This was our first time trying Casa Catrina. The space is beautifully decorated, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Our server was friendly and attentive, which we appreciated. Unfortunately, that's where the positives end. We started with the guacamole appetizer, which was quite small for the price. Our main dishes were fine but nothing special. Food is not particularly authentic apart from the salsa. We also requested some hot sauce and were surprised to find there was an extra charge for it once the bill came, it was homemade but we would have been happy with a bottle of Tapatio. Overall, we probably won't be back. There are definitely better options for quality Mexican food in the Valley, at a more reasonable price point. read more

I've been a customer since this location first turned into a Mexican restaurant years ago. First Don Juan and now Casa Catrina. I've been back several times and always wanted to be much happier after the experience, but unfortunately cannot report such an experience after my latest visit. Firstly, the place is very attractive, so felicitaciones to the person responsible for the design. Unfortunately, as the case with many restaurants, more attention is put into the decor than the food. I'll make this quick... My chicken enchiladas were very mediocre, without much flavor, and delivered lukewarm to the table. The chips are quite good. The salsa is mediocre. The hot green salsa is not good at all. The presentation on the plate was really poor, with the items haphazardly placed with no adornment with cilantro or anything to make the dish look appealing. The chicken was not all white meat and not very flavorful... And not much of it. Service was just ok... Nothing more than the minimal expected. The prices are about in line with other Mexican restaurants, but this one nickels and dimes you--actually dollars--for any common small things you might ask for, such as a couple of skinny lime wedges. I can't speak to the overall bar-drink quality, but there's a nice cocktail menu with some creative offerings. I tasted the tequila sunrise margarita and thought it was a bit imbalanced and light on the sour element. It's too bad. The place is really cozy and the paintings are fantastic. They're framed with ornate, painted borders and are set against a light-colored wall, giving the restaurant a warm, inviting atmosphere. The Day of the Dead theme adds a cultural touch, celebrating Mexican heritage which adds to the experience. Unfortunately, the kitchen needs to up its game to match the quality of the art. Not planning on returning soon... although I wish them well. I will drive significantly farther to go to Plaza Azteca, but we'll try them again in another 6 months or so in hopes of improvement. Casa Catrina is less than a mile from my house, so I greatly want them to succeed, but they need to make changes in their food quality. read more

Great Mexican restaurant in the LV. Formally known as Fiesta Ole. This place has been around for over two decades. I am friendly with the owner and the staff and really enjoy coming here. Not sure why this place had one-star reviews. The others may have just had a bad day. Stopped by with my boyfriend's family on a Wednesday night and it's was still a pretty busy night. I can't imagine on the weekend. The parking lot is pretty big and we found a spot up front. Started out with salsa and chips and the chips were freshly fried and thick. I love thick chips. The salsa was pretty good. I started with the passion fruit margarita. It was pretty good, definitely strong so I wasn't mad. We ordered the traditional guacamole. Wish it was a little thicker. It was a bit more tart but overall, it was good. I ordered the fish tacos, my boyfriend got the iron pig burrito, other members of the family got the fajita mango habanero, and ground beef tacos (other burritos were ordered but I didn't catch which ones). The fish tacos were fire! Also realized I forgot to take pictures. Wish the fried fish was a little bigger in each taco but the flavor or it was so good. It was simple with pickled onions, avocado slice, pico de gallo, and chipotle Mayo. I think the Mayo made the taco. I shared with my boyfriend and tried some of his iron pig burrito and it was yummy too. They had a Chile habanero hot sauce that was very flavorful but be careful, it has a nice kick. I have driven by this place a lot recently, and with my love of Mexican food it was a no brainer that I would stop here one day to eat. I will not say I was disappointed with my food, but it was just average at best. My issue with Casa Catrina is that nothing was done well. The food was okay, the service was okay, the decor is just okay, the pricing is reasonable. Nothing stood out. The menu is mostly the normal safe Mexican food tacos, burritos, enchiladas, stuff like that. The food was just kind of bland and under seasoned, Mexican food is known for being flavorful, this food was missing that. The portions on the food were on the larger size, the burrito was too big for one person to finish. Looking back on the meal I would rate it as not quite as good as On the border, the chain restaurant. Overall a fine restaurant to eat at, not good, not bad but average and sometime average is fine. Located in old house that has been various restaurants over the years. The decor is very Mexican. Seats at the bar and tables downstairs and upstairs. The Mexican music was a tad too loud for me, as people do want to have audible conversations. Restrooms were clean, but could use a few small repairs. The menu is quite extensive. I highly recommend the Watermelon Margarita, Ceviche appetizer and the Enchiladas Mexicano. As one of the people in America that goes out to eat on a birthday I went for my Abwelitas birthday and we consumed the steak tacos, el Mexicano burrito (chicken), and a ribeye steak. The chef undercooked Abwelita's steak quite a bit and forgot her rice however Eduardo came to the rescue, give that man a raise. His service was fantastic and we felt so welcome there. Imagine a fire fighter but for our food. However because of the undercooked steak and missing rice I can't give a 5 star. So with a very heavy heart I rate 4 stars. read more

