When Arturo left his Des Moines restaurant to go back to Mexico I was sad. We have been looking for a new Mexican restaurant close to home for the past year with little success. We found this place while eating at Shelly's next door and decided to come back and give it a try. Overall we are going to keep looking. Let me start off by saying this food isn't horrible, it just isn't that good. It's your typical gringo american/mexican you either love or hate. My personal opinion is there are far too many better places within a 5 minute drive. La Costa is a great example 5 minutes north. Arturo's in Des Moines is far better and only 5 minutes south. This place really needs something to help it stand out. A signature dish... My biggest complaint is is the quality. They do something here that a lot of bad Mexican restaurants do. They leave their chicken sitting in a liquid container to keep it moist until they make the individual dishes. When you order a chicken dish it comes out a soggy mess. This way they don't have to cook chicken to order. When you order a chalupa or hard shell taco its going to come out soggy and falling apart. Its not grease its the liquid the chicken is stored in for who knows how long. Its a pet peeve I personally have; you may like soggy moist chicken so if that is what you like this is the place for you. The restaurant itself is clean and the staff is nice enough. Plenty of parking. Overall Meh 2 stars seems like a proper rating for my experience. We won't be back but you may love it like many other reviewers seem to. read more

I wish we could provide half-stars because I would really like to give this restaurant 21/2 stars. I got the thighs marinated in adobo sauce so I wrongfully concluded it came with some sort of sauce. (And, of course had to order cheese because the dish did not include that either.) When I saw the dish was pretty dry, the waitress was kind enough to bring me a little enchilada sauce, but the dinner still fell flat. While the meat itself was tasty, the rest of the meal was pretty bland. And the portions were very small for a Mexican restaurant. Had 5 hours to kill while waiting for a flight out of Sea-TAC. Found this place on YELP and it was outstanding. The food is delicious. We had tacos and the fajita burrito (which is enormous). So this restaurant was on my way home so I stopped in to have a chili rellenos and a shot. I measure a Mexican restaurant by their chili rellenos. There was a happy hour sign on the door before you come in, Bonus! I was surprised that they didn't have a bar per-say. The place is small but warm and Memo my server was pleasant and quick. The chips were hot and the salsa was tasty, chock-o-block with tomatoes, onions and cilantro with just the right amount of heat. The special was chili rellenos and enchiladas but I had just left La Costa and didn't need all of that. So I ordered the chili rellenos ala carte. Another place I think they make pre-prepared but they dip them in batter and fry them up other than already dipped and cooked then reheated. The chili looked great and smelled great with a thicker ranchero sauce. I dug in immediately and I must say, yum! It was loaded with cheese and large in size with a little bit of spice. Again my only complaint is that it didn't have Mexican crema drizzled over it, but I lived. I recommend the chili rellenos here if that is what you like. I'll try other menu items the next time I'm in town. I'll be back! read more

I had the Pollo Con Mole, which was good, but nothing spectacular. More concerned was I with the quality of service. Upon entering, we stood in the doorway for two minutes before any one showed to greet us. When she did show, we were told in a mousey voice to sit anywhere. The busser who poured our first cup of water seemed to want to be anywhere other than there, as demonstrated by his halfhearted attempt to stop the water before our cups were over filled. No success there. Our waitress, the same mousey voice from before, couldn't remember all the details of our order, and so forgot our iced tea, and had us repeat our order right after taking it. We kept having to ask her to repeat herself as she spoke in the same tiny voice she used to seat us. But here's the kicker, we ordered chocolate fried ice cream for desert, we had to repeat the order minutes later, and when it came to us we discovered it to be a ball of vanilla ice cream rolled in cornflakes, with chocolate syrup drizzled on top. No chocolate ice cream, and the ice cream wasn't even fried! Just raw cornflakes over ice cream, which our waitress quietly confirmed for us. Add to this that desert cost $7...for ice cream and cornflakes! We won't be returning there. read more

My wife and I live in Normandy Park where this restaurant is located. We went to this restaurant for the first time last night .I will say we will NEVER go back!!! Although the food was ok, we had ordered a plate to share. We asked for a list of pricing for their drinks which we never received so ended up ordering glasses of wine. Got the bill, the wine was way over priced for what tasted like box wine then we were charged for a chef salad( $9.99), which we didn't order. When we asked why we were charged for the salad, the waiter, (who also subs for a cook), he told us this during our dinner, said that the charge was because we ordered one plate to share and he had to bring us another plate to eat it. We weren't being cheap, we can afford to order two plates, but we wasn't that hungry and we were not sure of the quality of the food being our first time there. I can now see why this place was empty when we got there and empty when we left. I am sure they pull this on most all that come in this facility and has a reputation of being a rip off joint. Lee F. Casa Durango is a total find. The place is immaculate, it was the first thing I noticed when we walked in. Everything was so clean! We loved the food, the portions were great, the servers were friendly. They accommodated our 2 year old with smiles, special treats (they brought beans out with our chips so she could dip here chips in the beans like we were dipping ours in the salsa). Price was reasonable.... I am so excited we found this place! I have been looking for tasty and consistent Mexican food in our area (South West Seattle, Burien) for awhile! Definitely worth a visit. Extremely friendly service and they're always smiling seeing your familiar face. Not Tex-Mex like most restaurants around here. Seats (booth) are a little uncomfortable but everything else is great. I really liked this restaurant. My family was staying in a hotel near the airport and was craving Mexican. The Yelp review was right! LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the food. Previous reviewers are correct, the food is amazing and the carne asada, to die for. The sauces are fresh and the FLAVOR? Well, WOW is the word that I like to use in describing everytime we eat. We like to go in on Sundays and sometimes on Thursdays for lunch. There is allways the same odd, gendar challenged little man working, all though lately there is a cute little girl there on Thursdays. While the food is amazing, and salsa fantastic, I would caution on the service. I think that the man that is allways there on Sundays likes to tip back a drink (or 10), as he is slurry and sometimes very forgetfull. And on Thursdays, well, sometimes smells (overwhelmingly) like he has partaken of the herb that makes you feel good. I would love to bring my clients in to eat, for a business lunch but am never quiet sure what server we will get. If I could be assured that we would have the girl, we would eat there every day.
