not bad. Would have liked more sauce and cheese on top. But, that's a personal preference thing. Chips were warm and decent. It was a little pricey for what you get. But, then again, all food seems to be going up. There are other Mexican places around here. If I had to have another meal up here I'd try one of the other places. If it was one of a few places available I would come back. read more
