Who doesn't love a good taco!? Am I right? Road tripping through Allentown we didn't want the same old bar fare, nor in the mood for fast food. I was scrolling TikTok for places to eat and we drove past Plaza Azteca. We have one near us so we figured we would give it a shot. Warm chips and salsa to nibble on while reviewing the menu. Fully filled tacos, juicy plump enchiladas and burritos and a smiling happy server. We couldn't ask for anymore. Bathrooms are kept clean but the ladies looks like it needs some maintenance with clumsy doors and half done repairs. Other than that the place was the perfect pit stop to refuel before we headed back to the city. read more

Generally decent Mexican food with many of the unique features that make it enjoyable: guacamole cart that comes to the table, mixed sports bar + sit down vibe, and friendly staff. The vegan options make the menu especially great- the veggie fajitas come with soy meat and plenty of toppings. The dishes came out quick and the prices were reasonable. There were occasional fruit flies in the restaurant that didn't make it quite as clean as I'd like but overall a solid restaurant. read more

I'm visiting Pennsylvania for work this week and decided to return to a Mexican restaurant we've enjoyed before. Mexican food is my go-to, and this place is absolutely top-notch. We walked in and were seated within minutes. The restaurant has plenty of seating options, including tables, bar seating, and booths, making it great for groups or solo diners. Our waiter was quick to take our order, and we were served chips, salsa, and cheese dip shortly after sitting down. I ordered the Birria tacos--and they were incredible. Easily in my top 3 of all time, anywhere. Anytime I'm in the area and craving Mexican food, this place will be my first choice, without a doubt. I'll definitely be back. read more

The food was very bad I will never go back to that place, the prices are too high and the service is not the best thing in the business!

Very solid Mexican restaurant. We stopped because there were a lot of cars out front for 1 PM on a weekday. Service was quick and friendly. Ambience was as expected for a Mexican restaurant. Food was excellent! She had Al Pastor pork tacos and I had Carnitas tacos. We also really appreciated the generous sized portion of taco chips and salsa that came down. read more

Came in and ordered food to go . Then decided to stay and eat . I was seated at the bar . The bar tender totally ignored me . My food was bought out ; wasn't offered a drink , water or anything. No one even came back to make sure I didn't need anything. Food was good but terrible service. read more

Went tonight. Food was bad...ordered Tacos Al Pastor and have ZERO idea of how they managed to even actually make Al Pastor with little to no flavor given that it's a marinated style taco meat, but alas... here we are. Service was god awful. Completely forgot our table-side guac until AFTER meals arrived. The guac guy finally arrived, then wasn't even made table-side. It was made BEHIND us between the two aisles of tables, as opposed to actually anywhere AT our table. While you might think that would be the worst of it, you'd be wrong. Apparently it's location policy to blow whistles at top volume -to the point where it shrieks so loud the entire Resteraunt echoes with the sound while singing "Happy Birthday" to patrons. I live with a panic disorder stemming from PTSD, and was immediately sent into a triggered panic event. I had to leave immediately ,eating only 1/4 of my meal. When my husband returned to pick his parents up from the Resteraunt ( after having to drive me home shaking and in tears), it took over 20 minutes for the waitstaff to bring the check . When a a manager was asked for It took an additional 10 minutes to "find" a manager, who then was flippant about the entire experience. I will not be returning. read more

