Torre is a beautiful restaurant. The building is impressive, the atmosphere is pleasant and comfortable, and the staff is friendly, although service can be slow. One positive: when we had a complaint about a visibly overcooked item that was burnt black, the manager handled it quickly and professionally. He did not stop at the table, but he offered a comp without quibbling, which I appreciated. Unfortunately, that was the highlight. Upon entering, the host made no eye contact while asking, "Can I help you?" while he looked up at the TV changing the channel with the remote in his hand. Rule #1: Make eye contact with your guests when they arrive. Your TV can wait. (Common sense??) This was my third visit, and the food was no better than the first two times. Torre is the perfect example of a restaurant that spent heavily on the building, decorations, and flashy multicolored tequila tower, but not nearly enough attention on the actual food. The food is mediocre at best, light on flavor, and wildly overpriced. $15 for two tiny chicken enchiladas with absolutely nothing else on the plate? Not even adorned by any garnish of any kind. Then $5 extra for a little rice and another $5 extra for black beans? That is outrageous. The chicken in the enchiladas was dry, and parts of the corn tortilla were hard. The tortilla chips were so thin they barely held up to the guacamole. The salsa was decent, but the guacamole portion was tiny. If you want an upscale-looking place and care more about atmosphere than food, portions, or value, Torre may be for you. But if you actually want flavorful, satisfying Mexican food at a reasonable price, you can do much better. Plaza Azteca -- around the corner (Saucon Valley Square--3731 PA-378, Bethlehem) or the location on Lehigh Street in Allentown -- offers FAR better food, MUCH better value, and a MUCH more enjoyable meal overall. Torre LOOKS great. It just does not EAT great. You leave unsatisfied... likely hungry... with little more than a good deal less money to show for it. HOT TIP: Definitely go to Torre to look at the cool Tequila tower. Watch it change colors. Then get back in your car and drive to Plaza Azteca to eat. read more

Being in the mood for some Mexican food, decided to try Torre. Been here once before but it's been over 10 years. I believe the restaurant has been remodeled since then. It looked really nice and I just loved the bar area. Very cool. Our waitress, Rylee, was very pleasant, even though it was very busy there. Ordered an App of guacamole and chips to get started. The guac wasn't very flavorful, seemed to be missing some spices or something. For an entrée, I got the Los Cabos tacos which had blue corn-crusted Maui Maui in them. These were really delicious. We love the Paxos line of restaurants, so we decided to try Torre. This one fails. It bewilders me that it belongs to the same Paxos line. When we arrived, the hostess wanted to seat us in an outdoor area with a strong wind blowing through the area. We refused this area and were taken to an upstairs balcony where it was very warm and very dark. Once seated, the waiter (dressed in blue jeans and t-shirt) arrived immediately to take our drink and appetizer order. We had to ask him to come back as we had not even opened the menu. It was a long wait before he returned. The noise was extremely loud, and we were unable to talk at the table. We ordered the chicken enchiladas, fried plantains, and trio fajitas. I decided to try Torre after hearing that the food was really good and it was a cool place to visit. As far as the food goes, it was absolutely delicious! I got the Los Cabos tacos, the Plátanos madras and a side salad. It was all super tasty and very inexpensive. The atmosphere was very pleasant and the music paired really well with the food and aesthetic. Where I was extremely disappointed was in the service. My waitress seem like it was a bother just to be there. I started at the bar but then asked to move since it was really cold by the windows. She took a long time to get my order (I went by myself) yet waited on the 2 other tables that had more than 1 person. I ran out of water half way through my meal and she never offered anything else to drink and when I called her she just ignored me. She seem more interested in whatever drama was going on with other staff members and when had to do her job, she did it with attitude. At the end she practically pushed me out by simply saying "so you're all done right, should I get the check then?" I was going to get a drink after eating but she clearly wasn't up for the task. I work in the service industry I would never treat any customer the way she treated me. The only way I'd go back to Torre is if I take it to go. Waitressing very overwhelmed, I don't think she could handle all her tables . no conversation just the bare minimum interaction. We were there for my friend's birthday. When I walked in. I talked to the hostess. She said that the restaurant offers a free dessert for a birthday and she would let my server know. My reservation also said birthday . Now the temperature was a little over but nothing to send back over, but the complete lack of salt on the steak. Or seasoning. Or anything was just not there. Completely void except the sauce. Which had salt, but not enough to makeup for the steak. And the steak? Was 40 bucks and small. Super small. As if I were waiting for the second half of the steak to show up, small. The sweet potatoes were salted perfectly. And we're pretty good. The star of the dish. The spinach was bland. Nothing to say. Just bland. All in all, maybe the Mexican food itself is better but the roi for the meal was not there for me. Tried Torre for the first time with husband. We loved it. I wouldn't consider the place a super authentic Mexican but more of a Mexican fusion type of place. The chips with roja salsa and calamari was good. I loved the Los Cabos tacos (mahi mahi) and he had the Monterrey (brisket) tacos. They had a blueberry cobbler margarita special. If you are into sweet, it is a must try. I ordered a couple more refills. We ended coming back a second time as a family. I tried the enchilada de mariscos. The guac I got was a generous portion, very fresh and perfectly spicy, and came with a generous helping of house made tortilla chips. May have been my favorite thing here. The chicken enchilada was sooo good I didn't think you could make since a simple dish so flavorful. My significant other got the steak with yucca fries and the yucca fries were perfectly seasoned