The shells were crisp and light without being greasy, and the fillings were well-seasoned without overdoing it. I added a brigadeiro for dessert and it was spot on, rich and balanced. I went back the next day for the fresh sugarcane juice and ordered the beef and cheese again. Same result. The juice was clean, lightly sweet, and refreshing, and the pastels were just as good as the first time. It's a small, no-frills spot. Clean, simple, nothing fancy. A nice welcoming, friendly place with amazing staff and good music. It is a neighborhood Brazilian style restaurant. The menu is posted on the wall. They have a big variety of pasteis. I was told they are similar to an empanada. The counter has some pastries and dessert items that looked really good. I saw some of those fabulous cheese bread that i liked so much. The restaurant has an Acai bar towards the front and special juices. I liked the place. The sitting area is cute. Everything looked very clean and well kept. I bought some items. I don't know the name of some of what I got. Everything tasted great. The little round sweet brown things that tasted a little like condense milk to me tasted good. The coconut cornbread is a must try. I loved it. The flavor and texture were both great. I got some cheese bread. They were nice, warm, and good. My Brazilian friend said she didnt love the seasoning of the heart of palm mini pie and it's not as good as what she's had in other restaurants in south Florida. We have made this place a favorite after visiting many times over the years (Why had I not reviewed it before this?). It is in a small strip mall, there's plenty of parking, it is always clean and neat, there are tables and counters and, all-in-all, it is a very nice little cafe. The food made here is sensational. It is cooked fresh to what we believe to be traditional Brazilian recipes, by people from that country, and the pastries and baked goods are delicate, a perfect size, not so expensive and always, always delicious. The parking in the little shopping plaza there can be a bit tight but it's probably one of the definitive salgado bakeries around. They got all the stuff you are looking for, coxinhas, pastels, pao, sfihas, kibe, all the cakes, and puddings. Huge variety of stuff to choose from. Service was quick, although if you get there towards the end of the day they tend to run out of stuff. They didn't have pão de queijo ready but they had it as frozen balls ready to bake, which was fine in my case because I plan to eat it piping hot for breakfast tomorrow anyway. Authentic Brazilian bakery, the restaurant is counter service with several tables inside. The restaurant is super clean and the service is very friendly even for us non-Brazilians. Their specialties are Empanadas, they have every filling you can think of like beef with heart of palms, beef with sundried tomatoes, cheese and eggs and so many more. They even have sweet empanadas with fillings like dulce de leche and chocolate coconut and more, The empanadas are each made from scratch to ensure the freshest quality. The dough is perfect and the stuffing is just the right combination. Casa Do Pastel also has several varieties of fresh soups available, chicken pies, traditional cheese breads, salty pastries, acai bowls, fresh juices and a large array of homemade cakes, churros with dulce de leche, Brazilian pastries and tamales either sweet or salty, everything of course made fresh from scratch. Everything is very reasonably priced with Empanadas being under $3. There are several Brazilian bakeries in the area but I found that they only speak Portuguese and are not friendly if you don't speak the language, so I found Casa Do Pastel very refreshing in that their service was just as friendly and attentive. Some of the food does take a few minutes to come out due to it being made fresh, this is not a fast food restaurant, expect to wait a few minutes for quality fresh food. And to find the best in Broward, you may be tempted to go to a place that may as well call themselves the House of Empanadas. And so this is what it is - the House of Empanadas, in Portuguese. Only in Broward, and amidst the Brazilian emporia along Sample Road. And to recap - a pastel [pasteles (pl., spanish) / pastéis (pl., portuguese)] is a fried dough empanada. Brazil and Venezuela are the only countries I know of that goes with that name for the empanadas. While Miami has Pastel Gourmet which is tasty and all, this place has a larger and more intriguing selection and the empanadas are even a bit bigger. For that reason, their prices are across the board - $1.80 to $2.50, with one "Special" for $4.50 (a large one consisting of beef, eggs, olives, pepperoni, ham & cheese). And they have authentic fillings such as hearts of palm with cheese, sardines with catupiry (Brazilian cream cheese), shrimp, etc. Not all of them will rock your boat - just pick the ones you will like - they'll have something to cater to your taste. I don't know if it's the ambiance and hearing everyone speaking Portuguese or the delicious salgadinhos they have to offer. If you happen to be in the area, stumbling upon this gem will be the best thing you do. Casa do Pastel offers over 40 different types of pastéis, my mom and I ordered a coxinha de galinha with catupiry (the ONLY way you order coxinha) and two pastéis: one frango and catupiry and the second beef with palmito (heart of palm). As A Brazilian living in Idaho, I'm constantly on the lookout for good small Brazilian places which serve authentic Brazilian food. Casa do Pastel serves amazing Pastel (Brazilian deep fried empanadas), Chicken Hush Puppies (Coxinhas) and a lot more. They just didn't earn a fifth star because their 4 cheeses Pastel had barely any cheese. I explained to them what 4 cheese means to us in the US. They use a Mexican blend with Cheddar, Jack, Asiago and Asadero. Due to the cheese being shredded, there was barely any cheese in there.