Came here for my nephew's birthday as his goal was to eat Mexican food. Not knowing anything about this place, I've realized it's a PA-based chain of Mexican restaurants which also happens to span south into Virginia & North Carolina and up north to Connecticut & Massachusetts. Therefore, it's a known name in the state. With that said, for a table of 9, we were seated relatively quickly. The complimentary chips + salsa were really good. However, do request the spicy salsa (habanero?). It's worth the supreme kick and it tastes good when slightly diluting into the regular salsa. We all ordered a potpourri of items. I'll mention them in my comments below: 1) The veggie nachos were pretty damn tasty. They were nice enough to customize it to our needs as well. Was very hearty with the veggies, from broccoli to cauliflower to peppers. 2) We ordered a chimichanga, except made for vegetarians. I wish they would create a separate vegetarian chimichanga on their menu. I'm sure plenty of vegetarians come to eat here. With that said, the serving size was HUGE. 3) I ordered the spinach enchiladas. I was able to finish almost all of the enchiladas. There was a LOT of spinach in there, which is good, but also tough to finish. The bummer is that this could use a combo of black beans + spanish rice. This came with white rice, which I didn't ever think was a great fit with Mexican food. 4) The enchiladas trio I think had a bit too of that cheese sauce. It might be masking the dish, but it was a bit of an overkill. 5) Service was relatively good, even though it seemed like our waitress forgot to provide my other nephew a coke until the main menu hit. With that said, the best part is perhaps the birthday celebrations. Can't go wrong with it. We heard 3 different birthday celebrations in the 1+ hour we were there. All in all, I was originally thinking 3 as the food wasn't earth shattering, but I pushed it up to 4 just for the birthday celebrations. read more

Plaza Azteca - Spinach Enchiladas - Mexican Near Me - Allentown, Pennsylvania

My students and I made a reservation on February 25th for a party of 50. The numbers changed and I called March 21st with the new number: 31. I called again March 27th to let them know we were in our way. I spoke to Josh the first two times, letting him know we had a tight schedule and needed to get the students back to NJ on time... When we got there, there was only one waiter for our area. We waited 90 min to get served and probably about 30 min to pay. Reasons we were given: Josh is only the Assistant Manager and we did not speak to the manager (Norma). She was not aware of the reservation until the day BEFORE so she was not prepared for such a large crowd... (mind you we scheduled it a month ahead of time to ensure speedy service) and she stated Josh is new... yet the staff refused to open another register to speed up the checkout process while they stood there shooting the breeze. They sent me to pay with the waiter and had no regard for such a large party having to wait that long. We finally got Norma to speed up the process and take our payment at the front and the other staff members actually did something instead of looking around refusing to help. This should've been a smoothless transaction and a pleasant experience. I am thankful for all my students and their patience but the unprofessional way the restaurant handled this was uncalled for. Oh, and the inconvenience was not reflected in the form of a discount in any way either. Food was ok... not worth the wait and frustration. read more

Plaza Azteca - Call log - Mexican Near Me - Allentown, Pennsylvania

I've always enjoyed the consistency of Plaza Azteca, for a "chain American Mexican" spot. The Allentown location was just that, as there were week night drink specials, like $6 Paloma's on Mondays, Rum Runners Tuesdays, etc. and one of my personal basic guilty pleasures, the ala carte 3 Beef Hard Tacos, were $5.50, but now it's $9.75! Absolutely no more drink specials, and the rise in price for one of my favorites, means I will skip on coming to this particular Plaza Azteca. I was told there was new management now, so there's that. There is a location on 378 I will check out, perhaps they have specials. If not, then Plaza will no longer get my business, not that it would even matter to them. I'm highly disappointed, as this was one of my regular go to places for a consistent, reasonably priced meal in the middle of the afternoon, but no more. read more

Food and drinks served here were good quality. Texas Margarita was frozen and very smooth. We also tried mango margarita, sangria, and horchata. Housemade chips, salsa and tableside guacamole were very good. Chicken tenders for toddler were really good. Brother enjoys their tamales. Chicken soup was hearty. Fajitas were served sizzling hot and very good. Pollo Patron also very good. Friend enjoyed seafood chimichanga. Azteca Pescadora was another entree we tried. Desserts were good. Service and atmosphere were great. read more

Quick service. Good food and cool ambiance. We were seated immediately even on a busy Saturday night. They get you chips and salsa for the table. The salsa could have been spicier. I got the Mangold drink. It was delicious especially with that Tajin rim. I ordered the chicken chimichanga Texanas. The chicken was seasoned like fajitas and filled with veggies. They top it with a layer of queso. It could have used a little spice but I was content with the plate. The enchilada suizas were good and come with 3. The chicken chunks were a little large but flavored well. The food came out before my drink or second chips basket. Everyone was content and full. The tables are large and the paintings are ethnic. The price was fair! read more