I ordered a fajita ranchera, my wife ordered a single meat (beef) fajita. The waiter or cook goofed up the order to where I got the single meat fajita (which was chicken, and very sparse amount of chicken and tons of green peppers and onion) . I thought I was supposed to get chorizo and bacon with the chicken, but being my fist time there I figured I made a mistake and was remembering an item on a different dish. Wrong! My wife got her beef fajita but it had my chorizo and bacon on it. I don't know who made the mistake but both orders were wrong. The single meat chorizo that I got , in my opinion, was only worth $9.50, for the amount of chicken that was on it. Both plates has refried beans that couldn't melt the cheese sprinkled on it. Tiny cups of coffee that needed to be constantly refilled but waiter couldn't find the time to take care of that on a slow night. Overall, average Mexican food, not worth the price. (Even if they get the order right) Sorry guys, you blew it! My first time there and my last time and that's too bad for you, as we were scouting out restaurants for upcoming visitors from out of state. I made a reservation for the first floor so seating was no problem. The handicap parking is right near a ramp so walking enter was easy. Our server, Brad, took care of us right away with drink orders and dinner menu. I have had the beef enchilada's in the past which were ok, seemed to missing something as far as flavor. This time I order the pulled pork Burrito, Senior Wolfe. Again the meat seemed to lack flavor and as I was chewing found there were lots of fatty pork whitch ruined the meal although I tried and found more fatty grizzle which caused me stop eating and I mainly picked out the rice, beans and cheese. I ordered the red Sangria which was very good and I have to say that Brad was attentive and checked back with me and my guest. I didn't complain to him about the meal because I did eat most of the rice, beans and cheese. So I give high marks to Brad, poor marks for food. It's Cinco de Mayo.... so I can understand the hustle and bustle with the dinner crowd. But overall I was not all that impressed. The Queso Condido wasn't bad, and the Pico de Guaca was good. The avocado was fresh. The drinks were a bit small.... first ones came out on the rocks and were good, the second were blended and I left most of it there frozen. And last time I checked, alcohol (EtOH) doesn't freeze. When it came to our food, the ceviche was good, but one person ordered the burrito. He had a dairy intolerance, so we asked for no cheese/sour cream... easy enough. Well, sure enough it came out with cheese on it. Felt bad for asking to make it right, but we did request it. In the end, the waiter brought out a lava cake on the house, which was appreciated. Overall, it was ok. Nothing to rave about. Went for dinner Friday night at 5:30ish. Did not make a reservation. Wanted an outside seat waited 20-30 minutes (they said 15). I didn't think that was bad considering we had no reservation and it was dinner time. Got a seat outside. Live music - was nice, a bit loud but he was good. When we were leaving my bf told him it was a bit loud. He was very appreciative for the feedback and told us he wished we would have told him sooner. But i digress..... The service was great. Food came out very fast. We had just started our appetizer when our meal came out. I guess that's not a bad problem to have. Food was delicious. I walked inside and told one of the servers that we chose to dine outside. She told me to go around to the patio, and someone was going to be there to seat us. We went around and literally sat ourselves. That was the first red flag. We then ordered ceviche, and the flautas de pollo. The ceviche was awful. I should've sent it back the minute I tried it. It was literally was all tomato and a drop of lime. The flautas we're passable, nothing special really. I know that it is a new restaurant, but the staff seemed confused and were not very attentive. Our waiter had dirty finger nails, which was disgusting. I also saw him touch his mouth multiple times. We had beef nachos as our appetizer, which were good. Our dinners were tasteless. I had the chicken taco bowl. The chicken had no seasoning at all. Very bland and boring. I did not touch the shell, since I saw the waiters fingers touch it. My husband had a chimichanga, which came with a side of bland decried beans and rice. My daughter had the Maya burrito, which was a tortilla filled with rice and onions and minimal beans, which was supposed to be the main ingredient. Again, no flavor. We attempted dessert, which was received ice cream and churros. The received ice cream was a bowl of mush with cinnamon tortillas. The churros were mushy inside. First time here last night. Overall, everything was very good. Salsa served with the chips was outstanding. Guacamole, flautas and enchiladas suizas were all great. The carnitas were tasty but a major salt bomb. Service was very good, even with sitting on the patio. Biggest complaint is the price of a margarita. I normally expect a house margarita to run about $7-8. We didn't receive a drink menu and just ordered margaritas when we arrived. Imagine my great surprise when the bill came and our 6 margaritas (2 for each of 3 of us) were $83.94. $14 for each margarita?! A great find in Allentown, the restaurant is a bit small so I def recommend making reservations ahead. The staff is very friendly, and welcoming. We started off with pico which is so good! The lime was the perfect amount and it tasted great with the house nachos and salsa. For dinner I ordered the shrimp taco bowl. It is a big portion and Delicious. Kinda felt endless!