and crispy. The only thing I thought that was just okay was the guava margarita because it was a bit one dimensional, but I appreciated the heavy pour of tequila lol Ambiance and decor was 10/10 would definitely recommend for date night or a special occasion. Visited the restaurant for the first time while in the area for some shopping together with my wife. Stopped in for lunch with a 3:30 reservation. Got a nice cozy seat along the wall of sugar skulls. Greeted by our waitress who discussed some things off the menu. We had a the piña y coco which was very good. We chose a few appetizers to start. We had the elote corn dip and also the chili con queso. Both, again very tasty selections. Perfect timing between appetizers and entrees. For my entree was the Bistec de res - asked for it medium but it came out rather well done. So that was rather a chewy dish unfortunately for a prime cut of beef at a higher end restaurant . My wife chose the chili relleno. A very heavy cheesy dish but she loved it. We were able to safe some room for a dessert and went with the churros. They were giant , very sweet and delicious served with the Mexican dark chocolate. Service and food overall was very good , just was a bit disappointed with the way the beef was overcooked. This is a very good upscale Mexican restaurant in Allentown, PA. They have a three story sculpture in their atrium with over 200 tequila's (they have that many) on it. Two people in our party got there before the other three and held the table with some margaritas :). The food, for the most part, was excellent! I had the brisket burrito and my wife had the tacos. Both are highly recommended. The others had enchiladas and a Chile relleno. The regular enchiladas were quite good. The Sonoran enchiladas are not recommended. Three of our party tried them. This was apparently a highly anticipated dining spot for someone in our party, so we made sure to have dinner here. It seemed a bit over-hyped, although it was good. I wish I could give individual ratings for things instead of an overall, so I tried to average. Here is my breakdown. Food: 4.5/5. I thought that all of the entrees we ordered was super delicious and had generous portions (5/5). Unless you are expecting the tacos to be more than street tacos...but still tasty. The appetizers/starters were a potential 3.5-4/5. It is always a bummer to me when Mexican restaurants do not have chips and salsa as a free appetizer when you sit down. That being said, we did order them with the Roja salsa, which was tasty and a tad spicy (same salsa that came with our entrees). The chips were very flaky, but just okay. Also ordered the yucca fries, which were good (and the crema with them was a definite 5/5), but not enough for the price. Entrees were 5/5 on taste. Wish you could mix and match the tacos, but you cannot. Ordered the portobello tacos, veggie fajitas, and pulled pork entree. Veggies in the fajitas were deliciously seasoned and toasted and the pulled pork had an amazing flavor. Also the portions were extremely large and both came with five flour tortillas (way too many! Yes, the portions of two of our entrees was very large, but it just seemed like the price of everything made the place feel a bit too pretentious/trying to hard. Been to Torre about 4 times before our latest visit. All those visit were very enjoyable. Food was always nicely prepared and delicious. Service was always fast and friendly and the cocktails were on point. However, they've just updated their menu and there are problems with it. First, they have removed accompaniments from the main entrees. All sides are now an extra $5 - $6. My friend ordered the Carne Asada ($34.50). Wish I took a pic , but I can tell you it was quite disappointing. Not sure what the weight of the piece of skirt steak was supposed to be but it was about a 5" x 1/2" cut. The plate came out with that pieces of steak, a small container of chimichurri sauce, and 5 yucca fries. It was kind of shocking how anemic the plate looked. I had the Bistec de res ($34.50). The ribeye was ok. It was cooked to my preference but was not juicy and tender as a ribeye should be. Also, the Mexican street corn was not good. Everyone tried it and couldn't put their finger on what was off about it but all agreed it wasn't good. My partner had the Enfrijoladas de carne (21.90). Again, the plate came out with 2 enchiladas and a side of the black bean cheese sauce and nothing else. I have never been to a Mexican restaurant where they don't a least give you a side of something to go with your entree. Beans or rice or a salad, something. Now sides for the entrees are completely a al carte. Sorry Torre, but you are not that level of restaurant. On a positive note, the Margaritas were very good. I had the Torre Smoke and it was excellent! Also, the guacamole was delicious! The service was friendly but very slow. We were half way done our dinner before anyone checked in on us. We had 5PM reservations which are very early reservations for us but it was due to friend's time restrictions, but it wasn't the peak dinner time so I don't understand the inattentiveness. For dessert we brought our own bday cake and it was bothersome that there was a $3 charge per person for cake cutting and serving. But the cake was already cut so all the restaurant provided was plates and a serving utensil. It was a friends bday so no one complained except the wait actually, she ranted and raved how stupid the rule was and apologized quite a few times. I generally feel she was embarrassed she had to tell us about the charge and how it couldn't be waived. Sat outside on their tiny patio. Hard to maneuver with other diners out there. Very pleasant waitress and the staff in general were great (hostess, runners, etc). The casa guacamole ($12.15) was blah. It wasn't gross but it wasn't good. There was grande chunks of avocado and the flavor just wasn't there. For $12.15, you can mash the avocado and properly season the dish. For dinner, I had the Cochinita pibil ($21.35) which is "banana leaf-roasted pulled pork, sour orange, and pickled red onions" served with salsa roja, crema, queso fresco, guacamole, and flour tortillas. Now THIS guacamole was great. Perfect texture and flavor. How could this be so superior to the other guacamole? I do not know. I cannot say. I guess things just happen that way. Overall, the cochinita pibil was a great dish. The pork was tender and there was about half of a pig on my plate. The salsa roja had good heat. My mojito was a tad sweet.