Lots of seating and given unlimited chips with salsa. Food came relatively quick and tasted good. They have a large selection to order on their menu so I'd be interested in going again. Birria tacos: awesome but too oily. Traditionally it's made by dipping the tortilla into fat, but the whole taco was soaked with oil and dripping oil when you picked it up. Nevertheless, it was still delicious and I enjoyed the beef which resembled barbacoa. Service was decent. Most staff spoke some English with the exception of the waiters who were fairly fluent with accents, but this would be a great place to practice Spanish. Atmosphere was nothing special. Pricing was pretty decent for what you get especially since you can fill up on chips if you wanted. Food: 4.5/5 Service: 4/5 Ambience: 3/5 read more

Popped in here while visiting a family member and was pleasantly surprised! We started with delicious margaritas and the tableside guacamole--which is definitely a must. Our table ordered a mix of tacos, enchiladas, and a quesadilla, and everything was excellent. I don't usually leave reviews for chain restaurants, but I found the Yelp suggestions helpful when I was looking for something nearby--so just passing along the favor. Worth a stop if you're in the area! read more

My family and I have been coming here for a few years now. Our food experience was not the same. I had the quesadilla which had very little chicken & my nephew had the nachos supreme which seemed to be half of the normal size. The food seemed to have been rushed when cooked and prepared. My nephew threw up 2 times after he ate which led him to having food poisoning :( Due to our experience we will not be going back there:( read more

Plaza Azteca - Piece of ish - Mexican Near Me - Allentown, Pennsylvania

There are 2 Plaza Aztecas in the Lehigh Valley. We've tried both. This is the one to go to (Lehigh St Allentown). We've tried the Bethlehem P.A. several times because it's closer to us but we give up. The drinks are meh and the food is just ok. This is compared to the P.A. in Allentown which has a very good house margarita and flavorful dishes with good portions. We expected the 2 locations to be about the same but it's not even close. Go to Allentown. The salsa is better too. read more

Plaza Azteca takes me back to my days of playing winter ball in the old Mexican Pro Leagues! I would smash seven homers a game, drive home 17 runs, steal 6 bases, and pitch a perfect game every night. Oh the good ol' days. I was the slug warmer. The homer charmer. The crowd pleaser. The eyebrow tweezer. We'd play quadruple headers every day, Monday through Saturday, non stop ball on the old fields. They'd normally use crop fields to create these stadiums, generally 500 feet from home plate to dead center field, and 125 foot short porches in left, and 275 to right field. Oh I smacked that ball for miles back in the old days. Sundays were the only days we were allowed to eat, and we'd all kick the doors down at the local establishments and fill up on all of the Mexican food that we could. You name it. Enchilada. Fajita. Fried rice. Beans. Corn. Sweet tea. Spicy tamale. Green huts. Charlotte diamonds. The best food out there. It's been years since I've tasted that taste. So spicy and natural, as if plucked fresh from its natives lands. I had the fried rice with queso, and topped high with chicken, shrimp, and vegetables. Delicioso! I gobbled it up all in seven bites. Just like the seven slugfests I would slam in the good ol' days. Oh how I wish I could return to the 50's. The 1850's that is. When I could smash dingers and devour dinners in the old southern leagues of ball. Thank you, Plaza Azteca, for allowing me to taste my past. NPSwizzle read more

Great service. Very attentive. Hispanic ambiance with Spanish background music. Food was very tasty (Carne asada tacos) and good chips & salsa with free refills of each. Large sitting area so no wait time even for large groups coming in. read more

Service was great, friendly staff and the food came at a decent time. I hate to do what is coming next, but the food was just so so. I like the location, plenty of room and seating, not cramp, but the food was just okay. Not flavorful, it is a bit on the bland side. You definitely would not be coming here for authentic Mexican food. The drinks were a bit underwhelming as well, too sour and too sweet for my liking. It was not strong either.
