I've tried and I can't think of one thing this place did well. We paid $35 for 2 combos and chips and queso. I could barely choke it down. Don't waste your money. Took my team out for lunch on their request. I was told ahead of time for Newton this is considered quite good. Maybe I'm just picky? Maybe it was an off day? They were quite busy for lunch so this place is definitely popular. Ambiance: standard Mexican restaurant Cleanliness: we went close to opening and everything appeared clean although it was a little gross looking over and seeing straight area where plates were passed to the servers and see the servers eating foods bare handed and not washing their hands before returning to serve. Service: very quick with food roll out but nobody was asked for a refill until the very end of the meal when we were paying. Food: the chips were stale-- no way around it. We asked for spicier salsa and what they brought out was extremely spicy however fully sacrificed flavor. Just entirely too acidic and all heat yet extremely bland. The rest of the table thought the regular salsa was bland as well. Ordered the fajitas and look, it's really hard to mess up fajitas but the meat quality I could just tell was very low. The beef was stringy and really wet. What they brought out was more steaming versus sizzling which I found odd. The flavor was okay though. Honestly one of the stronger points of the meal was the refried beans. Wouldn't change a thing on those. Very flavorful. I think if I returned I would just not order the fajitas. Everyone else seemed to enjoy what they got and at the end of the day that's all that mattered was that my team was happy. Overall 2.5. Not the worst. Far from the best. read more

We stopped here for lunch after shopping for a wedding dress. All of us are out of town so first timers! I had the lunch special with the Chile relleno and beef taco with guacamole. The relleno was very good, tender with nice amount of cheese. The sauce over it was good - a hint of kick, good flavor. Rice was good too. The taco was crispy and fresh. Oh dear! They haven't claimed their Yelp page? Someone, that has a better grasp of Spanish than I, needs to help them maximize their fantastic community presence. We went there because I NEEDED BEANS. They know how to make a delicious refried bean! My mom ordered the Chili Relleno and got two big fatties. My son ended up swiping her Perrito* Bag (*means doggie, now you know all the Spanish I know). Nuking it and it was still the best Chili Relleno I've seen. I ordered a shrimp dish and, while it was tasty, I'll keep touring the menu until I find an appropriate addiction. I ordered a torta de carne asada for my meal which to my surprise was not on a bollio bread and was served with fries. The torta had way too much mayo on it and the tortilla chips given before my meal tasted a little old. I'm sorry to say that this once great restaurant has gone bad. Two weeks ago we ate lunch here and the service was terrible. Giving them another chance, we returned a week later. This time the service was even worse. What was wrong? When our meal was served it was brought out only part of my meal was served, I had no flatware. The two other meals were not served. After 5 minutes I asked about the remaining food and was rudely told it was coming. After another five minutes the rest of my dinner arrived and the second persons meal came. The third meal, a child dinner, was not brought out for another five minutes. The staff either does not understand that it is proper to serve the entire table at once, or they are so unorganized that they are overwhelmed. I will not return. read more

Best Mexican restaurant in Newton, by far. I'll start with the down side. Ask for an older waiter, the younger ones spend the whole night looking around instead of at you when helping your table. Not sure what they are looking for, but they never seem to find it as they keep looking. Now the good part, the food. My daughter always gets the steak and cheese sandwich. Yep, at a Mexican joint. She swears by it. Shrimp Chimichanga, smothered chicken and chili rellenos almost always are on our table. Chips and salsa never run out. Good food, good portions make for a great meal.
